What a beautiful lake! We stayed at site E120 which is a pull-through and is like a grassy knoll island. I camped here as a kid and had fond memories but was somewhat disappointed. We pulled in and hooked up after dark on Friday. When we woke on Saturday I could not wait to open the door and see the lake but when I did all I could see was trucks, boats and boat trailers parked on our site surrounding our camper! Also we had one dead tree and one live tree. Thank god it was cloudy all weekend! Once we got past that the lake took over and we were in heaven! Then it was on to the showers for a clean up! The restrooms were somewhat clean and the hot water was hot the only issue was the men's shower just slowly dribbled but the women's was perfect! A word of caution the electrical hook ups were in disrepair and when I unplugged my plug was burnt but that is my fault as I did not have a surge protector. We camped at Buckhorn Creek COE in a Travel Trailer.

Don't let the name fool you, Buckhorn Creek Park is right on Lake O' the Pines, a rather vast body of water. There may have been a creek on the property, but the Lake is the view you see from all over this great Corps of Engineer's park. The grounds are manicured and clean. All of the sites and roads are asphalt and accommodate big rigs easily. Sites are extra-long and equipped with a concrete patio framed with gravel and a fire pit. E121 is fairly level. Utilities are well maintained and conveniently located on the site. This park offers 30/50 amp and water; no full-hook ups, but the park has a double-sided dump station. Other amenities are a boat ramp, playground, picnic area, hiking trails, swim beach, fishing dock, and group pavilions. As is the case at many parks located on lakes, it was a bit buggy; but you can't beat the view and easy water access. The park hosts were friendly and helpful, even after a big storm went through the park and knocked out all of the electricity. Not to worry, crews were on top of the problem and power was restored within 2 hours. We connected to our satellite and had both Verizon and AT&T coverage. We were only able to stay one night this time, but would definitely come back and stay again. We camped at Buckhorn Creek COE in a Fifth Wheel.

What a beautiful park! We got a site that looked right onto the lake, one row back, which was perfect. Each site was very large with lots of space in between sites. Lots of trees for shade too. The sunsets were spectacular! It was a great location to visit Caddo Lake and other areas in the Piney Woods of Texas. We didn't want to leave. We camped at Buckhorn Creek COE in a Motorhome.

We stayed here for 1 night heading to our destination and then 3 nights on the way home because we love this area. This is, in our opinion, the best of the 4 COE campgrounds on Lake of the Pines. We had a full hookup site right on the tip of the point with excellent views of the lake. The sites are arranged so that you have clear views out the sides even though neighbors aren't too far away. We camped at Buckhorn Creek COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Nice ACE park sitting on Lake O The Pines. Sites are fairly spacious if you stay away from the water sites otherwise they are a little close. They have a couple of the "double up" party sites. Electric is steady, water pressure good. They have a tent area and a boat launch. There is a first-come-first-serve area away from the water, but it seems to be inhabited by long termers. Someone told us the 3 campers in there were workers, but they seemed to have other jobs and we never saw them working in the park. Gate attendants were knowedgable and friendly. Watch the trees however, they are not well maintained and we saw several large limbs come down during and after a storm. You pay a few dollars extra a night if your site has a tent pad. We might stay here again if in the area. We camped at Buckhorn Creek COE in a Motorhome.

Jefferson is a nice little town, with junk/antique stores and a couple of nice restaurants. Try the Jefferson general store for fun, lots to see, its fun. Great little ice cream counter in City Drug Store.

Arrival: A little bit tough picking just the right turn with so many different USACE spots. Otherwise, not bad. The gate has swing arms and appears to be manned 24/7... no idea why.

Roads: Texas FM Roads. Most are well maintained regardless the approach.

Sites: The signs say "Rxx-Rxx" but the sites are "Exx-Exx". Very confusing. Three inbound lanes with one outbound. Turn-around circle completely unmarked. Horrible. Most of the sites have level concrete pads - nice...but they all have had considerable erosion making them all pedestals -- sharp drop-offs. Got in and out OK, but there are tons of rubber marks from those that didn't.

Restrooms: FAIL! Dirty. Leaking fixtures. Bugs everywhere.... even the toilet seat.

Not all pull-thru's identified on the website are. Great for those that know the park. Total turn-off for those new to the park.

Cost: $18 (1/2 off with Access Pass) for electric and water.

