This was an overnighter for us, but after being near Brownsville for 8 months it was really nice to see shade trees. The campground is on a lake. They have paddleboats, and fishing is allowed.. We had a long, level, gravel site. The tv reception was great. If we're ever in this area again, we'd like to spend some time at this campground. We camped at Wilderness Lakes RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Nice park, excellent staff. Major drawback is the distance to the showers, especially from the pool. Nice hiking areas also. We camped at Wilderness Lakes RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Smolik's Bar-B-Q has great food, located in nearby Mathis. Although a small town, groceries, hardware, etc. are available. Lake Corpus Christie is across the road for water interests.

Overall Rating:

Very clean, quiet, well managed resort. The roads were a bit rough but it had rained a lot and it is a wilderness park. Lots of trees and wildlife; especially water fowl. The lots were mostly very large and reasonably level with concrete patios and picnic tables. They have city water which was a surprise since they are several miles from the nearest city. Great free fishing in stocked lakes/ponds with boats provided. Everyone, staff and other campers, were very friendly and helpful. There seems to be a quite a few long term/permanent campers and we think we just might become one too. Loved the peace and quiet. We camped at Wilderness Lakes RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

This park seems to be full most of the time. We had difficulty getting a reservation. We would recommend reserving early. Lake Corpus Christi state recreation center is practically across the street with more great fishing and boating. Corpus Christi is east about 40 min. San Antonio is about an hour north west. We found two really good restaurants in Mathis, which is about 5 miles from the park, Vans Burgers (they have a very nice bar) and Smolicks BBQ.

Overall Rating:

First, the management staff here is great. They are very welcoming and are very friendly from when you first arrival and throughout the stay. Second, security is great as well, but beware the park speed limit is strictly enforced, 10 mph. The camp layout is quite big with plenty of space between the sites. You are not going to feel cramped up. There are quite a few long-terms inside of the park, and they have all of the nice spots already reserved, which means that the remaining sites don't have as much shade. Wi-Fi is okay, not great, but good enough to check your e-mails. The main office has a nice dance hall in it, along with a very large kitchen and they usually have potluck's and other activities on a weekly basis. I didn't have any issue with utilities, other than the cost for electrical raising up during the summer months, you pay for your own site electricity as you stay. There are 3 fishing ponds/lakes on site along with a nice dog park, and a great hiking trail. I see the local wildlife every morning and sometimes in the evening on a daily basis. Overall a great little park and I would definitely return! We camped at Wilderness Lakes RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

There is great fishing right across the road from the campground, constant moving river right behind the Lake Corpus Christi Dam. Excellent bass and catfish, though the walk down to the river can be a little steep in areas, but definitely worth the walk if you are into fishing!

This could be a nice park with some maintenance and effort. Roads are narrow, rutted and overgrown. With lots of large sites open, we were directed to one the was unlevel, needed limbs cut and was almost long enough. We moved to one that was narrow and infested with fire ants. Cell service is spotty, WIFI is costly and on June 27, we were denied Passport America rates although the park was half empty because it was "almost" the 4th of July. The marked exit path is a treacherous gauntlet with green posts and big rocks strategically placed to make a tight turn much worse. We won't be back. We camped at Wilderness Lakes RV Resort in a Motorhome.

This trip was a fact finding venture, looking for somewhere to hang our hat for a few months during the winter, and I think we found what we're looking for at Wilderness Lakes. There are many "winter texans",among the full time residents, and most seem friendly enough. The site we had was a pull-through, gravel, with a concrete patio. WSE are all good. There are enough activities going on to keep those interested, busy enough. Most rv's here were fairly new, those that were not were well kept. We put in application to come back next winter for an extended stay. We camped at Wilderness Lakes RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

If you love nature walks and fishing, this is the place for you. Beautiful. The sunrises and sunsets are breathtaking. Clean bathrooms and showers. Laundry rooms clean too. Washers need attention. Fenced play area for the kids and dogs. Activities for all. Friendly staff. Nice park overall. Only bad thing was the tree spray. Mesquite, I think. Covered everything. Sticky. And thorns would puncture kids bike tires. We camped at Wilderness Lakes RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Actually stayed here for 3 months so our nightly rate, when broken down, is lower than normal. Quiet, not many activities going on during the summer months. They just put in a salt water pool. Small but refreshing. A lot of empty campers sitting empty waiting on the "winter Texans" to come back.

Many living here full time or are passing through workers like me. They appear to have many more activities during the winter months. There is a very large book exchange area. There are 2 laundry areas that are clean;however, they are slow to repair broken machines.

The grounds are pretty but not always maintained well. The driveway into the park is full of pot holes. The roads through out are supposed to be gravel but the gravel has worn away in allot of areas with just dirt remaining. So as you can imagine, everything is dusty. My husband's biggest gripe is that you can't wash your vehicle or camper unless you are a full-time resident. We have had to mow our own grass and spray for weeds because it was getting out of hand. They did have the equipment for us to sign out to do the grass but still we shouldn't have to do it ourselves.

They staff are pleasant and helpful. The WiFi you purchase through G-Tech which you can do for a month at a time. Works OK most of the time. We have a dish so TV was not a problem.

It is close to Lake Corpus Christi so good place to stay if you can't get a spot at the lake. All in all, we would stay here again. We camped at Wilderness Lakes RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

We actually stayed long term at this park from March to early June 2016. We then went on a long trip to Oregon and stayed in 20+ other RV parks. Wilderness Lakes is in our top three, particularly for long-term stays. The grounds are absolutely gorgeous, with the lakes, the trails through tree-covered parks, the varied wildlife. The whole place was extremely well maintained by the staff. Staff were very friendly; the place felt like a welcoming community, with regular potlucks and other fun activities; the clubhouse is large (kitchen is huge!) and well-suited for reunions and other group activities.

The only minor complaints we had was the choice to not pave the roads going through the park since this created extra noise, and the WiFi being restricted. But a great location near Lake Corpus Christi with all the opportunities for fishing, etc. Just wonderful overall. :) We camped at Wilderness Lakes RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Taking daily walks was a joy in the great parks. Fishing in the lakes was good. The little town of Mathis is small, but fairly nice, and located on the interstate, so getting in and out was easy.

This was our first stop ever. We had lots of questions, and we received a lot of answers and help from the folks at Wilderness Lakes. There are a lot of permanent people here and these were the first to offer us help with some of our questions and issues. The wifi is pay to use and it is tough to keep a solid signal. We did find a place in the RV where we could stay connected well enough to get something done. AT&T cellular connectivity was especially hard to find around our spot, though we were able to make and receive calls. It was a bit tight to get into the pull through, but that may be because I am such a rookie. We camped at Wilderness Lakes RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Nightly rate is monthly plus metered electric divided by 30 days. Entry road is a little rough, but it is paved. Roads in the park are gravel or dirt and dusty, but easy to get in and out of sites. Big rig friendly. Nicest staff you will ever meet. Lots of year-round residents, but lots of pride of ownership and no junky sites whatsoever. Constant new projects while we were there, including new dog park, new shower/laundry building, and adding about 50 new sites that should be ready by summer 2014. Many activities including bingo, guitar groups, exercise groups, pot luck dinners, nice library. Lots of campers have golf carts. We would definitely go back.
