I liked the park, but was very upset too about the upcharge for pets. No mention of that on their website and I've never experienced it at any other KOA! We have 5 small Italian Greyhounds (total combined weight is 57lbs) and were charged $15/day for the dogs! Very disappointing. The time we arrived we experienced rain and found their sites were not good at drainage. While our site wasn't particularly soaked, several other RVs around us found 3-4" of standing water surrounding their doors when they entered and exited. It was less than pleasant. The park has one of the LARGEST enclosed dog parks we have ever seen. It was probably 250' deep! We camped at Leander / NW Austin KOA in a Motorhome.

The office lady was very nice, but the up charges were insulting. $15 for early arrival, $3 for a pet, $5 for guest, $3 for parking, $15 for late departure, clean up fee $25. We visit a lot of NON-KOA RV parks, and this is an unusual policy. Construction noise all night long. Construction equipment with back-up beeping at 3:00 AM. Sites extremely close together. Overpriced at $62. We would not stay here again. Actually, we will avoid KOA parks. We camped at Leander / NW Austin KOA in a Motorhome.

The cons: they were very rude about us having a German Shepherd, since they are not allowed being a viscous breed (but we fully disclosed what dogs we had, and that's not in their rules!) There was a full timer with one so that says it all. Some staff were very rude in addressing us, others were friendly. Lots of long termers, but sites were well kept. Wouldn't let water bowls in dog park, despite 100 plus heat PROS: dog park grass was nicely kept. Pool and spa nicely kept, overall clean park. Easy to maneuver. Construction next door a bit loud and dusty, but not their fault at all. We camped at Leander / NW Austin KOA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Did the IFly Austin, very fun. Fairly close to Austin and lots to do in the area. Austin steam train was fun also. (Even though not a steam train!) Great golf in the area as well as mt. Bike trails.

I spent one night here while visiting the north Austin area. The staff was very accommodating as they cheerfully corrected an error in the booking date. It seems obvious that the biggest thing this park has going for it, other than its staff, is its location. The park itself is typical of most KOAs I seem to land at these days-- a little old and outdated. The park entrance is off a narrow two-lane road, which made for a tight right turn in my 40-ft. motorhome. My pull-thru site was reasonably level and had a clear sky for my satellite dish. WiFi was through Tengo; so, based on past experience, I opted to tether my phone. Some of the guests there were either unaware of, or ignored, the so-called "quiet hours" and continued with their partying after midnight. Had I not been able to use accumulated KOA "value points" to offset their nightly rate, I would have likely looked elsewhere. IMHO KOA parks are, for the most part, are now failing to deliver on the value they once had. We camped at Leander / NW Austin KOA in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Stayed here several nights while attending a family event in the area. The park is clean with both pull through and back in sites as well as a couple of camping cabins. They had a very nice pool and playground area along with pet park and activity building. They also had propane for sale. The sites are fairly close together but well maintained and level. The rate varied by day of the week with weekends at $60 and weekdays at $40. The park is easy to get to just off highway 183 in Leander. The park seemed fairly busy with lots of big fifth wheels and Class A's in the pull through sites. We camped at Leander / NW Austin KOA in a Motorhome.

We stayed here while visiting friends in the area. The sites are very close together and we walk out to our neighbors sewer connection very near the picnic table. The park is very clean and well maintained with some trees for shade. The pool and hot tub are in very good condition and well maintained. The cost per night is elevated on the weekends (don't know why) and $65 a night is a little high. We camped at Leander / NW Austin KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

We've stayed here before and the park is convenient, clean and simple to navigate. The staff is friendly and efficient. WIFI isn't something we rate on but it was better than average. The only negative - as with many KOA's - is the price. Not outrageous, but higher than most similar parks. You know in advance what you will get so that is good but you also know that you'll be paying for it. Other than price our rating would have been higher. We camped at Leander / NW Austin KOA in a Motorhome.

This park has priced itself into the "silly stupid" range as far as I am concerned. I understand that it is in a prime location, however, you really get no break at all for a weekly stay. Had I not had a lot of VKR points to spend I would not have stayed here. Our space had tree limbs that needed pruning and I was told by the office that they would take care of that. After a couple of days I approached the maintenance man directly and he said he was unaware of that. To his credit he went immediately to gather the needed tools and returned to take care of it. Office staff? When we left a permanent resident needed to move her truck so we had clearance to pull out. I went over and asked her to move her truck but I guess we were not fast enough as she returned her truck to the place it had been after a short wait. Rather than pitch a fit at the office we made do with some difficulty. Will I stay here again? Likely not. We camped at Leander / NW Austin KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed at this KOA for a few days and really did like it. Not the fanciest of parks but very clean and well kept. Friendly staff and escort to site. Roads are gravel and easy to navigate. The second drive brings you into the park. The office is to the back. If you have a very large class A call ahead they may want to bring you in another drive. There is a pool and a hot tub. The attraction that we liked best is the very large manicured grass off leash dog park. They also have a doggie vending machine. FHU in correct position and maintained. Good water pressure. No problem with electric. Good Verizon and T-Mobile signal. Good wifi measured 7.65 down .91 up. Cable TV 31 stations. OTA TV also. Large pull throughs, do not have to unhook even on the large rigs. Sites are level and asphalt with grass and some trees. Most have good sat access. Laundry clean with 4 washer 4 driers $1.75 open 24 hours. Camp store good variety of items. The RV park off US-183 to Hero way. We camped at Leander / NW Austin KOA in a Motorhome.

