This is a great overnight stop, but you can stay up to 4 days. They have 1 50amp site and 7 30 amp sites all back in. There is a dump site available. We camped at Forest Park in a Motorhome.

We spent two nights at this free city park campground/parking lot (free for 4 nights). There are water and electric hookups, and there may be a dump station, though we did not use it. While the "campground" is really just an asphalt parking area within a larger city park, it was nice to be able to stop and to have free hookups. As a result, we spent some time seeing sites around Lamesa that we would not have seen otherwise. We also enjoyed visiting with others who just stayed here one night. The water and electric are between two sites, so either one rig needs to pull in and back out, or stretch cord/hose under/around the rig. We camped at Forest Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Visit the "Dal Paso Museum" in downtown Lamesa - great insight into the community. The Walmart is closed, but the grocery store that is in the same mall where it used to be is good. Patronize the local businesses.

Very good but electric hook ups only two working. I saw some people leaving because could not get electricity. Need to be fixed and stray dogs get into trash and make mess. We camped at Forest Park in a Motorhome.

Happy to find a clean park with FREE HOOKUPS!!! We stayed the allotted 4 days. It is hard to get level. Lots of folks drive through the park morning, noon and night. Also loads of people "park" around the area. Good Verizon coverage. WiFi at library good and no password. Would use them again!! We camped at Forest Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Don't go out of your way to get to this park. If you are going directly through Lamesa and just have to stop, it could be a reasonable overnight. It's a little better than staying overnight in a truck stop or rest station, but not much. The park is very pretty, and if you have kids or dogs, you might get more out of this place. Also, there is a free disc golf course in the park, if you like that sort of thing. However..... As noted in earlier reviews, the lot is highly unlevel, and the only way to get close to level is to park sideways, which you won't be able to do if it fills up. Also, the park is just off a heavily trafficked road, and so it's a little noisy except for very late at night. While the park itself looks well maintained, I tried walking through the adjacent residential area to get to the post office. Yikes!!! Every three or four houses is boarded up or falling down. I was chased by five very aggressive dogs in less than a mile walk. I had to walk back on the busy street to avoid the dogs, and there is no sidewalk, so it wasn't really safe. I had planned to stay here the four days that you can stay free, but left after one night. I would have left sooner, but it was too late when I got there to move on. I guess I did not feel safe there, but I travel alone. If you are in a group, it might be an ok place to stay. We camped at Forest Park in a Travel Trailer.

We parked our RV in the driveway of relatives in Lamesa, so we didn't actually camp here, but we drove to the campground and confirmed that there are electrical hookups at each site. There is a sewer dump, a trash container, and there is also a water spigot. No toilet facility however. Our relative who drove us by the site told us the park was often full of RVs, but there were none the day we drove by. It is in a nice part of town, surrounded by pretty park land. Review entry form doesn't allow entering $0, but the campsites are free nonetheless. We camped at Forest Park in a Motorhome.

Based on the other reviewers comments we stopped here. It felt very isolated and in a not-so-good area of town. There are no restrooms or showers. We decided to keep traveling. We camped at Forest Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This is a free city operated campground in the city park. The campground is close to playground etc. but far enough away to offer some privacy. This would be a great stop over for people with kids or dogs. Water and electric are included, as well as a dump station. This is a small friendly community where "chicken fried steak" was "invented" at a local cafe. As marked, sites are on an uphill slope, so not overly level. However when I came back this year people were parked sideways across the top of each site. This allows for level pull through parking, and the city doesn't seem to mind. Older trees offer good shade. We camped at Forest Park in a Travel Trailer.

Note: The park is free, but this review wouldn't let me enter "0" for the rate. We stopped here just for an overnight stay on our way to Abilene. We got there after dark; it took a few minutes (with a flashlight) to find the hookups. After that it was no problem. It's true that there's a slope. Your front end will need good jacks. The water and electricity worked fine. We didn't use the dump station. Only two other RVs were there, so we were all able to space ourselves with plenty of room. There was consistent city road noise all night, but for free it was bearable. The surrounding park is very pretty, lots of trees. The city makes a point of saying on their web site that this RV parking is for tourists only. Location: This park is large, but the RV parking itself is at the southeast corner of Hwy. 137 (Bryan St.) and South 9th Street. It's small and easy-to-miss if you're not looking, but you won't have a problem if you know where to look. Overall, a convenient, free place for a stopover. We'd stay there again. We camped at Forest Park in a Travel Trailer.

This is a free campground site run by the city of Lamesa for overnight campers. Basic back in on asphalt with water and electric (30amps) (free). Nice, clean park like setting with playground across the street. Sites not to level-jacks have to do a good job! Overall you can't beat it for a FREE overnight spot. Its at Junction of JCT of Hwy 137 and S Ninth street. We camped at Forest Park in a Travel Trailer.
