Phoning for a reservation is dreadful! Besides phoning three days in a row I sent a detailed email requesting a return call. Never happened! Upon arriving without a reservation I inquired about the outdated answering machine message and the full message response. I was told there are only a couple working and they don't have time for phones. Other than that the park is well laid out, PLENTY OF SPACE IN THE LARGE SITES, and the employees are very helpful. Great location, good prices and clean!!! Certainly will stay there again in in the area! We camped at Maverick Ranch RV Park at Lajitas Resort in a Motorhome.

We really enjoyed our stay at this park! Wifi was pretty ok. The location was decent. We definitely spent a ton of time driving to the national park, but it was really close to the state park. It is about 15 min from Terlingua Ghost town which is a must see while visiting Big Bend (go to Starlight cafe)! Everyone was so nice in the park and our kids, ages 9 and 10, made some friends and loved the campground. It was quiet and the stars at night were fantastic. We hiked the Santa Elena, did the Chisos Mtn hike, bathed in the hot springs and did the canyon hike in the state park. We saw a ton of road runners, javelinas, giant lizards and a pack of mountain goats! Maverick RV resort was perfect for us. We camped at Maverick Ranch RV Park at Lajitas Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

First, the good. For ambiance, I give this park a "10". It is in a beautiful setting, well-kept even though the trees and grass are sparse; this is, after all, a severe desert area. They are a "dark nights" park, asking that you turn off outside lighting at 9 p.m. I don't think I've seen that many stars in 50 years! There is a LOT of open space between paired sites. My husband was concerned about being near some dumpsters, but theirs have plastic tops so there is no banging noise at all. There are two dog-walking areas with poop-bag dispensers. AT&T cell service good. If you don't want to boondock in the national park, this is really the nicest place nearby. Now for the not-so-good. #1: As another reviewer mentioned, it is impossible to reach them by phone and they don't reply to messages. I was very close to changing our entire itinerary until I was able to get a confirmed reservation through RoverPass. #2: This park assigns specific spaces at reservation time, so if you want to stay longer the only option is to move. I've only encountered this kind of inflexibility at one other park and it really annoys me. If you have a space for me to move to, then just put the incoming rig there - it's not rocket science! #3 : A surge protector is HIGHLY recommended for this park; ours tripped almost every night. If we hadn't had one, our DVR would probably be fried. #4: wifi was pathetic, even by RV park standards. We camped at Maverick Ranch RV Park at Lajitas Resort in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Walk across the street for breakfast at the golf resort. Go ziplining, the operator is also at the golf resort. Walk or bike just up the road to visit Clay Henry, the goat-mayor of Lajitas!

We never could contact them by phone to make a reservation; no one ever answered or called back. I finally called the resort hotel front desk and they passed a note to the RV park side to call me, and they did. This is a nice park from which to explore the area, but compared to staying at Study Butte, you'll add 40 minutes to a round trip to Big Bend. The streets are wide, the sites are wide, and there's a concrete patio and table at each. Wifi was good and there is Verizon 3G. The resort next door is beautiful, the restaurant is elegant, and there are lot's of activities; just be prepared to open your wallet. The RV park pool was open in March. IMO, this is the best RV park in the Lajitas/Study Butte area. We camped at Maverick Ranch RV Park at Lajitas Resort in a Motorhome.

If you want a full hookup park in this area, this park is the better of the two available. It's an okay park, and if I visited the National Park again I would not hesitate to stay here again. I think that the price is a little high, but it is a supply and demand issue. While not in the National Park, this park is close enough to be a good base camp for exploring Big Bend. We camped at Maverick Ranch RV Park at Lajitas Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Nice but not exactly a resort. Probably the nicest park in the area but quite basic. Very difficult to make a phone reservation. Only received voicemail with promise of a call back within 48 hours. Adjacent golf course very nice. Pricey but discounted if you stay at RV Park. We camped at Maverick Ranch RV Park at Lajitas Resort in a Motorhome.

If you decide to stay here, I suggest that use the directions on their web site. Our GPS wanted to take us off of FM170 and up some dirt road. Also, if you like fresh produce, stock up, as we needed find any in the stores we visited. We stayed here so we could visit Big Bend National Park. When we checked in, they gave us cards we could use at the resort, to charge items to our site. We had a pull thru and found that the sites were alternating facing east and west, with 2 sites sharing a pedestal. So, you are really close to the neighbor facing the opposite direction, but quite a bit of room between the neighbor facing the same direction. We found that the Wi-Fi was spotty and didn't work well in the mornings. Also, AT&T cell service was spotty, but we could usually get a data connection, to set up a hot spot. Each site we saw had a picnic table and a fire ring. We camped at Maverick Ranch RV Park at Lajitas Resort in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Go to the border crossing in Big Bend National Park, where you can pay $5 for a round trip, by row boat and burro, to Boquillas Del Carmen. Also, if you have jeep or a high clearance 4x4 explore some of the unimproved roads that take you into the interior of the park. Visit the hot springs. Go to the visitor's center by the Chisos Mountain Lodge, were you can find the latest information on black bear and mountain lion activity.

Nice park..our site was not vacated when we arrived and staff could not get any info as to when we could set up...so had to move until our site became available. Trash was overflowing, literally. Great restaurant at resort! We camped at Maverick Ranch RV Park at Lajitas Resort in a Travel Trailer.

