This is a really nice state park. It has two loops that can accommodate big rigs. The sites are large with lots of privacy. There is good Verizon cell service. They have a great swimming area with stairs leading into the water for us old folks. We camped at Lake Bob Sandlin State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

One of our favorite TX state parks. Hiking trails are great, very good job of eliminating most posion ivy. Trails are very good for children and beginning mountain bikers. we camped in 30' TT, 30 amp. . Very good lighted fishing pier. Very good fishing lake w/ 2 other lakes within 30 minute drive. Restrooms were cleaned every morning, spotless. Good variety of size sites. Only drawback was dogs are not allowed in restrooms are fishing pier. We camped at Lake Bob Sandlin State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

Sweet little state park. Paved sites with great space and privacy for most sites. Nice walks, including trail system. I was amazed to see rangers and staff walking the loops picking up trash several times over the period of just one day. Only negative would be that some sites are on the short side and would be difficult for anything longer than 30 or 35 feet. We camped at Lake Bob Sandlin State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

A very nice State Park. Asphalt road ways, concrete pads on all sites (although some of them appeared to be fairly short and/or not that level). Most, if not all sites, had a separate grass pad for tents. Sites also had wooden picnic tables on concrete pads, and metal grated fire pits. Campground has been carved out of the forest so heavily treed. Excellent spacing between sites, our site was very secluded. 30 Amp power worked for us, would have been nice to have 50 Amp (perhaps we selected the wrong loop?). Good water pressure on site as well. One restroom with showers between two loops. One garbage bin per two loops. Only one dumping station (with access for two units/time) for the entire campground. Free firewood available at the front gate (but, the campground did accept donations). Very friendly park staff. Loops were frequently patrolled by staff personnel. Overall, an excellent campground. Would definitely return. We camped at Lake Bob Sandlin State Park in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

The rate does not reflect a required daily entrance fee unless you have a Texas State Park pass. Only a very few of the sites have any sort of water view at all. The campsites in this park are heavily tree covered, good for a hot day. We were lucky enough to be able to find a site with a hole to get satellite. We had very good Verizon data and voice. Most of the sites are not very long or would be very hard to level. The campground is fairly convenient to Mt. Pleasant. We were mainly there to visit friends, so did not explore the park itself very much. We camped at Lake Bob Sandlin State Park in a Motorhome.

As noted with Texas State Parks, you must either have a Park Pass or pay an additional $4 per person daily use fee. The sites varied in length and level grade. We chose a site with some lake view, and used leveling blocks. My RV power monitor noted that only L2 was powered on their 50A receptacle, so we asked the park, to learn that they have never connected 50A service to the sites. So I switched to the 30A plug and had good power even with an internal space heater. It was a fairly quiet campground, even with some large groups of young boys camping on our loop. We did not explore the park very much, taking day trips to Kilgore and to Tyler. We stayed 5 nights and would stay again. We camped at Lake Bob Sandlin State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The East Texas Oil Museum in Kilgore tells the story of the largest oil field in the US. A short distance away is the World's Richest Acre which once held 27 derricks pumping out oil.

This is a quiet, well maintained, and friendly state park. The campsites were clean and appeared to be well maintained. The hiking trails were easy to follow and well marked. There are several places to fish including a trout pond and a fishing pier. The park's staff were very pleasant and helpful. The park is within a large forest of various trees to include hardwoods and many pine trees. The restrooms were particularly well maintained with lots of hot water. The park offers firewood for a small donation. A wonderful park for sure. We camped at Lake Bob Sandlin State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Nice hiking trails, fishing pier, and a general store which is open in the summer months. The small town of Pittsburg is a few miles away with several antique stores and restaurants.

Heavily wooded, almost secluded sites and helpful, friendly staff make this moderately-used park a real gem for those who want peace and quiet. If you are into fishing, there is a good pier and boating facilities. We will go back. We camped at Lake Bob Sandlin State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Note that the rate is only for the campsite. Each adult is $4 additional. Nice place! Some sites have views of the lake or even waterfront. Most are in the forest. Widely spaced, old school campsites but with concrete pads. Verizon works very well here. Check out Vaughan's Catfish Restaurant nearby for dinner too. A great park with shady sites. Concrete pads with picnic tables and fire rings. Large sites with good privacy. Room to spread out. Few sites with water front or water view. Those sites were eroded and needed attention. Day use area away from the camping sites, with a swimming beach. We camped here with kids and a boat and had a great time. Will stay again. We camped at Lake Bob Sandlin State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Gorgeous heavily wooded state park, cement pads, in heavy woods by a large lake. Fort Sherman and Cherokee Trace loops best for larger RVs. Lots of space between sites. Rate includes entry fee. We camped at Lake Bob Sandlin State Park in a Fifth Wheel.
