We liked this campground so much that we returned for a second stay. As mentioned by other reviewers, this is a parking lot format campground that we've seen in other Texas State Parks. The beach on the Gulf is a short walk away or you can drive or bicycle. The beach is really beautiful. The sites have water, electricity, and "shaded" picnic tables. The camp host was very helpful. The nearest grocery stores are 20 minutes away toward Port Aransas or Corpus Christi. Both Port A and CC are worth a visit. Gorgeous Padre Island National Seashore is just 15 minutes away. This campground is hard to get into during the weekends in the Spring, but we found that there are sites available during mid-week. If you buy a Texas State Park annual pass, you get half off your 3rd night stay for several stays, as well as free entry to the park for each day. Our pass paid for itself in no time. When you reserve a campsite online, they charge you for just one night, even if you are reserving for more than one night. We camped at Mustang Island State Park in a Motorhome.

Like other reviewers have mentioned, this is parking lot type camping. The sites are super close together and there is no privacy. Many sites end up being like buddy sites where your outdoor living area is somewhat shared with a neighbor. We were very blessed to get the best site at the park which is site #48. That site is on the end with no neighbor on the outdoor living side so it was wonderful! I don't think we would have enjoyed our stay quite as much if we had been in one of the other sites. You can hear the ocean from the campground, but can't see it. It's a short walk to the beach. We were there for 2 weeks and it was so windy almost the entire time we were there. Padre Island National Seashore is only about 15 minutes south and Port Aransas is about 15 minutes north. It's a great location for visiting both of those areas. Verizon data worked well there, and the check-in staff was very friendly. We camped at Mustang Island State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

facilities were ok, spaces are somewhat close together good 50amp service and water with a dump station at the entrance. 10 minute walk to the beach. It is unfortunate that the employee that checked us in wasn't very friendly and was very abrupt. I gave up asking questions because she acted like she was irritated. Texas state parks should have folks with friendly attitudes to check people in. We will probably go to the national seashore camping area next time. Okay. Now I can say been there, done that. Stayed for 3 nights. Campground is walking distance to the gulf beach, but that's the main asset for this park. Water and electric are shared between sites. We had to pull in to have connections on the right side and site was so narrow that we couldn't open one of the slides. The front of our coach faced the front of our neighbour's. They were never there so no big deal but if they had been a noisy bunch, would have been very disagreeable. If you go, pick even number site on the gulf side. Except for one exception, front office staff are there because they need a job, not because they like being nice to campers. We camped at Mustang Island State Park in a Motorhome.

Sites are side by side, either back-in or drive in. Sandy & somewhat dirty. Sign in staff was rude and had an attitude. Located way out from Port Aransas. If you wanted to extend, you couldn't do it at the office but had to go through the reservation center in Austin. Do NOT arrive after 4:00 and try to pay the next morning and aren't at the office as soon as they open. Your reservations are thrown out of the computer system. We camped at Mustang Island State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Open area campground situated between Texas Highway 361 and Gulf shoreline of Mustang Island. Additional park entry fee of $ 10.00 / day required or purchase of $ 70 annual pass. This entry fee should be waived if camping, as in most other jurisdictions. Staff appear to provide the minimum when asked questions and aren't overly helpful. It's not hard work to be a human being. Site had to be cleaned up of cigarette butts, dog feces and assorted plastics, etc. 50 Amp service at decent quality pedestal including water tap. As other reviewers have noted, it's a short walking distance to beach area and you cannot see the beach and shore from the campground due to the dunes. We camped at Mustang Island State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

As others have mentioned, the sites are laid out in a parking lot manner. The dunes hide the beach but do protect from some of the wind and salt spray. My site had room for me to back my 20' car trailer in without having to disconnect it from my 40' MH. Since I don't come here for the RV park, the lack of amenities is no big deal. My Sprint cell service worked adequately. I love the miles of open beach and enjoy walking with little or no crowds (this is in the winter of course). I feel secure as there are park patrols that drive by regularly. I've visited here a number of times and look forward to returning each year. We camped at Mustang Island State Park in a Motorhome.