This is a very nice, small, quiet, rural park. No trains nearby, no road noise, no airports. Next door and across the road are all open fields. We had a large pull-thru site for a five-night stay. We camped at Leander / NW Austin KOA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

If you are traveling into Austin, be aware of the toll road freeways. We chose the "pay-by-mail" option which avoided the need to visit an office to pick up a tag; six weeks later we are still waiting for them to bill our address in another state. We called and they said it takes quite a while.

We are a family of 4 with kids ages 8 and 9. We were a bit disappointed in this campground. We enjoyed our stay and I don't want to come off as a campground snob, but it just did not meet our expectations. We did not see it as a good campground for young families. We love Austin, but this great city has a campground issue. This campground was way too far out of the city and there isn't much to experience this far north. It is very clean and the pool/hot tub is nice. We camped at Leander / NW Austin KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

My take: KOA "President's Award" winner. Attractive landscaping, large sites, impressive, KOA discount only. Safety: no concerns - peaceful. Access: Off US-183 to Hero Way, go east, access road in good condition, good signage. Office: Friendly staff, store with food items, snacks, pet treats, RV equipment items, gifts and trinkets. Facilities: Transient sites are all pull-through, tent area, no yurts. Cabins available to rent. Nice, unheated pool, hot tub/spa hours 6 to 9 PM only, no fitness room. Rec center with TV, sofas. Small, clean laundry room. Nice restrooms/showers (score "A"). New playground. Fenced dog run. Campground: Roads are asphalt with gentle turns and no overhead obstacles. Electric at FHU-20/30/50. Sites are asphalt (long-term, back-in sites are gravel) in good condition, grass between sites, level with utilities at mid-rig. Sewer pipe is 4" threaded below ground level with concrete ring. Nice picnic tables but no patio. Good satellite views. Open fires not permitted. Adequate water pressure and taste. Propane sales at $25.20/tank, regardless of current contents. Free cable TV (23 channels). Free Wi-Fi with good coverage and ample bandwidth. Verizon coverage at "5-bars". No railroad or roadway noise. No recycle bins. Bug Report: No insects noted. Runners: CG roads good for running, no fitness room so no treadmills. Yoga: If you don't mind others seeing you, set your mat in front or behind your rig. Conclusion: for the price - recommended. We camped at Leander / NW Austin KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Leander is a northern suburb of Austin. Drive south for anything you want. US-183 (not the toll road US-183A) has fuel, eateries, and fast food. Landromat. Wal-Mart. HEB groceries. Diesel ranged from $2.139 to $2.599. Autozone, O'Reilly's, hardware stores.

Price reflects Value Kard discount for a 'deluxe' pull thru. Sites included a picnic table but were narrow with some tree branches interfering with navigation. Water was green when we turned it on so we drank only bottled water (even the dogs) and used bagged ice. Rain water puddled badly along the gravel interior roads and ditches. Nuts fallen from the trees made something of a mess right outside our doorstep. Much of the staff was less than friendly. Fabulous dog run, if only guests would utilize the campground provided bags and disposal location to pick up after their dogs. Garmin and Rand McNally gps systems fail to recognize that Hero Way now connects with Highway 183A. Convenient to shopping. We would stay again. We camped at Leander / NW Austin KOA in a Motorhome.

Smaller cramped park located convenient to the growing Leander area. Back in sites were very close / crowded, but the pull throughs in center were twice as long as needed, which was curious. Park drives are pebble gravel, and feature large messy puddles when raining. Little shade. Our site required 1 lego block pair to get level. Central complex has an attractive pool, but it also has very loud cowboy music playing non-stop. 25 channels of free analog cable TV worked fine. Staff were friendly and pleasant at check in. WiFi reliable but slow (0.7 Mbps up / 0.2 Mbps down during busy evening times). Very nice fully fenced large and very clean grassy dog park. We camped at Leander / NW Austin KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Small campground however level sites with nice sized pull-thru for big rigs and a toad [100' long]. The dog park is the largest we've seen and very well maintained. The hot tub was being opened the first night we stayed however we did not participate. It's a good location for visiting our family in Cedar Park.
