We stayed one night in site #25 (back in, electric and water only). The park is easily located right off of I-20. The sand hills are fascinating and the kids loved sliding down them on the disks we rented from the park office. We had full LTE service from AT&T. We did not try the OTA or satellite for TV although I suspect they'd both be just fine. We enjoyed our stay and would return when traveling through this part of west Texas. We camped at Monahans Sandhills State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We only spent one night here passing through (and still had to pay $4 per person entrance fee in addition to the camping fee) but it looks like a fun campground. Nestled among sand dunes, you can rent discs to sled the hills. The water and electric hookups worked fine. There is a dump site. The bathhouse was clean and had plenty of hot water for showers. Beware of high winds. We caught a storm passing through and we were buffeted with wind gusts of up to 70 mph. That sand can sting! There is no wifi available and winds prevented us from raising the antenna. We camped at Monahans Sandhills State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

I loved camping here! We had a site right next to the sand dunes where our kids could go sledding. The sunsets and sunrises were both so beautiful. They rent or sell sleds at the Visitor Center where you check-in. We were staying for 5 days so it made more sense to buy than rent. There are not very many big rig sites, but the site we were in was good. We were in site 9 and we have a 41 foot 5th wheel. Verizon coverage was good. We camped at Monahans Sandhills State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Our site was not very level, however it worked out. The water spigot leaks when turned on and can't be fixed. (several leak in park). Power worked well and was placed properly. We camped at Monahans Sandhills State Park in a Motorhome.

The park features large sand dunes with great views, beautiful white sand dunes and a pretty sunset made our stay a pleasure. You can rent plastic discs to slide down the dunes for about $1.00 per hour at the park head quarters. Many of the sites are listed as pull throughs, though they are parallel to the road and not all are big rig friendly Camping area has 26 water and 50/30/20 electric sites, most look pretty level (some are on a slope). with a central dump station. We camped at Monahans Sandhills State Park in a Motorhome.

Easy access from I-20 - just off Exit 86. Narrow, paved interior roads, mostly level, paved sites. Only 26 Sites; some back-ins; pull-throughs are along side of road. The park doesn't reserve you a particular site, so plan to arrive early in the day to get a suitable one, not all are big-rig friendly. We enjoyed camping in the sand dunes, and would stay here again. We camped at Monahans Sandhills State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a GREAT place to stop with the kids or grandkids and let them enjoy the sledding on the sand. We went right after a rain, turns out that is perfect conditions! The office staff is GREAT *IF* you get K.C. - the female staff person is very cold and unfriendly. The supt and K.C. are really terrific. The place was clean. The space between campsites is good. Hookups were good. Highly recommend as an overnight stop or a destination. We camped at Monahans Sandhills State Park in a Motorhome.

Very fun place to camp! The sites are set within the dunes so it's easy to head out straight from the camper to sledding after the sun has gone down. The sled rental closes in the late afternoon, so make sure to bring your own. The sites were mostly sand-free and level with good room between neighbors and ample space for larger RVs (we have a 38' 5th wheel and had plenty of room to park and not unhook). The only reason I knocked it down a few stars was because the entire campground lost power at 3 AM. I was still pretty warm since it was July, and there was NO number to call anywhere to report the outage! We finally saw a park ranger around 9 AM the following morning, and he said he had no idea the power was out. By that time, a good number of campers had left before dawn because of the situation. We camped at Monahans Sandhills State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Sandhills is a one-of-a-kind campground. We planned an overnight here because it was a mid-way point between stops for us. There is not a bit of shade anywhere, but the dunes and sand make it starkly beautiful. The park ranger was very helpful and suggested site number 12 for us, but also said if we found something else we liked better, to just call the office and let them know we switched sites. Easy to maneuver within the campground, but would probably be difficult if there was a lot of wind drifting the sand.
We'd stay here again. We camped at Monahans Sandhills State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed three days to do a photo shoot. The dunes are beautiful and kids have fun sliding down the larger ones, some as tall as 50-70 feet. Colorful sunsets and sunrises. Check-in clerk was a little snippy but got the job done. She assigned a site where our coach step buried itself a few inches in the sand when we opened the door, although we were as close to the utilities as we could get. They have "eyebrow" type pull throughs, most of which appear to be a little short for larger rigs. We saw a big rig in one, but it was actually taking up 2 sites. We switched to a back-in which was paved, level, and of adequate width. Utilities worked well. We had no problem with Verizon signal strength for phones but did not have adequate strength for the Mi-fi. We had a concern about the metal archway over the entrance, since there were no signs giving its height and the office didn't know the minimum clearance, although they advised they had had 18 wheelers and large tour type buses go through with no problem. Be advised you will have sand everywhere in the RV, but hey, its the sand hills, so expect to clean after you leave. Although easy on and off and close to I-20, it is quiet. Our site had a metal table covered by a metal awning. We enjoyed the stay. We camped at Monahans Sandhills State Park in a Motorhome.

