We have spent two months here and this is by far the nicest park in the area. The rate is for a month, plus metered electric. The location next to the Rio Grande Valley State park and the bike trails were a real plus. The park has nice landscaping and all drives and sites are concrete or asphalt, with plenty of space between sites. There are many activities. They have a well equipped craft room and a very well equipped wood shop. We found the water to be very hard and we used a softener. There are two laundry which we found to be nice. The workers were very nice upon check-in and they show you to the site. The restrooms and the club house were clean. I didn't find the negatives that others have written about. Don't confuse this park with a park with a similar name farther north. Because the park was about full, we have reserved for two months next winter. Overall I have found this to be a top rated park. We camped at Bentsen Palm Village RV Park in a Motorhome.

Stayed two months in a 42' 5th wheel and cost includes electric usage at $0.13/kwh. Very nice people worked here and really enjoyed the kayaking trips on the Rio Grande. Nice concrete pull-thru sites on a spoke and hub system was a welcome departure from straight lines. Nice hedges between neighbors for additional privacy. The major issues with this park had to do mostly with older infrastructure and dated looking facilities. The main clubhouse is way too small for the park and had no air conditioning. The fitness room had equipment that broke, the trash bins were overflowing several times and we had power outages from the heat and client demands. The pool area was way too small for the size of the park so didn't even use. WiFi was good initially but deteriorated severely in the 2nd month. Poor cable TV package also. Based on all of this, don't feel the need to go back. We camped at Bentsen Palm Village RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

The Rio Grande Valley has some nice birding parks but not enough to keep one's time occupied for two months. Kayaking on the Resaca Lake and Rio Grande River was awesome. Having driven all over this country I can state the drivers in the RGV are terrible. No courtesy, lots of texting and talking on phones while driving and clogged highways.

Do not let the location or landscaping fool you because looks are not everything. Starting with management and all the way down to the laundry room this place is bad. Management will threaten you about everything responding "If you don't like it you can leave". Laundry is a joke. None of the dryers will dry a load of clothes after 45 minutes and the washers don't wash for even 5 minutes. Small things, I know, but if you want to pay a LOT for what little you get then go ahead. Work out room is hit or miss if the machines will work or not. Bathrooms/showers are OK but could use more cleaning. Clubhouse is a joke. This room isn't sealed from the outside so everything is always dirty. And....the cockroaches. You also take a big chance with the lawn mowing service. This is done by an outside company and they could care less if they throw rock, debris etc. on your coach. I heard a window got shattered from a thrown stone last year. Several people not happy here but once you pay there is nothing to be done. You would do better to pay less at any other park. Sorry but you have been warned. We camped at Bentsen Palm Village RV Park in a Motorhome.

Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted and given a voluminous packet of info about the park and surrounding area to get us started. Sites at Bentsen Palms reflect a mix of construction era's. The first two loops upon entering the park have blacktopped pads and a concrete patio. Sites are reasonably spaced and long enough to park the tow vehicle with room to spare after disconnecting. The southern two loops are all concrete pad / patio construction and in better shape. We stayed in the second loop around the clubhouse and without auto-leveling would have required some blocking side to side. Water pressure was measured at 45 psi, 50a elec was stable, cable TV reception was too snowy on many channels so we used our antenna exclusively. OTA channel reception was very good and you get all the major networks plus a number Spanish. WiFi service was very good. Plantings around the patio on many sites serve as effective screens but are curiously placed and prevent easy access to the patio when coming either way along the door side of the RV. We eventually chose a path thru the foliage which wasn't the best on wet days. The clubhouse looks tired and in need of a renovation but there are daily activities so it was well used during our stay. The exercise room is small with useful equipment, unfortunately several pieces were broken. The laundry room / bath facility near the pool were clean and in similar condition as the clubhouse. The second laundry building located in the southern loops was newer and appeared functional. The grounds are kept clean and pet owners were conscientious about picking up after. This park is principally an RV travelers park with very few casitas, park models, etc. As such, meeting people was easy and a pleasure. We will come back again. We camped at Bentsen Palm Village RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

The location is great with close access to Bentsen Palm state park and a national butterfly center as well as bike/hike trails. The park provides free access pass to the state park which is great for hiking/biking/birding. Be sure to take advantage of the pontoon boat ride and kayaking on the Rio Grande while there.

