Newly rebuilt 3-years ago, this is the jewel of the Texas State Park system. There are only 20 sites but all of them have concrete pads, full-hookups and lovely crushed granite picnic areas at each campsite. The pull-throughs are very long and even the back-ins are nice and roomy. The HQ and bath/shower rooms are brand new and super clean. All in all a great State Park in the Texas system. We do have a couple complaints, it's not perfect. First, they love to brag about their prairie grass and that it's not mowed. It looks great - but it's full of stickers (and chiggers). Keep your pets out of the grass or they'll be instantly covered in hard to remove stickers. Unfortunately there is no real grass - no place you can walk your pet without the sticker issue. Also, there are not a lot of things to do around the area, but that's OK it's fun to relax. There isn't any wifi, but ATT Cell service is good and Verizon is OK, too. We camped at Mother Neff State Park in a Motorhome.

We have stayed at Mother Neff twice now. The first time was July 2016. The second time April 2018. This is not the fault of the park but the first time it was hot as Hades and the second time a cold front came in and we had to go to town to find warm clothing! Yes, we hope the third time is the charm. But it is still a wonderful park. The sites are very nice, concrete and full hookups. It is a small park so it is nice and quiet. We love the trails especially the trail to the tower. The rangers are top notch and quite helpful. Mother Neff was the first Texas State Park. It is not that far from Waco which has some nice sights. We camped at Mother Neff State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This is a beautifully maintained park that was renovated about three years ago; the buildings all look new. There are not many sites, only 20. Some are pull-through, but all are very spacious and meticulously maintained. The little courtyard by our site was made of crushed granite - it was raked prior to our arrival, a very nice touch. We did some hiking and thoroughly enjoyed the trails - shady and well-maintained. Literature states max rig size of 40 - this is wrong, 45' can easily fit in all slots. We camped at Mother Neff State Park in a Motorhome.

We were very impressed with this newly renovated park and campground. We reserved on line for a Friday and Saturday night stay. On arrival we were shown the available sites and they have a notebook of pictures of each site, which helped us pick site #7. They also gave a welcome packet and the boy scouts sell firewood by the stick (not the bundle) so you can pick your 12 pieces for $5.00. The bathrooms were the cleanest I've seen at a state park. There are lots of trails, a playground, a cave and some of the original CCC structures. We camped at Mother Neff State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

This was our first experience in a Texas State Park camping area and we were extremely impressed. By reserving a campsite 5 weeks in advance, we camped here for 2 nights in a travel trailer. Upon arriving, we selected a pull-thru that had no shade. The concrete pad was very long and there was plenty of room for our tow vehicle. This December weekend all but 3 campsites were occupied, but it was very quiet the entire weekend. The Full-Hook-up sites are very nice, nearly brand new and spacious with ample space between campsites that allowed for privacy. Very level concrete pads for RVs with aluminum picnic tables and a metal campfire ring. A security gate, with code access, is closed at 10pm, but campers are provided the code so they can come and go. Both pull-thru and back-in campsites are available. Tents must use this area due to the tent campsites are flood damaged. The Park Ranger called us two days prior to arriving to advise us that the county had instituted a burn ban and that no campfires were permitted. We arrived at the park after the park office was closed, so we were able to finalize our payment early the next morning. Park staff was exceptionally helpful and friendly. The only recommendation we made to the Park Rangers would to improve the signage throughout the park. We camped at Mother Neff State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Waco and the Magnolia Silos are about a 30 minute drive eastward. Homestead Craft Village outside of Waco is very interesting. Good down-home cookin' buffet at a steal of a price can be had at Coffee Shop Café, 1005 W McGregor Dr, McGregor.

