We joined Thousand Trails at this preserve in the 80's. Our two boys spent many wonderful carefree days here while growing up. We were on site several years and had to abide by strict rules that no longer seem to matter. I doubt there are many more than 30 sites available to those of us passing through. The rest are either taken up by on siters (who have the best ones) or the electric does not work. Those where the electric does work is questionable. It disturbs us greatly to see what has happened to what was and could be a beautiful resort. I don't think the staff there is to blame as much as corporate for not allocating the funds necessary. We will not stay here again. We camped at Lake Tawakoni / Thousand Trails in a Motorhome.

First - most staff are friendly. One staff member does not know the difference between the definitions of ATTACHED and WRAPPED. It is ok to wrap your garbage on the tree, but you cannot wrap your led lights around the tree. Paper states NOT ATTACHED. Family and Adult pools clean. Cons - Many sites closed due to the lack of maintaining the electrical infrastructure. When temps are in the 90's, sites are closed to try and keep A/C voltage in the range 105 Vac. Yes 105 is good, in their opinion. Sites are not cleaned and are in GREAT need of repair. Trees are not trimmed especially over the campers. There are too many trees - 1 in 5 trees could be removed and you would not notice. We camped at Lake Tawakoni / Thousand Trails in a Motorhome.

We reserved a spot for 2 nights. Pleasant greeting when we arrived and said we could drive around and find a site of our choice. There are some sites without sewer but the map they give you will show you which ones don't. Looked like at least 65 or 75% had sewer. Most all the sites along the lake were taken by campers with an annual or longer lease. Most all sites were shaded. There are two pools of which one is adult only. The spa was cold. Recreation rooms were very dated. Restroom were fairly clean and showers had hot water. Our site was level. Most of the roads throughout were in decent shape - seen a lot worse at other Thousand Trails. No grill at our site but did have a picnic table. If you plan to use a satellite for TV chose your site carefully since there are a lot of trees. We camped at Lake Tawakoni / Thousand Trails in a Motorhome.

This is another Thousand Trail park that seems to be geared to the residents that purchase lots there. All lakefront sites are private sites occupied by mostly locals. If there are any sites on the lake they have bad electric and no sewer connections. Most other sites are heavily wooded and not really geared to big rigs. The residents seem to have free reign to do whatever they pleased none of the rules applied lots of large groups on weekends drinking and riding around in golf carts. We observed some promiscuous behavior at the adult pool in the evenings. The adult pool is in an area away from everything so locals use it as a party spot. Sites and roads need a lot of love. Picnic tables falling apart and some of the better sites have signs that they are closed. We are Thousand Trails members so have visited lots of their parks but this one was the most disappointing for us just shows that members are not their top priority. They did have a really nice family pool! We camped at Lake Tawakoni / Thousand Trails in a Motorhome.

The park Is nice looking and at first glance, the park has 2 nice pools (one adult, one family) and a playground for kids, you think it is better than most but while you check in you learn that all of the 50amp and any "good" spots are taken by annual people who from what I could tell most have double lots and and are only there on holidays and some weekends. The person in the camp site across from me used power tools every day and had piles of wood and scrap wood all over his campsite. I noticed the annuals don't have to follow rule, e.i. dogs off leash, not picking up after said dog, driving through my camp site on golf cart, noise after 11:00pm etc. I had no internet and very little cell and paid for there wifi that was not very good either. All in all not a very nice stay. We camped at Lake Tawakoni / Thousand Trails in a Motorhome.

We have been to many camp sites and this is the first bad experience. The manager was very rude and intoxicated. On Saturday we were having problems with our electricity and called the office. We were told they will TRY and get someone out to fix it. Needless to say no one showed up and it was miserable. We have been to the one in Lake Whitney and love it, it was beautiful and very clean. We were considering buying a membership but after this experience we are on the fence on not to. For the price of 48.00 a night and no sewer plus a resort fee is not worth the money going back. We camped at Lake Tawakoni / Thousand Trails in a Travel Trailer.

This is a typical TT park. The usual amenities, a little worn, rough roads, dirt and gravel sites. Lots of annual tenants but neat and tidy. Nice and quiet on a pretty lake. Lots of fishing going on, which seems to be the major draw. The park is remote. Groceries and other basics are 15 minutes away. Stayed during a rainy week and the park is very muddy. The drainage system needs some work. There is some tree trimming and other repairs going on. The staff is very nice. We camped at Lake Tawakoni / Thousand Trails in a Fifth Wheel.

As seems to be the case with many Thousand Trails parks, this park appeared that it had a lot going for it when it was built, but maintenance, particularly of the road surfaces, has been lacking. Check in was easy, we were told to select our own site, and we chose one in section H, near the ranger station. The site was nice, reasonable distance from neighbors, ok surface to the site (may have been asphalt at one time, now mostly gravel). On the second morning, we were watching the water rise in the sites on the road across from us, and saw the rangers coming through to ask us to move as the power would be shut down in section H (and I). Many "permanent" looking RVs were needing to move also. We moved to a site in C - after trying to get into a couple in A where the narrowness of the road and the site, and the instability of the surfaces just off the road, combined to make it very difficult to get our 43' motorhome backed in. The water continued to rise, so two days later, we moved to a site on the main road in A - a much better location.

Price reflects Thousand Trails membership. We camped at Lake Tawakoni / Thousand Trails in a Motorhome.

We chose Lake Tawakoni as the second TT park we stayed at and to take a break from sightseeing and just relax. To say the park is out of the way is an understatement, but that was what we were looking for. Upon arrival, we checked in, got our information and were told to select our own site. We started in one loop, but then decided to head toward one of the lakefront loops. We were told the other lakefront loop was mostly full and that is where the annual units are. Driving through the loop, we found many of the sites were unavailable, signaled by a plastic bag on the utility pole. We found a site, but going into the loop to the right wasn't the correct direction, so my husband had to exit the loop, turn around and come back in going to the left.

