This is a nice, quiet park (at least during the week) with beautiful views of the lake. The parks infrastructure is showing its age. The sites are all paved with asphalt, but it is old and crumbling and the sites are quite narrow. All sites have full hook-ups, but they are located very far back and required the use of extensions for my water and sewer connections. While we were there in cooler weather, the fact that only 30 Amp electric service is available could be a problem in the Texas summer heat for newer, large rigs with dual air conditioners. Most of the sites sit on sloping hills and require considerable adjustments front to back and side to side for leveling. Our site had the covered picnic table and fire ring on the opposite side from our rig's door. Overall we had a pleasant stay and will most likely return, but not in the height of summer. We camped at Lavonia COE in a Fifth Wheel.

This park needs some work. The location is good, the views are excellent, but the park is crumbling. We were visiting friends close by and decided to make a night of it, making sure we didn't have to drive in the dark afterward. We made reservations online two days before our arrival and luckily there were two sites left. We chose one and made our reservation. When we arrived, the gate was open and the attendant missing, with a sign giving us the details: Ranger will return tomorrow at ten, all RV spots are full, and nothing else. We knew our site and rolled on in, pulling to the side of the road (but not off, you would sink) to drop our toad. After dropping the toad we surveyed our back in site: It was mostly paved but not anywhere close to level. We backed uphill and tested the levelers, extending the front wheels off the ground quite a bit. The site leveled off slightly as we pulled back further but it was still not level enough to keep the front wheels on the ground. We hooked up to decent water pressure, but the 30-amp power fluctuated down to 90 volts at one time or another, causing concern to me and no blow dryer for my wife. There is also a good sewer connection that we used to dump the next day. Make sure you bring a donut for the sewer. The site had a good covered picnic table and a charcoal grill but we used neither due to the wind and the cold. Looking over the rest of the park there is a lot of things that should be repaired. The dump station is closed, flower beds look to be full of weeds, and rotting wood on the bath house close to us. We did not inspect further. The views are splendid, and the sites spread out, so you don't really see your neighbors unless you go looking for them. Cocktail hour was in front of the large front windshield in the motor home and the sunset view over the lake was worth the trip. We camped at Lavonia COE in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

We stayed in spot 34 which is lovely with beach access and great view of the lake. The spots are all far apart, the staff is nice, the area is well mowed with lots of open grassy areas and sparse shade trees - but it seemed like there are trees by each spot. The place is not well funded compared to other CoE parks. The asphalt is in bad shape with big dips in the road. The pads are also made of asphalt, and some are very unlevel with holes where you'd put your back wheels. It's hit or miss as to the spot quality you'll get. It seemed uncrowded but sold out at the same time; when we asked, the guard said several sites were not listed as available for reservations because the electricity wasn’t working. The bathrooms are clean, just really worn out. No showers which seemed odd, but they have sewer hookups in our spot so we were very happy as we didn't need to worry about water. Great migratory bird watching in November! Ruby crowned kinglets, American Coots, Yellow bellied Sapsucker. We're coming back next summer. We camped at Lavonia COE in a Travel Trailer.

Beautiful lake and #13 is a perfect campsite EXCEPT it is one of a few that doesn't have sewer. **THE world's grumpiest gateman EVER. RUDE! This man does NOT need to be working with the public. He was rude and hateful to each one of the adults in our party at different times. The gate closes at 10 and NO MATTER what, you will walk in. You could be returning from the ER and have a new cast on, and you'd have no suitable excuse in the gateman's mind. (but that was not all he was rude about!). There was one that worked under him that was fairly nice. Great site amenities. We camped at Lavonia COE in a Travel Trailer.

Upon arriving, we drove up to the entry gate and confirmed our reservation and showed our America the Beautiful access pass. We were given our window pass and directions to our site. It was easy enough to find, and easy to get into. There were about a dozen other campers there, but we didn't see them much. It was pretty cold out so, like us, they were probably inside when not away. The lake was nice looking, and we could see it out our back window. The sites are sloped. We were fortunate that the one we reserved was sloped so our front was low to the ground. Others were sloped the other way. The direction of slope throughout the park seemed to be pretty random. We camped at Lavonia COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