This campground is now basically brand new (3 yrs old) since rebuilding after a flood in 2007. Beautifully groomed campsites and nice clean bathrooms. Showers have lots of hooks and a shelf for your toiletries. I'd give them a perfect 10 if they had a laundry. We camped at Mother Neff State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We arrived late - after the office closed. Our name was on the late arrival board with a choice of open sites. We chose #7 which gave some shade from the midday sun but good sunrises and sunsets. We paid up the next morning. Lots of easy walks in the park, and as the lower end is still closed it has become a great roost for the vultures The RV pads are relatively new so everything is clean tidy and well thought out. We watched the hosts clean each site when folks left. They emptied the fire pit, scrubbed the fire grate then raked the gravel areas smooth. This has to be the cleanest state park in Texas. The host maintains a great box of free kindling too. We camped at Mother Neff State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Beautiful visitor center and friendly staff. Check in was easy, they were happy to let us get to our spot as we got there close to closing time and come back to pay the next morning. We had a choice of a few spots and got to pick which one worked best for us. Easy drive through loops, level spots, easy to back into and very spacious. Had Fire pits and patio tables. Verizon signal was good. No wifi. They had playgrounds and trails all around. Had light traffic noise. We camped at Mother Neff State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Although we camp hosted at Mother Neff, I simply have to share my experience of this park. People might overlook Mother Neff because it's small, at around 250 acres. But that would be a mistake. The juniper/cedar prairie-setting campground is one of the nicest we've seen anywhere. All sites are level, or very close to level. Sites 3 and 5 have shade from later afternoon sun and shaded picnic tables. Sites 14, 16 and 17 have some shaded areas from midday sun. Site 17 is a short walk to the beautiful bathhouse. Site 3 isn't far. But there are paths from all areas of the campground that lead to the bathhouse. All pull-through sites are suited for big rigs. Most afford good satellite view. Sites 9, 11, 13, and 20 have full sun. For those who enjoy hiking, take off down the Wash Pond Trail or Cave Trail and into another world. A spring fed stream feeds into the pond, which is crystal clear. The trees are much larger than those on the prairie. You'll hear and see dozens of different kinds of birds. In the early evening, you may see rabbits or deer grazing in open areas of the prairie. The park rangers and staff could not be nicer. They are proud of their park and work hard to ensure that it is well cared for. They truly want customers to have a great experience while visiting Mother Neff. There are occasional rocket tests at Space-X and artillary booms at nearby Fort Hood, but those occasional happenings don't really distract from the beauty, peace and tranquility of Mother Neff State Park. And one day, when the log jam in the Leon River is cleared out and the flooding ceases, the river bottom campground might be reopened and you will be able to experience yet another aspect of the beauty of Mother Neff. In the mean time, though, treat yourself to a camping experience at this little gem of a park. You won't regret it! We camped at Mother Neff State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Terrific homemade pies at the Coffee House Cafe in McGregor. Nearby Lake Belton has great Corps of Engineer Parks for a picnic. We highly recommend the Gin on Nolan Creek restaurant in Belton. Mesquite grilled fare is delish! Grocery stores: Brookshire Brothers in Moody, 6 miles away. McGregor, 10 miles away, is a larger Brookshire Bros. Our favorite is H-E-B in Gatesville, 20 miles away. Best meat selection and largest produce section.

This SP was completely renovated just over a year ago and the Park is in superior condition. Not only is the Park in great condition, the Park Rangers and Hosts were friendly and especially helpful. It is a quieter SP as compared to some of the large CGs, which is very nice for relaxing and enjoying the quiet. Visitors should know that you can hear distant artillery fire from Fort Hood throughout the day and every once in awhile the testing of rocket engines at another facility. We camped at Mother Neff State Park in a Motorhome.

This SP is fairly close to Waco, which offers quite a few tourist kinds of activities, countless choices of restaurants, and shopping. Mother Neff SP has an interesting and quite beautiful hiking trail system and several playgrounds for children. We'd have to say that this SP was clearly the newest that we've have visited and is maintained to a very high standard.

Employees are extremely gracious and helpful! Best service and reception I have had in many stays in State Parks. Arrived just as they had locked up the office and was told to find a spot I liked and take care of paperwork in the morning. Park host and three other campers were all that were here for the night, so very quiet and peaceful.

Brand new facility with concrete pads, long wide pads for your rv, 50 amp power, sewer drops and plenty of water. First time for me at this State Park but will not be my last! Several area attractions for hiking and sightseeing that we just did not have time for as this was an intermediate stopover. I will make it a destination very soon because of the nice folks and comfortable feel of the place. Best State Park accommodations I have run across yet. Look up the website for this park and explore all the amenities. Local attractions for hiking and outdoor activities with very knowledgeable park employees and a park host on site! Plan to spend two or three nights here as there is plenty to keep you interested and occupied. One of the best bargains out there for full hookups and amenities available.

Beautiful park! We were only there only one night but everything was nice, new and very clean. Campsites were excellent - easy to get into and set up. Only concern would be a summer trip - not many sites with shade trees. Picnic table at each site that sits in a large cleared area with some type of crushed granite. Roads were nice and paved and pads are level and paved. Can't say enough about this beautiful park! We camped at Mother Neff State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Recently renovated (Jan 2015), the campsites are spacious and easy to get into (at least 6 were pull-through). This is a quaint, family friendly park with helpful, hospitable staff and a beautiful new headquarters. The various hiking trails (and geocaching!) are easy to moderate (at least for our family with younger children) but well worth it. No Wi-Fi , but AT&T cell service was fine. Unfortunately, the recent flooding caused the fishing and swimming areas to be closed so we cannot comment on those. We would certainly stay here again.