Internet: No Wi-Fi. Cell is awesome for AT&T. Otherwise, not so much. Plenty of sky for satellite.

Other: Staff could care less. Didn't even give us a map. Ants are everywhere. Covered our trailer with 5 trails within 3 hours of arrival. One dumpster that overfills on weekends. Nothing else. Don't expect to see a trash can for puppy poop on your walk. We will never stay there again. We camped at Buckhorn Creek COE in a Travel Trailer.

This is a pretty typical COE park with nice-sized sites. My shower experience in the ladies' restroom was fine, i.e., good water pressure and temperature of the shower. However, my husband's experience in the men's room was terrible. The shower head was missing so the water output was a stream straight down. And with only one shower stall in each restroom, that made the experience pretty tough. We would most likely stay here again if in the area but shower in our rig. We camped at Buckhorn Creek COE in a Motorhome.

Love this park. Spacious sites. Quiet. No problems at all. Beware of rising water. Some sites can be under water that are close to the lake. Park is well maintained. Roads are great and cause no issues. Lights out and people are relatively quiet. We camped at Buckhorn Creek COE in a Travel Trailer.

Unfortunately, due to the drought in the area the "grassy areas" are tinder dry and burning ban in effect. Our site is fantastic, looking out at the sunset over the lake. Sites are on a bluff perhaps 30 ft above the lake level. Nice paved parking with concrete patio with aluminum picnic table, fire ring, and lantern post. Historic Jefferson is just 9 miles away. Take in the museum to get a feel for the history of the town. Walk down to the park near the bayou turn around. If you like antiques, you would be in heaven in this town.

Nice level sight, long enough for our coach and toad. Very friend woman working in the office, we had to leave a day earlier than we paid for, she tried to give us our money back but we refused it. Roads were wide and easy to navigate. The roads to the park were also very good. We would stay here again if we were in the area. And the nearby town of Jefferson is worth a visit. The primary focus of this park is boating and fishing; we do neither but still enjoyed our stay. We are 55 feet when hitched but with the trailer pushed far back into the site we had room for both the truck and the jeep. It is a blind side back-in with a drop off next to the pavement at the entrance to the site but no other obstacles. With no leaves on the trees we had a beautiful view of the lake and the site is high enough that you look over the other rigs. Sites closer to the lake are more tightly spaced but still very nice. We camped at Buckhorn Creek COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Beautiful water views from most sites - friendly staff - sites nicely spaced and a great value with a Senior Park Pass. There are no sewer hookups. To keep our gray water tank from filling up, I used the showers. Night time temperatures were around freezing. The closing mechanism on door to men's restroom was broken so once inside there was no way to keep the cold air out. There was an overhead heater that did not work. No hand dryer or paper towels. This place needs some basic maintenance. We camped at Buckhorn Creek COE in a Travel Trailer.

Good roads, really nice camp site E139 with deck overlooking the lake. Has a picnic table, fire ring. Site is back-in and was adequate for our 35' fifth wheel. Was able to leave the truck hooked up, barely out of the road. Back door was pretty much unusable because it's off the paved deck area on pretty steep hill. All in all, another great COE park. Rate includes Senior Pass discount. We camped at Buckhorn Creek COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Sites: Mostly back ins. Decent amount of space between sights. Sites along the river have a large grassy area. Pets: Welcome, plenty of places to walk them. Wifi: none. Verizon internet: Very good Sprint internet: No signal Verizon phone: Very Good AT&T phone: Good Book exchange: Mail delivery: No. Area/Town/Sights: A little convenience store and propane about 4 miles away. Town of Jefferson is about 14 miles away. This town is well worth the drive. Lots of history, some good casual restaurants, and antiques. Other notes: This is the cleanest fire pit we've encountered! And we are loaded with firewood! Lots of fishing for crappie here. So there are lots of smelly dead things for our dogs to find. We camped at Buckhorn Creek COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Very nice place to stay. The first site I had the power box didn't work. I asked to move across the road since I figured it would take a bit to fix. I wouldn't have moved if I had realized that he came out to fix it in 30 minutes all done. Great Hosts and response! Bathroom/shower is a bit aged, but works and water was nice and hot. The shadier spots are on the outside loops of the place. We camped at Buckhorn Creek COE in a Motorhome.
