This is a nice park, large with very spacious sites and I would say an excellent place for those within an easy drive to spend a weekend. We were disappointed because we'd scheduled 2 weeks at a time when we had many storms. While that is part of the way things are, the campground became very wet and the main access road was closed due to flooding. Twice. There are 3 separate loops and a small primitive area. The showers in the loop you enter before the flooded area were the only decent ones. The others, while clean had terrible shower heads with so much blockage they did not spray well, if at all. The toilet seats are stainless steel. The far loop had a lot of standing water while we were there and after the storms several sites were completely underwater. Only a few sites are level, most have quite a slant and some have terribly pocked surfaces. We had to change our original site (12) because it was impossible to level and keep our wheels on the ground. There is a mixture of 30 and 50 amp sites. We camped at Sandy Creek COE in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

If there has been significant rainfall call ahead as the access road will be blocked just before the gate. There is a back way that is largely unpaved but decent although also with flooding that would not be OK for a car or small truck. It's a 45 min drive to Big Thicket National Preserve which is worth visiting and 25 min to Heritage Village in Woodville. Decent AT&T reception

Our price reflects the 50% senior discount. We pulled in here late with just enough time to get set up before dark. Not sure of our site number, but we were way in the back, backed up to the lake in the woods. Sites are well spaced and very large. We did have to level side to side. Roads in the park are paved, as are the sites. We had a covered picnic table and fire ring. The road in was long and windy, but that is what you get if you want to be away from it all. ATT cell service was great. Bathrooms were clean. We camped at Sandy Creek COE in a Travel Trailer.

Pretty COE park located on Lake B.A Steinhagen. Gate attendants are helpful and polite. Pretty COE park on the BA Steinhagen lake. We didn't see much ACE Staff, but there are gate attendants who are very helpful and polite. Park is kept clean. Sites off the main loop are well spaced and private. Sites in the furthest loop are typically spaced. We stayed here for a week twice in a month period. The first week was quiet and our space was great, overlooking the lake. The second visit, our space was great, but we kept having a power issue so moved to another in the main loop because they didn't know when they could get someone out to check it. New site was great. After 2 days a large group came in with about 90 people mostly kids spread over 3 or 4 sites nearby. There was no peace and quiet after that so we left early. The water pressure is good, electric (at our second site) was steady. If they would enforce the occupancy rules of 8 people per site, this would be one of the best Corp parks out there. We camped at Sandy Creek COE in a Motorhome.

We spent three nights at Sandy Creek COE Park in our 40' fifth wheel. We had a very long concrete pull-through site with plenty of room for our rig, our tow vehicle and our car. Our site had a lovely view of B. A. Steinhagen Lake. Although the site lacked a sewer hookup, the 2-rig dump station was nearby and not too difficult to access with our big rig. The campground is about 12 miles from Jasper, TX so you'll want to do your grocery shopping before arriving. We are big fans of COE parks and we would rate this as the best we've visited. We would definitely return again. We camped at Sandy Creek COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Our site was on the lake shore. Huge, beautiful trees, herons, egrets, deer and an occasional squirrel. The park is quiet and clean. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Roads are very good and you will have no trouble getting to your site. We camped at Sandy Creek COE in a Motorhome.

This is a great park to just relax. There are several waterfront sites and most everyone is level. Lots of shady sites. There are no swimming areas here as this is mostly a fishing lake. This is not an area with a lot of activities around. While we were her it was mostly old folks like us. We camped at Sandy Creek COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

The sites were level and spacious with plenty of trees and grass. Our spot had covered picnic table, fire ring and a grill. Many sites are waterfront, and amenable to parking your chair and fishing. The presence of alligators dims any chance of swimming. There is not a designated swimming area in this park, but there is a small area in the neighboring park, Martin Dies Jr. State Park. Again, it was swim at your own risk. There are no options for pool swimming for kids in these parks or in nearby Jasper, unless you want to pay a fee at one of the hotels. Overall, this is a site for avid fishers and general relaxation. Not much to keep young kids occupied unless you're towing a boat with you. We camped at Sandy Creek COE in a Travel Trailer.

We really enjoyed our stay at this park. The sites are very level and most of them are spacious. We stayed in site#34, which lies (with site#32) under a beautiful live oak tree. A little bit of a problem getting into the site without scratching the side of our RV completely, but being a holiday weekend, this was the last available site in the place. Loved the fact that this campground has covered picnic tables, we were able to extend our awning over the covering and enjoy the extra shade. We were disappointed in the maintenance of the grass, it was quite high, even around most of the campfire rings. There are roads to bicycle on, and there is a hiking/biking trail from Sandy Creek to Martin Dies State Park nearby. The kids enjoyed the playground that was mostly shaded. There are plenty of areas to fish, we saw a few alligators, and enjoyed the hundreds of stars visible late at night. Didn't have issues with Wi-Fi inside the park, but on the roads coming into the park, we lost signal. Staff was friendly and helpful. We will definitely be camping here again. We camped at Sandy Creek COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

We came into the park via FM777 & Rt 155 as mentioned by a previous reviewer, but found Rt 156 was not any worse than Rt 155 and seemed a shorter distance back to Hwy 190.

We enjoy COE parks for the nature and beauty. We were not disappointed in this park. There are essentially 2 areas; one through the gate and one before you enter. Unfortunately, the dump station was half a mile inside the gate...so would be quite a distance for a totie!! We spent 2 nights and enjoyed the views, peace and quiet. We camped at Sandy Creek COE in a Travel Trailer.

This is a nice campground with level spacious sites. Many sites are waterfront with great views. The campground roads are good areas for dog walking.bike riding, and there is lots of open areas for kids to play. The restrooms were good. The showers were hot and water pressure was good. We stayed during spring break and, even though the campground was full, it did not feel crowded. We will definitely camp here again. We camped at Sandy Creek COE in a Travel Trailer.

Very nice park, though the signage and road conditions make you wonder if you are on the correct route. Paved roads and concrete pads within park. Sites are well spaced. Cellular voice and data coverage were so-so. Lake was drained when we were there. Don't know if it was by plan, or drought. Great place to stop for a night, or longer if in the area. Typically a nice COE park except for the restrooms which were not up to COE standards as far as we were concerned. We stayed in site #12. Quiet, paved streets and sites. When coming in take Rt 777 to Rt. 155 to park rather than Rt 156. Satellite is iffy on many sites because of trees. Would stay here again. We camped at Sandy Creek COE in a Motorhome.
