Overall a nice state park with widely spaced pads and lots of trees between to provide some privacy. We were there on a rainy weekend and the campsite area was about half full. All the sites had a nice picnic table that was either covered or under shade. However many of these tables were on the wrong side of the trailer to be convenient. One of the two bathrooms was recently renovated. Most of the sites I would consider to not be deep enough for really big rigs but ours worked for us. WiFi and cell worked fine near the park office but practically non existent in the campsites. Good tv reception from Austin and SA stations. We camped at Pedernales Falls State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Nice park in a good area close to Johnson City, with Fredricksburg, Austin and San Antonio not more than about an hour away. Campground is well laid out and staff are friendly and helpful, while the Park is VERY busy during the day with hikers and picnickers, the nights are quiet and peaceful. Even though it is quite dry in Texas at present, the Falls were still a good sight and worth the walk. We camped at Pedernales Falls State Park in a Motorhome.

Lots to see and do from here - spent a fascinating morning at the Pacific War and Admiral Nimitz Museums in nearby Fredrickburg, took a day trip to San Antonio and the Alamo Plaza.

We have a very nice site. Stayed on a weekend, and the place was packed, but it wasn't noisy. Awesome hiking trails, and you can swim in the river. We camped at Pedernales Falls State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Groceries about 10 miles away. Austin is about an hour away. Nice location for sightseeing, but plenty to do in the park as well. Had fun just swimming in the river.

Site 45 had a pad just long enough for our travel trailer. We have a '12 Ram 3500 dually that we had to park sideways and were told it MUST be on the asphalt. No extra room for any other vehicles.

The picnic table was a little over 60 feet away. Very inconvenient. A LOT OF STICKERS!!!! Watch your little ones and dogs. Beautiful park, sites are relatively small for campers and vehicles.

Enjoyed the park. We camped at Pedernales Falls State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Park personnel were friendly and efficient. Our site, though somewhat small, was adequate for our 5th wheel and was clean and orderly. Deer amble around the park in the evenings and early mornings. They are shy but not frightened.

If you want to see, swim in, or fish in the river, you will have a pretty good hike ahead of you. Parking areas are quite a distance from the river, and trails are mostly up-and-down hill. We camped at Pedernales Falls State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

The 9-mile two lane road from Highway 281 to the park road is under construction for seven or so miles. The road narrows to one lane, at which point you have to wait for an escort vehicle to guide you along the one-lane road. There's no avoiding this, just grin and bear it.

I gave this a 9 because the park doesn't have full hookups. Other than that it is a great place to come. The sites are large and for the most part level. There are tons of great hiking spots and places to explore. I think we hit 7 or 8 geocaches while we were there. Lots of things to do somewhat close by - Fredericksburg, Johnson City, LBJ Ranch and so on. We camped at Pedernales Falls State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We camped in site 57 (water and 30A electric) at Pedernales Falls State Park. Many sites can accommodate large RV's, but a few are too small. Beautiful park. Great hiking and swimming. Scenic views. Park staff and hosts were great. Will definitely return. We camped at Pedernales Falls State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This Texas state park is a well maintained park with clean restrooms/showers, friendly staff, and excellent hiking trails and scenery. It only offers a max of 30 amp electrical service and water - No sewer connections. This is a park we always wanted to visit, yet had not previously since it was not known as big rig friendly, yet I called and was told YES they could accommodate our 40' motorhome. There are about a half dozen sites deep enough to accommodate big rigs. We camped at Pedernales Falls State Park in a Motorhome.

We picked this park to visit the LBJ National and State parks. The park is in a very hilly part of Hill Country and is remote, about 8 miles to some limited services in Johnson City. Campground is about 30 miles from Austin. All sites in the water/electric camping area are paved. The park was full over Easter weekend, but on Sunday many cleared out. Fee does not include the daily per-person $5 entrance fee which adds up quickly. A Texas park pass waives those charges and pays back quickly with discounts. All sites were back-in, many were not level, but subject to correction. The area of the falls were popular with day users on a sunny afternoon. We would stay again. We camped at Pedernales Falls State Park in a Motorhome.

This is an older park with approximately 60 trailer sites. The sites aren't quite level, and are narrow - you can fit in a travel trailer with slide outs, but it's a squeeze. The park itself is beautiful, in the rolling Texas hill country. The Pedernales River cuts over uplifted limestone beds, creating 'falls'. I've yet to visit then the river was flowing fast enough to see it, though. There is an excellent bird blind near the falls, and a nice swimming section below them. We camped at Pedernales Falls State Park in a Travel Trailer.

What a wonderful St Park. Agree with previous raters that spaces are a bit short, narrow, need leveling (some VERY short, narrow and unlevel) and some tables and fire rings are in strange places (on opposite side from RV door), but the spaces are separated by trees and distance. The hiking is excellent, esp down to and along the river. The falls are spectacular. There are two bird watching blinds staffed by volunteers--do NOT miss this! There is a wonderful winery (Texas Hills) and in town the Silver K restaurant is wonderful. Since it's close to Austin and San Antonio, I suspect it gets crowed at times, but we can't wait to return all year round, but esp during the summer to use the river's picturesque swimming area. We camped at Pedernales Falls State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Quiet state park. Sites are short and not built for RVs. The table and fire ring are on the back side of RVs. 90% of the sites are very shady and private feeling. The park has nice trails and two bath facilities. We camped at Pedernales Falls State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This park is nice. As far as big rig access, yes it can be accessed in a big rig but parking is a different situation. We supposedly had one of the larger sites and with our 38 ft MH I had to park the toad across the front. Most of the spaces would be limited to 28 ft. Good birding location and nice view of the Pedernales river. We camped at Pedernales Falls State Park in a Motorhome.

Very nice and primitive CG. Very well shaded and there are spaces that are spread out and some together if needed. The falls are very peaceful listening to and not for the weary to get down to. Lots of hiking and biking trails. We had a great time during spring break even with CG full. Its a very big park - 5000+ acres. We camped at Pedernales Falls State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

This is a very old, very primitive campground. The site pads are short (we have a 27" travel trailer and a standard truck) and were just barely to fit. Picnic tables are at each site but are not conveniently situated - 25 or more feet away. The pads were set up where everything is off to the opposite side of where most people normally have their trailer doors. We couldn't open our awning. The park was not mowed but with all the recent flooding in Texas, maybe they were just behind. It was too primitive for us. We found that this campground was way too much in the boonies. Our vacation involved sight-seeing in the Hill Country and everything was a drive - just to get out of the park and on the road. If you want to spend time at the campground and nothing more, it is nice for that, but not to get in and out of regularly. We camped at Pedernales Falls State Park in a Travel Trailer.