We have stayed at Bentsen Palm Village RV Resort for two weeks. Rate is $600 per month. It is a huge park but the snowbirds are gone so we basically have the place to ourselves, very nice. Internet works great. Managers Don and Jeni are the best. Jeni even gives you her cell number! She is professional and very helpful.

Everything is kept in tip top shape and it is beautiful. We chose this park because it is near 5 of the 9 World Birding Centers in South Texas and within walking distance of the Bentsen WBC. We camped at Bentsen Palm Village RV Park in a Motorhome.

It's obvious that at one point this was a premier RV Park, but has been allowed to become far less than what you pay for.

The laundry facilities are very poor quality and not nearly enough machines for a park of this size. The fitness equipment is poor quality and several of the machines don't work. There are far too few restrooms/showers and for the first 4 weeks of our 7 week stay there was no hot water in the larger of the 2 restroom/shower/laundry buildings. The water is completely undrinkable and left a nasty residue on everything it touched including our water lines, it took 2 weeks to get the nasty taste out of our water lines. We went through 3 water filters in 3 weeks before giving up and just using water for hand washing.

The sugar cane growers burned fields every few days leaving a soot residue on everything, not to mention the smoke. And surprisingly it is windy all the time........almost Wyoming windy!

It's not all bad though. The nearby Bentsen Palms bird sanctuary is a real treat but you can see it in a day. We camped at Bentsen Palm Village RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

This is an older park and the blacktop roads are not in the best condition. Sites are concrete and asphalt, many are pull through. There are things to do and activities are coordinated with work kampers. The park is clean and my only gripe is the hot tub isn't very hot and there has been no hot water in the showers for a long time. I would stay here again but the cost makes it a poor value for what you get. We camped at Bentsen Palm Village RV Park in a Motorhome.

The best aspect of this park is the guests, mostly active, young retirees, and the Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park bird sanctuary for hiking and biking. The park features a club house, craft room, wood shop and several palapas. The pool is heated well, and we enjoyed the hot tub. There are plenty of machines in the laundry, clean and reasonably priced. The park management also sponsors dinners, shows, and the favorite, Wednesday night margarita socials. Other activities included exercise, line dancing, cards and breakfasts. We also enjoyed the park-sponsored river cruise. There were many good restaurants in the area that we attended as a group. The site spacing is good, especially if you are in one of the "wheel hubs." We had a large patio with nice landscaping, including rose bushes. We were welcome to pick free citrus fruit from the trees behind our RV and could have utilized a garden plot if we were there longer. We camped at Bentsen Palm Village RV Park in a Motorhome.

Besides the bird park, a butterfly park is within bicycle riding distance. A nearby firing range is also available to the resort gun club.

We were in a long concrete pull thru in the 600 loop. All sites in the loops are arranged like spokes on a wheel. Excellent utilities, wifi and very nice clean landscaping. The park is gated for security and plenty of Border Patrol presence in the area The staff was terrific and there are many activities going on in the park. The park provided ham for the Christmas pot luck dinner in the activity center. We really enjoyed our stay here, hope to return. We camped at Bentsen Palm Village RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Beautiful, park best ever. Close to stores. We stayed in 600 circle pull thrus. Most winter Texans were gone. This is the nicest park we've stayed in. Wide roads, green spaces. In winter would be lots of activities. Great place to winter. Washrooms and laundry clean. All positive about park, very pet friendly. Only negative is smell from sewer. This was our first visit here. Friends of ours bought a place in Retama (owned by the Bentsen Palm Development) next to Bentsen Palm Village so we decided to come and stay for 2 months to check it out. We hadn't been to the Rio Grande Valley in over 10 years, and it really had grown quite a bit. This was really a nice place and laid out pretty well. It had some good amenities: workshop, craft room, laundry, and club house. Mostly they offer monthly stays but if they have space you can get in for a shorter stay. The rate I quoted is based on a daily rate. They take reservations for the longer stays first (4-6 months) so we pretty much got what was left from those staying 3 months or longer. During peak season (January & February) they charge from the 1st of the month and partial months pay for a full month so they really are geared for monthly guests. We got a site in one of the circles and it looked nice, but as it turned out the club house was in our circle and it was VERY noisy. People would park in the circle while attending functions even when they weren't supposed to making it difficult to get our of your site. Even with complaints nobody did anything about it. They typically don't get a lot of rain but his year was different, and many of the sites in our circle flooded. We could not get in or out of our site without sinking into 1 inch or more of water and mud. They offered us some patio pavers to help but it was a mess anyway. As it turned out we bought a lot in Retama and moved over there after the first 2 weeks. They are both the part of the same development but Retama is owned RV lots with coach and port houses and houses. Before we left, Bentsen Palm Village had started offering RV lots with storage sheds for sale as well so it will probably be more owned lots than rental lots as Retama, their sister community is. I got the impression they were trying to get away from rentals while we were there but I'm not sure if it will go 100% owned lots or not. As it is they have owned lots that owners rent out just as they do next door in Retama. It is a nice place but they did not plan the lots with rain in mind because flooding is an issue in the Bentsen Palm side & they seem to be investing more money in developing the Retama side these days....which may be why they are trying to sell lots. We camped at Bentsen Palm Village RV Park in a Motorhome.