We loved our site, it was longer than we needed and very wide. We were right on the lake, so we had room and clear skies to put the satellite out, while still having trees above us. The site looked like it was asphalt at one time, but it hadn't been maintained. The hookups are 30 amp with water and sewer. During our stay we had to reset the breaker and all seemed well, but we had to take our RV for some work and return to the park. When we disconnected the electric our connector had plastic from the outlet melted on it. The power had been working, but we reported it on our way out and it was replaced when we returned. To be safe we purchased a new 50-30 amp plug. We mentioned it to the staff a couple of times, but ours hints for reimbursement were ignored.

Most of the sites, not along the lakes edge, have heavy enough tree cover to prevent satellite use, but there are ones that satellite will work.

There are two pools and a hot tub, along with two community buildings, one for adults only. The pools closed the day after we arrived, but they both looked clean and in relatively good condition.

We ended up staying 8 nights, extended from our original plan of 5. Overall, we enjoyed our stay. We camped at Lake Tawakoni / Thousand Trails in a Fifth Wheel.

The rate reflects TT membership. There is only 30amp service. Some of the sites don't have sewer but they are rare. There is a dump station on site. The roads up to the park and in the park are very bad. I think that is to promote the 5mph speed limit (haha). They did work on the roads one day and I don't know if they are going to continue filling in holes in the rest of the park. There are a majority of sites that have nice shade which was great only being able to use one A/C and triple digit temps. They could do some more to clean up the place. Many spider webs around the buildings. We had quite a few attach to our trailer the 9 days we were here. Also there was a multitude of gnats which were very irritating getting in and out of the unit and cars. There is nothing in the area to do unless you utilize the Lake. The lake level was up which was really nice compared to lake levels in Texas in previous years. I'm not sure that we would be back due to the bugs unless we were just going to hang out. There are several yearly people here but not a large percentage compared to many other TT campgrounds. Our site was relatively level, not "too" close to the next guy and very long. We could get satellite reception for Direct and ATT had very good cell reception. We camped at Lake Tawakoni / Thousand Trails in a Fifth Wheel.

There are some nice lakeside spots at this campground but be aware that the FHU sites in the best lakeside area, section C, are mostly given over to seasonals and annuals. There are, though, a few lakeside sites for those who are okay with water/electric only sites. There are plenty of nice shady FHU sites available in other sections of the campground. I think "section H," in particular, has some nice sites. Those with boats to put in the marina will want to check out "section I" which is nearby. The campground boasts both a nice Family Activity Center with its own pool, small basketball court, and mini-golf and an Adult Activity Center with it's own pool. Our Verizon had a couple of usable bars of 4G and I was able to get 2 of the 3 Dish Network satellites which gave us most of our TV channels, although not all in HD. There are no 50 amp electrical sites in the facility but there are plenty of FHU sites. Thousand Trails is notorious for bad roads and this place is no exception. In this case, it starts before you arrive as County Road 1470 into the campground is just as bad as any of the roads in it. We especially enjoyed the beautiful sunsets over the lake. This Thousand Trails is a reasonably short drive from both I30 and I20 - about an hour east of Dallas. We camped at Lake Tawakoni / Thousand Trails in a Fifth Wheel.

Price reflects Thousand Trails Zone Membership. Stayed for 4 days and park was excellent. Was hunkered down during the ice storms and temperatures dropped in the low 20's We had 30 amp service and it worked great running our space heaters. No sewer at our location, but do not know of others. Great campground and will go back. Very few people there, but the time of year that was expected. We used this camp for an overnight stay on the way home from our summer adventure, and despite being off the main road was well worth the effort and cost savings. Strict speed limits in the park are correct for the agreeably bad road conditions, 5-10 mph is almost too fast in some places. The county road 1470 coming in is not very good either. Don't use MS-Streets and Trips to locate this camp, it'll put you in the middle of a pasture a few miles away from the camp. Take 276 to 47, south on 47 to (big TT sign here) 1470 head west and you'll be fine. We stayed in section 1, plenty of shade, gravel site, almost level, full hookup. New power stanchions at most we saw in this section. The pool was a short bike ride from the campsite and is large and well kept, no slides or diving boards, some shade on the west end. A bit strong on the chlorine, but that's to be expected these days. Bathrooms and showers were well kept and clean. The staff friendly and helpful at checkin. This is an older TT campground, but the fact that the lake still has water makes it better than some others in Texas. We camped at Lake Tawakoni / Thousand Trails in a Fifth Wheel.

Thousand Trails rate. Roads are terrible. County 1470 is rough all the way to the campground guard shack, and interior roads are worse, a lot worse. RV pads have once been improved surfaces but not any longer. The fishing pier is high and dry since the lake is low. Sites are all back-in with lots of room between neighbors, lots of trees and flags/iris. Staff & maintenance people were very friendly and helpful, responded quickly to a power stanchion problem (within minutes), and quickly repaired the issue. The campground is pretty quiet this time of year, and our neighbors were friendly. This is a pleasant campground with lots of space, and there are some waterfront sites. We enjoyed our stay here and will return. We camped at Lake Tawakoni / Thousand Trails in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a membership park that is now also open to the public for a fee. Lots of nice shady sites but many of them are taken up by members with long-term leases. Internet is available ONLY at the Family Center. Pools are nice. Roads desperately need improvement. We are members so did not have to pay. Rate cited is the public fee.