The park is essentially an asphalt parking lot with sites down both sides of the lot. It is designed that two RVs would be parked right next to each other sharing the utility area - but the utilities would be on the wrong side of one of them, so you'd potentially need extra hoses/electric cords. The Gulf of Mexico is just on the other side of the dunes, so you get good breezes and it is nice to go over to walk on the beach. There was a covered picnic table for each site - but for one of the pair, it would be on your "off" side (unless you parked backwards, which may be possible for motorhomes but wouldn't be for trailers or 5th wheels). Since we were here during "off" season, it was not crowded, so essentially only one RV was in each paired space which made it comfortable. I think our RV may have been a bit long (43') but there was still plenty of room to drive down the middle road between the RV sites so it was no issue. We camped at Mustang Island State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

We enjoyed driving to Padre National Seashore and taking the Jeep out on a drive down the beach for several miles. There were campsites down there too, and we considered going there, but decided that our rig was too large. There were boondocking spots down the beach, but again, we wouldn't take our heavy rig out onto the sand - with the Jeep, we were glad we had optional 4WD, though we didn't have to use it.

The campground itself is ok. Everything works as it should. 50amp. and water. It's just a big parking lot but convenient to get in and out but the beach is absolutely terrible. Tons of garbage everywhere and nobody seems to care. The employees drive around in trucks and tractors, move a little sand here and there but for sure nobody touches any garbage!!! What a pity. we will never go there again. We camped at Mustang Island State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Large parking lot with spaces down two sides. Close walk (or drive) to the beach. Actually quite a bit closer to Corpus Christi than Port Aransas. If hookups aren't essential for you, I'd suggest the Padre Island National Seashore campground, it's a short drive. Actually closer if you're coming thru Corpus. Cell service was good here, not so good at Padre Island campground. We camped at Mustang Island State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This is the third Texas State Park we've been to and it can't compare with Galveston Island or especially Goose Island. The settings in those two are much nicer. This is basically a parking lot with electric & water sites along the edges. It's close enough to the road that there is a fair amount of road noise and although it is close to the beach there is no view. It's also a weird setup with some of the sites "paired" so that you are very close to your neighbor on one side and then separated by a fairly large section of lawn from the one on the other side. The utilities are also in the back of the site so depending on where your hook ups are located on your rig, you might need an extra hose or extension cord. The washrooms are nothing special, but clean enough. The shower has a shower curtain on it but there is no place private to dry off and get dressed which I know some people find uncomfortable. There is a nice long bench in the main room though. Used my own shower so can't comment on pressure or temperature. There is supposedly wi-fi but it didn't work at all for us. Verizon signal was strong, though. I think if I came back again I would just go unhooked and dry camp down at the Padre Island National Seashore. The campgrounds there seemed nicer and dirt cheap and the "Bird Basin" one in particular is right on the bay with a great view. We camped at Mustang Island State Park in a Truck Camper.

There are limited sites here, so reservations are crucial, especially in peak times of the year. All spots are within walking distance of the beach, but the beach area itself also has a parking lot. Water & 30/50-amp electricity is available. Like most state parks, there are no sewer hook-ups at individual sites, but there is a two-direction sewer dump at the entrance to the park. The park headquarters features a parking lot that's big enough to turn around in. The park has a junior ranger program available for the kids, in which they loan out a backpack full of gear. We camped at Mustang Island State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

If you're headed to the beach from the RV sites, take a left at the stop sign and follow the road around. It opens up to a beach where vehicles are allowed. Follow the beach north for a quarter mile or so and park. There are two big granite jetties sticking out into the water. The sand between them affords you more privacy than just going to the regular beach area.

Park was hit by Tropical storm Bill week prior. All sites closest to the beach (Water Electric) had 6 inches to a foot of water in them. Many of these had the large trailer and 5th wheel campers. We had our spot across from these and had no water. Park is bare bones minimum. Has a sign showing kids playing on a see-saw but no playground. Beach was nice and the parking for the beach still had flood waters in it. Super windy, around 20 mph or higher all the time. Hard to sleep at night with camper whipping and buffeting all night. Unsure if this is how it is all the time. Sites are set up very unusual. One large parking for two campers side by side but one person has to exit their camper and walk around to picnic grill, table area. Unsure why they set it up this way. Park had 5 park hosts but I didn't see them do anything like other state parks. Wife said we would probably not return. We camped at Mustang Island State Park in a Tent Trailer.