Rate reflects monthly rate. On the plus side, this park is wonderfully dark and quiet at night, and there was lots to do. We were put in circle #3 and we had the best time with the people in that circle. They were all super friendly and welcoming. It was very hard to leave them. On the negative side: our first site was underwater when it rained for 2 days, as was our tow vehicle, and other sites in this circle. We were unable to get out. When we asked to move to another site where it was dry, we ended up without power for a day and night as the breaker was gone. They did replace it quickly when we told them of the problem. The washrooms and showers were clean, but are terribly out of date. I don’t know how they got a good rating on them, as they are very sad. There were 3 instances of “illegals” in the park the month we were here. (The last time they came into the park they took some items from some rigs, to use to build a fort to hide in.) We did have a problem with the amount we were charged for electricity. Luckily we had taken pictures, with dates, of the readings when we went into and out of the 2 sites we had. It did take a bit of work to get the refund processed, but it was eventually done with apologies for the errors. We would stay here again. We camped at Bentsen Palm Village RV Park in a Motorhome.

Nightly rate reflects monthly rate discount. Positives: 1) activities, activities, activities! - there was no getting bored at this park (potlucks, picnics, ice cream socials, live music, and MARGARITA NIGHT!) and the people were fantastic. There is a great wood shop with mentored projects and a great crafts program; 2) satisfactory hookups; 3) good WiFi; and 4) very well maintained park. Negatives: 1) we had voltage (power) issues whenever electrical demand increased. A few other RVers with power minders also experienced the same problem, but most RVers did not have this issue. During high demand, our system would shut down (due to low voltage--below 104V) for about 30 seconds every 15 or 20 minutes. It was annoying; 2) rates do not include electricity and it is expensive. Our January electric bill was $125 and our February bill was $140; 3) the water supply has a lot of dissolved minerals. We have a water softener and had to regenerate it about every 5 days; and 4) only the "premium" sites had picnic tables. As upscale as this park is, every site should have a picnic table. In this day and age, almost all decent RV parks provide a picnic table for each site. Bottom line: the positives outweighed the negatives and we would definitely return to this park if we were in the Rio Grande Valley. We camped at Bentsen Palm Village RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Rate based on Monthly rate. If you are staying in Mission this is the best place to stay, period. WiFi was very good, cable limited but good and easy satellite location. Mostly winter Texans staying 3 months so it can be tough to get into. Book Very early. The only negative was there were only 6 lounge chairs at the pool . There are over 200 sites, hello? I highly recommend this park. We camped at Bentsen Palm Village RV Park in a Motorhome.

Rate reflects a 4 month stay. This is a beautiful campground and I would have given them a 10 except they do not supply a picnic table at the site unless you have what they call a 'super site'. At the price of a site, they really should provide a table. We could have put it to good use over the 4 months we were here. Lots and lots of activities happening here with friendly staff and fellow RVers. Big sites, easy to get in/out. Beautifully kept. There is really nothing at all negative about it, except of course for the picnic table. Little thing really, but over the course of 4 months, it's a big thing. We camped at Bentsen Palm Village RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.
