Overall Rating:

We had originally planned to stay at this campsite for only one night, but we liked it so much that we stayed for three. In the first week of May, most sites were empty, so our closest neighbor was four sites away. It is very close to the ocean and also very close to a bird sanctuary, so you hear surf and chirping birds continuously. The beach was completely empty except for some fishermen out on the long jetty. There are many sheltered picnic areas and a number of boardwalks. The washrooms were a bit rustic, but they were clean and satisfactory. WiFi reception was excellent. There was no cable, but we had excellent air reception for quite a few channels. We would most definitely return to this campground. We camped at Quintana Beach County Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

We walked along the Jetty on the eastern tip of the park and saw dolphins, a variety of birds and large ships in the Freeport Harbor Channel. We were also able to purchase some reasonably-priced seafood at the nearby Captain Mark's Seafood, 603 W 2nd Street, Freeport.

Have stayed here for the last 2 Thanksgivings. Nice park and you can watch the large ships going in and out of the port. The beach area is nice. Lots of places to walk along. The only downfall is they charge a service fee if you use a credit card vs cash. We camped at Quintana Beach County Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This is a pretty municipal park at the end of a tiny one-road town. To the east are dunes and the lovely Gulf of Mexico and to the west is an enormous LNG plant that dominates the horizon. It is unsettling to see this kind of industrialization from your window. However, you get used to it. The beach is advertised as "natural", which means that they don't clean up the seaweed that washes up. That doesn't bother us. There is a jetty and a harbor channel that huge tanker ships use to take raw materials to the plant. It was fun watching the ships come and go. We did not experience any problem with the mosquitoes (it was windy while we were there), but the staff make jokes and have t-shirts about it. The office has resident cats that were covered with fleas. The staff didn't seem to concerned about that. The grackles were "nesting" while we were there, so they were calling, clucking and shrieking while tap dancing on our roof. We thought that was pretty fun stuff. Our campsite was level and the utilities were easy to use. We camped at Quintana Beach County Park in a Motorhome.

We have returned to this park numerous times. We have family in the area and even though this is not the closest park, we love it here. The staff and park hosts cannot be beat. They bend over backwards to make your stay enjoyable. We love being just a short walk to the beach. While we have not used the shower facilities and laundry, they always look very clean and well kept. We camped at Quintana Beach County Park in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: November, 2016 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

Yes, there were mosquitoes but not bad. Another guest told me the place had been sprayed and the critters were much reduced. I suppose being there in November would make a difference as well. In any case, repellent before you go outside would be helpful. All that being said, I absolutely loved this park. Stayed for about a week and would have liked to stay longer. It is easy access from the highway, the sites are spacious and level and utilities easy to access. Park Wifi was good as was my Verizon. Would note that the sewer was in the wrong spot for a motor home with a towed vehicle--unless you disconnect right away. I waited until I was ready to leave to position my rig to reach the sewer and dump. Only complaint was the view from the campground itself--Freeport LNG plant is right next door and in addition to the ghastly structures, they have bright lights on all night. The lights did not affect my spot but they were an eyesore going outside at night.

A nice walk on the boardwalk to the beach which was pristine--relatively speaking--and nary another soul could be seen--November seems to be a good time to be there. Take along a plastic bag (they are provided at the park office if you wish) and pick up the small pieces of plastic and Styrofoam that wash up on the beach--you just might save some wildlife. We camped at Quintana Beach County Park in a Motorhome.

Couple of places to eat at Surfside Beach: Red Snapper Inn and Kitty's Purple Cow, and grocery shopping in Freeport. If you recycle, the city of Freeport will take your recyclables at their facility.

Price based on monthly rate. I've been here several times including one bad experience, and low rating, due to mosquitos. It's been better each visit since then. They've done a lot of work in the last year. Most of the deck around the office and picnic area had been replaced. New nature center is almost complete. Lots of new roofs, siding and general upkeep to buildings around the park. It looks like they are making a real effort to fix the place up. There's still more to do though. We camped at Quintana Beach County Park in a Fifth Wheel.