The rate reflects the $8/day admission fee ($4/person) plus $15 for the site fee. The previous May review said it all. Office staff had no sense of humor, sand everywhere, and the sites are sharp U shape making it difficult to park a larger RV. We ended up on the "wrong" side of the utilities to avoid foot deep sand and the sharp turn we'd have had to make to place the utilities on the correct side. Each site has a covered picnic table, but it is sitting in the sand. Aside from the difficulties this is an interesting park and we had a lot of fun watching a wedding photo shoot as well as people sliding down the dunes. We camped at Monahans Sandhills State Park in a Motorhome.

Monahans Sandhills State Park is an interesting Texas State Park near Monahans, Texas. The park features large sand dunes. You can rent or purchase plastic discs to slide down the dunes. The camping area has 26 water and 50/30/20 electric sites with a central dump station. Great place to visit or stay for a night or two. We were in site #9. This was a gorgeous park. The sites are well spaced. And the sand dunes are so cool. No night time light pollution. Lots of walking trails. Cell services is spotty if that's important. But it is remote place. We saw two rattlesnakes mating when we drove in! Overall this was a fantastic place to stay, we hated to leave. This is a great place to stop-over, or to stay a few days. There are a limited number of sites with water and electric, and more camping/tent sites, and some pavilions for picnics. The best part - if you're traveling - is that the place is QUIET. No traffic or trains. It's right off of I-20, with easy access. I suggest that you Google the park, because there are too many details to mention here, but I highly recommend it. We stop here every year in January on the trip west, and there's always room. It might be another story in the warmer months. No sewer hookups, but a dump station on the way out. I had 3G coverage, and cell phones worked fine. We camped at Monahans Sandhills State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Check this park out online. They rent saucers/discs, for sliding down the dunes, and the children love it.

The website wouldn't let me add a comment at the price. It's based on cost of the site plus a per person entry fee. It was $4 per adult, and $15 for the site.

We are 52 feet including towing a car, so they can handle some larger rigs.

This is an oddball place. It's a campground surrounded by sand dunes just off I-20. We arrived at 4:35 expecting to be able to check in at the office only to find out that they close at 4:30. There is a self-pay station, but I didn't have the cash or a check and you are only supposed to pay for one night and then go to the office in the a.m. if you wanted another night (which we did) You also cannot see the campground from there so we had no idea as to the availability or if there was a site that would suit us, so we just went ahead. Availability wasn't a problem because there were only about four or five other campers. We found that many of the back-in sites were inaccessible because the sand dunes had covered them. It kind of made the place feel like a ghost town. I don't know if the staff doesn't bother maintaining the sites during the off season or what. We found a back in site that worked for us and set up camp. The campground is a mile and a half from the office and we would've had to "un-setup" completely after I got inside to get cash and/or a check to drive up to the pay station and I wasn't about to walk 3 miles round trip to pay so I figured a ranger would come by the next morning and I'd pay then. Long story short, no one ever came by and we ended up stopping to pay at the office on the way out on the third day. We saw a number of people come in late and leave early and I'd be willing to guess they did not pay. Really not a place that seems to be well managed at all. It is very pretty though if you like the dunes/desert type of landscape. The washroom was bright and seemed clean enough, but nothing special. Didn't use it. No wi-fi, but Verizon worked ok. For $15 electric & water (plus the rip-off "per person/per day" use fee, but we have the TX pass so didn't have to pay that), it was a good deal, and I'd probably stay again if I needed a place in the area, but it was the least inviting of the six TX state parks where we've stayed. We camped at Monahans Sandhills State Park in a Truck Camper.
