Only spent one night here on this trip. Will definitely come back for a longer stay. We were in space 213 - which had electric and water. The site backed up to the lake. OTA was limited, and we could not get any DISH channels due to trees (other sites were able to). ATT worked fine, but no Sprint. Staff at station were super helpful and there were plenty of hikes available. We camped at Martin Dies JR. State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

We have been here three times in our Mini Winnie travel trailer. November 2015 in number 201, February 2017 in number 202 and then March 2018 in number 312. They were are nice spots. 312 was especially nice since it was a pull-through. We have always had a nice experience at Martin Dies. We lived in the area (Spurger) and I have friends in Jasper so we also visit them. The rangers have always been very nice and it is a wonderful place to just sit back and chill. We camped at Martin Dies JR. State Park in a Travel Trailer.

If you like to go out to eat, there is the Cedar Tree in Jasper. It is a buffet and very good.

Beautiful park and campgrounds. A lot of roads to bike on and 3 long trails to hike. Sites are shaded, some on Gum Slough, and the reservoir. The park is well maintained . The bath house in our loop (Hen House Ridge) was pretty bad. Other than that a nice park. We camped at Martin Dies JR. State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Lot of road way to bike slight elevation changes, but manageable. Trails to hike. Boating and fishing in the slough is good. Only downside is the bath house. We would come back, though. Can't beat the price/value.

Overall Rating:

We stayed in the Hen House Ridge unit on site #6. As another reviewer stated this site has water access albeit through a bit of mud. It is also on the far side of the better paddling trail. There is 20 minutes of open water to get to those lovely trails. As we were there for a week we had time to choose our crossing. The washrooms are spotless just like the rest of the park. The facilities are old , but everything works and well. This is a well-loved and well cared-for facility. The showers were grand and appreciated. We camped here with a 23' travel trailer and pick up. the roads are narrow. If you have a bigger rig the other side of the campground would be preferable. We camped at Martin Dies JR. State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

Beautiful, large, shady state park with great walks and trails. Stayed in 25 foot motorhome with no toad so plenty of room though suspect larger rigs with toads or tow vehicles might find some spaces a tad small. Most sites (at least in the 30-amp section--Hen House Ridge) were quite roomy and private. Sites in this section were all pull-through. Very good Verizon signal and plenty of TV channels via OTA antenna. Bath house clean but aged, with shower area lacking privacy. Overall, a really nice park. I definitely hope to return. We camped at Martin Dies JR. State Park in a Motorhome.

Price was $16/night plus $4/person if no TX state park pass. Very reasonable, even without the pass.

Martin Dies Jr State Park is in south-east Texas near Jasper, TX. The park is on Steinhagen Reservoir. Many sites have lake views and access. Good hiking trails. We were in site 84 (50A electric and water) in the Hen House Ridge Unit on the south side of Hwy 190. Nice park. We've been here before and will return. We camped at Martin Dies JR. We parked our 31' 5th wheel in site 6 of Hen House. It was very quiet during the week, and we enjoyed a nice view of the slough. We were surrounded by tall pines and oaks.

The site gave us easy access to the slough, and we had no problems putting in or taking out our kayaks from the site.

Our only complaint would be that the restrooms, while clean, were old and in need of some attention. The water was hot, though.

Wifi is available at the camp office. We were getting around 20mbps through our Verizon LTE connections from the site. We camped at Martin Dies JR. State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

East Texas is beautiful and we saw a deer a few times. Park was flooded from rains so many trails were closed. Park sites are monolithic poured tables and benches of concrete, a bit uncomfortable. Site paving is old asphalt and are mostly flat but have spots of vegetative growth on them. Some sites are not really laid out for RV's with tables and fire rings on the opposite side from the door. We camped at Martin Dies JR. State Park in a Tent Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Canoe and kayak rentals. Also had nature classes and activities going on. Construction of a new bridge across the lake requires you to sit and wait your turn as there is only one lane for both directions of traffic.

Nice state park. Very clean, freshly mowed, stayed at Hen House Ridge because other side is too overgrown and RV would have been hitting low branches. Wifi only at Ranger Station. Come on TPWD dept get with the program and put wifi around the park! We camped at Martin Dies JR. State Park in a Motorhome.

Host in site 67 is VERY NOISY! Otherwise would have rated this park much higher! With a more considerate host this park would be a wonderful, quiet place to stay. Showers are clean, but have torn, crummy curtains, if any at all. Rangers are polite and helpful, sites are far enough apart to be private. But again, noisy host (large voices and radio that can be heard 4 and 5 sites away!). We camped at Martin Dies JR. State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Only thing that can improve this park is reservations by site number (which a pilot program is in place at Lake Livingston State Park) and sewer hook ups. We love this park. Hiking trails are always great and sites are beautiful and spacious. The kids love renting a canoe and cruising the lake. We also enjoy fishing from the piers for perch and bird watching. This is a great park. We will camp here again. We camped at Martin Dies JR. State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Spring break week with our 1,2,4 year olds. Clean, well maintained park. Several piers to fish from. Boat ramp with small floating dock. Playground had swings only. Everybody seems to kayak/canoe, but we didn't with our little ones. Lake entry accessible from most lakefront sites. Spacious level sites. Friendly staff. We will definitely go back and kayak/canoe when the kids get bigger. Guided kayak tour available on a schedule. We camped at Martin Dies JR. State Park in a Fifth Wheel.