We got recommendations for Lajitas RV Park from two people we met on our journey, and since we'd never been to the Big Bend region we headed that direction. We weren't disappointed. Situated right between Big Bend National Park and Big Bend Ranch State Park, there's a ton of stuff to do if you appreciate the outdoors. If you know what to look for you can find dinosaur bones and evidence of former residents - but don't move anything in the NP! BBNP has a nice, new (since Jan. 2017) display on dinosaurs, well worth seeing. We were able to unload our motorcycles and rode into BBNP on 2 different days after scouting it out in the truck first. We also rode north into the state park, stopped at an old fort, and hiked Closed Canyon - amazing! Word of warning, the drinks are outrageously priced at the Lajitas resort, cheaper in Terlingua at the Starlight Theatre - which is a must-see. We thought the food there was terrific, and try the chili, at least with the chips. Yum! The food at Candelilla (part of the Lajitas resort) was good, but kind of pricey. They're out in the middle of nowhere, so it's kind of understandable, just be aware. We walked across the street and up the small hill to the restaurant and bar (same food and prices in each), and because they're a "night sky community", the stars were breathtaking. You could see the Milky Way. The pool wasn't heated, and in February it's a bit chilly. Place needs some work, but the bathrooms were spotless and private. Four in the ladies section each with a door and containing the toilet, sink, and shower, along with a row of sinks along the other wall. There was also another set of toilets in that building so they were available even if the showers were being cleaned. Nice laundry room with an ironing board and iron for your use. We hope to be back next year to hook up with some new friends we made there! We had NO internet at our trailer, slow in the rec hall, but for big rigs this park might be your only option. We camped at Maverick Ranch RV Park at Lajitas Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Terlingua's Starlight Theatre, kitschy and fun, with good live entertainment and decent prices on drinks and food. If you don't want to drive, you can walk across to Candelilla and the saloon, but be prepared to pay more than $10 for margaritas that aren't fantastic. The food was good, try the pulled pork tacos.

This park is really special. It's a long drive down there with nothing else around but that's the entire point, to get away from everything. Big Bend is amazing, and not crowded. At least not in January it wasn't. The campground itself had everything you could want right onsite. Laundry, restaurants, a bar, various shops, etc. The activities through the resort are expensive but a lot of fun. They have horseback riding, zip lines, shooting, and the golf course was out of this world. You have to at least play 9 holes even if you hate golf. The drive through the course on the golf cart was an experience itself with the hills and never ending views. If you're into mountain biking you're in heaven here. There's a bunch of trails behind the visitor center 2 miles from the campground. 1 of my favorite things here was the Contrabando movie set so check that out if you want a great place to have a picnic and bask in the beauty of the Rio Grande river. Site accessibility (Roads in are good but hilly. Sites are easy to navigate) - 5 Campground location (Perfect location to see Big Bend state and National parks. Views from the sites were awesome) - 5 Nearby amenities (Local general store is overpriced. Cottonwood grocery not far) - 4 Site Privacy (A little close together but typical for a private park) - 4 Campground amenities (Bathrooms were great. Private rooms for toilet/shower. Laundry was clean. Restaurants onsite) - 5 Dog friendly (A lot of areas around camp to walk to pooches. The parks were not dog friendly) - 5 Activities (Tons of activities onsite. Great hiking and mountain biking accessible from site) - 5 Cost (A little high but for what you get, it was worth it) - 5 Staff friendliness (staff was very nice) - 5 Connectivity (WiFi at campground was usable for web. Cell was 3G and usable for voice. No OTA. Some campsites have cable) - 4 Total rating = 4.7. We camped at Maverick Ranch RV Park at Lajitas Resort in a Motorhome.

Had high hopes for this park. Nothing "resort" about it. Discovered that the pool was not heated. Big disappointment. Found out the solar heating has not functioned for some time. Really wish we were informed when reservation was made. Found the employees to be aloof. No phone service and wi-fi unreliable. Very windy and the power went out often. We really wanted to like this place, but can't. We camped at Maverick Ranch RV Park at Lajitas Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

The pool has a solar heater but is turned off. I asked why and did not get an answer. This is the most miss managed park I have ever been in. Been traveling via travel trailers since 1979. People have to change site very frequently one guy moved 5 times while I was here. Was the campground full NO. Repair gut for campground has to fix what he can without parts. Walls falling down in pool area. . We camped at Maverick Ranch RV Park at Lajitas Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Spent 3 nights at Maverick Ranch RV Park while exploring the surrounding area and Big Bend National Park. (Approx. 20 miles to the National Park entrance/50 miles to the Panther Junction Visitor's Center located near the center of Big Bend National Park). Paved roads within the rv park along with widely-spaced, level, paved sites. Our site was long enough for our 45' coach and tow. Picnic table and fire ring at each site. Very nice clubhouse and swimming pool area. Territorial views of surrounding rock hillsides; beautiful starry skies at night. The town of Lajitas has a general store which carries basic necessities.

Although we did not do so, guests of the RV Park are invited to visit and use the amenities of the nearby Lajitas Golf Resort and Lanny Wadkin's designed golf course (Black Jack's Crossing), which are located just a block down the highway. We camped at Maverick Ranch RV Park at Lajitas Resort in a Motorhome.

The campground is large, clean, well-maintained and very comfortable. There is much to do with both a state parks and Big Bend National Park, the RV park is conveniently located between the two. Paved roads and parking spots. Not dusty, a rare feat in the desert. Well maintained. Resort across the street with great restaurant (Candelilla), spa, fitness room, gift shop, and golf course. A bit of a drive to Big Bend National Park, but so much better than the closer RV parks it is well worth the ~ 15 mile drive to the entrance. Beautiful views too. Would definitely stay there again. Tips for other Campers:

Eat at Candelilla's across the road. Go to the Starlight Theater in Terlingua Ghost Town (food mediocre, but good entertainment), Big Bend National Park, especially Chisos Basin (gorgeous), cross the Rio Grande and eat in Boquillas (need passport), and shop at the Cottonwood Market in Terlingua for a good selection of organic foods.