I gave this campground a rather negative review a couple years ago after a truly horrible experience with mosquitos. I planned on never returning but due to circumstances beyond my control I did and that was fortunate. They have really stepped up their mosquito control efforts. Regular spraying from both the air and ground have had a noticeable positive effect. After a rainy day they are still around but not in nearly the numbers of my previous visit and entirely manageable with a little "Off". We camped at Quintana Beach County Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

July 4th week was when we visited so I am unsure if this park is always this way. We arrived and the staff was very polite. Site was level, but at a 90 degree angle instead of 30 degree. Picnic table at site was extremely warped. Beach was nice, and it was neat to see the wildlife of the area. Language from fellow campers was not family friendly. People didn't use leashes for dogs. People partied till 1 am even though quiet time was at 10 pm. Park has a stray chow that runs around and marks territory (doing its business) in everyone's site. When I asked some of the staff about the dog and complained about it, they laughed. Being drunk was the priority of many of the campers. Probably will seek alternative location for next beach trip. We camped at Quintana Beach County Park in a Tent Trailer.

We love this park. All of the people who work here are very friendly. The park is very clean and the sites are well taken care of. They have done a lot of work to improve the place in the past few years. Texas beaches are infamous for the abundance of seaweed. They do a very good job of keeping the beaches clean at Quintana. Nice family beach park with a boardwalk from the campsites to the beach. Plenty to keep the kids occupied. Not many amenities close by other than a Bucky's, but Lake Jackson has everything one could need. We camped at Quintana Beach County Park in a Travel Trailer.

Best park on the beach. There is a fishing pier on the Gulf and a jetty also for fishing. There is a gated entry and you need a code for entry into the bathhouse. Historic homes are on site. There are sports equipment that can be checked out by guests. They also have group areas and cabins facing the beach. We camped at Quintana Beach County Park in a Tent.

Overall Rating:

The campground is in a nice location relative to the beach, close enough for easy access but far enough that the wind isn't bad. The Wi-Fi is free but slow and unreliable. The website and my confirmation both said 30A but my site (36) and several others had 50A. In general the whole place needs some maintenance. Strong Verizon signal. Shopping and services aren't too far away. With all of that I probably would give it a 6 or 7. However, whether its a temporary condition or normal, the mosquito infestation was absolutely intolerable. I've never had so many bites at once in my life. I gave up on a swatter inside and used the vacuum cleaner. The price is based on the monthly rate but I spent most of it inside trying to hide from the mosquitos. I won't be back. We camped at Quintana Beach County Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Date of Stay: April, 2011 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

This was our second stay in this county park. As far as most county parks that we have stayed in this was a nice park. The park is at least 30 years old and age is showing. There is an incredible amount of decking with pavilions, etc, that provide easy access to the gulf, but you need to watch for nail heads, splinters (for which they have signs) and partial boards. They have starting repairing the decking, as it is very weathered with many broken boards. There are lots of recreation areas for day visitors as well as campers. The spaces are paved with a patio and most have a picnic table and fire pit. The area is grassy, but our dogs required extensive brushing to remove the burrs. There are a number of palm trees, but the provide minimal shade. From observation, the showers must be in poor condition based upon the condition of outside showers. During the winter months, especially during the week, day visitors are nearly non-existent. The hosts stated that in the summer and on holidays the park can be full. Some of the back in spaces are quite short. Some pull thrus would accommodate a a big rig with barely rum for popups or Scamps. Some TV reception over the air is possible from Houston stations. In the off season it is a very pleasant place to stay. We will go back but not on weekend. The closest real grocery store is an old renamed Kroger on the Angleton Highway about 5 miles. There are a number of chemical plants adjacent, but with the exception of a noon horn, they make little impact. Periodically, large tankers can be seen passing to and from the Gulf less than 500 yards away. We camped at Quintana Beach County Park in a Travel Trailer.