Stayed here Friday to Sunday of the Thanksgiving holiday. As it was the only public campground available in the Dallas area. Campground appears to be the orphan stepchild of the Corps of Engineers. It sits on hilly rolling terrain above the lake. Very few trees. The ones that are there appear to have been provided by nature, none have been added to improve shade or act as wind breaks. In November, wind was whipping through pretty good, made life miserable. No site is level front to back, had to improvise to get my tongue low enough to the ground to achieve level, side to side was fine. We camp in a popup without a shower, and only a porta potty for emergencies. So we depend on shower houses. Most public parks are fine. This was an atrocity. The outside timbers are rotting away, paint is pealing every where. Half a roll of toilet paper in the single stall (I always bring my own) stall was backed up when I arrived, managed to finally get it flushed. (Thought I was going to have to go to Home Depot for a plunger) Water leaked from the seal at bottom of toilet, so on my two trips to use it, I was forced to hold my pants off the ground. Oh, no door on stall, just cheap plastic shower curtain. The one shower stall did have a door on shower. But not on changing area. I refused to use it. Cleaned up with wet wipes at camper. Our son braved it, said it was lukewarm and came out in a straight stream like a fire house. The broken tile, chipped paint, no trash can, and lack of concern just put me off. Structure could be bulldozed to the ground with little effort. My son's girlfriend came to pick him up one morning and was immediately followed by the host/ safety patrol to our site, whereupon she was told to get off the grass after having been there 4 or 5 minutes. Other than parking in the road, not sure what guests are supposed to do. Didn't see supposed policy posted. Saw others parked on grass later. Attendant seemed to have vindictive/selective grass fetish. Avoid at all costs; at $30 a night it is highway robbery. We camped at Lavonia COE in a Tent Trailer.

Rate reflects Senior Parks Card. I really can't say much good about this park. First, the roads are not in good shape. The sites are NOT level by any means; although, they were paved. Signs said no open fires, but there were several in the camp grounds at night. Campground host appeared to be disabled and it didn't look like he even checked on anything. Lastly, the electric. Says we were to have 30 amp. A big sticker on the electric box said we were limited to 24 amps. Since we really didn't need a lot of electricity, we thought 'OK'. Bad news was that even when I just turned on the microwave, (12 amps), the voltage went down to 90 Volts. Definitely not good for anything electrical or electronic. In the morning so that we could use the coffee maker, microwave, hair dryer, I just started the generator. Probably not supposed to, but they are supposed to provide 30 amp, 110 v electricity. I was visiting family nearby so that is why I chose this place to stay, but would NOT stay again or recommend it to anyone in anything more than a tent. We camped at Lavonia COE in a Motorhome.

Bathrooms were beyond nasty. One urinal was so corroded your fluid actually just leaked out onto the floor where you were standing. Women complained of no toilet paper. Sites could use some work on the asphalt. Per COE regulations no ground fires. Area around spigot became a muck hole. We camped at Lavonia COE in a Travel Trailer.

Pricey for the amenities offered. Site not level, no shade, bathrooms were scary; not clean and did not want to use showers. Nice enough for a corp park. Roads in good shape. Didn't like that we had to be in the gate by 10pm. Locked out with no code to open. Beautiful lake, but couldn't enjoy because of high winds while we were there. We would return for an overnight while passing through. We camped at Lavonia COE in a Travel Trailer.

Nice area but this is an older campground with only 30 amp service. Very few level sites and more suitable for tent camping. This park's sister site is more suitable to RVs. We camped at Lavonia COE in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a beautiful park on a pretty lake. The bathrooms are horrible. There are two toilets (one broken), one shower for the entire campground without sewer hookups. The facility is very old and should be replaced. There are other open air bathrooms. It is too bad as the park is pretty, sites are level and huge. Many sites with views of the lake. Don't plan on using the facilities. We camped at Lavonia COE in a Travel Trailer.

Smaller COE park. Rate reflects the federal Senior Pass rate. We stayed for 11 days: a nice area. New Wal-Mart just 3-4 minutes away. Also a new Starbucks in Wylie. Good Verizon connection. Big sites: some are not perfectly level, but not really a problem. Most sites have a view of the lake. Would definitely stay again if in the area. We camped at Lavonia COE in a Motorhome.

Wonderful views from sites. Most sites NOT level - some class A's had front wheels off the ground. Spacious sites with covered picnic tables and grill. Sites paved and unlevel and some gravelly in parts. Gates closed from 10 pm to 6 am; if you arrive late, you park near gate and walk to site. Boat ramps there, can fish for catfish and bass from shore with TX license. Very windy here nowadays. Sewer dump for those not staying at full service. Non full-service sites on waterfront. Male/female restrooms each have a big shower (not wheelchair handy) with lots of hot water. Turn past Exxon near Dollar General on Hwy 78. Wylie closest town with Wal-Mart 6 miles from park. Laundry mats in Rockwall (Blue Wave) and Wylie area. Road construction in Rockwall on 205 - can be narrow and crazy and long traffic lines. Road to the park off 78 is zig-zaggy - watch for little Lavonia Park signs. We camped at Lavonia COE in a Motorhome.
