What an amazing place. Beautiful hiking trails, the wildlife is abundant. Campsites are pretty large, and most have a sun shelter over the picnic table. Hard to believe I thought this place is just as good, or better than it's big brother Palo Duro Canyon. We camped at Caprock Canyons State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Make sure you hike the Upper canyon and Lower Canyon loop in the park (if you feel you can do it). It takes about 4 hours at a leisure pace, probably 9 miles or so. Great scenery. There's a gas station that has limited groceries/beer/other beverages about 2 miles south of the park. Also, check out Texas Hwy 207 north of Silverton to see the eastern side of Palo Duro Canyon.

Great park! Lots of trails to hike... enjoyed our bike ride out to an old train tunnel. Didn't see any bats though... Lots of wild animals... saw the bison, coyotes, prairie dogs, and a road runner. The sandwich shop near the entrance makes really good sandwiches! The only negative is the large number of sand burrs (stickers) that get in the dog's feet. We camped at Caprock Canyons State Park in a Motorhome.

We called on the fly while driving up from Big Bend and reserved two nights. The office said they had only one space left (didn't say which) and would tape our site number and pass to the door since we were coming in late. Didn't happen. We drove through and saw many open spaces, and chose one. It was very private with great spacing and vegetation separating sites. In the morning a park ranger stopped and gave us our vehicle pass. He said no need to go to the park office. After a hike that afternoon another park ranger stopped us and asked why we had not checked in at the office. He was unmoved by my explanation of what the guy had told me that morning. At the office I was mildly chastised for not coming in and the explanation carried no sway with the lady. Seemed like a whole lot of unnecessary confusion. Still, it is a great park and the hiking is absolutely fantastic. Watch out for the buffalo. They roam everywhere and think they own the roads. We camped at Caprock Canyons State Park in a Travel Trailer.

In my experience Texas State parks are about the nicest places to camp anywhere. Caprock Canyon has very pretty, fairly private campsites, the utilities were good and in good repair. I'll return. There was no sewer connection at the site, but that's a plus for me; for a less than a week stay I'd rather use the dump station. Room for improvement? A hose bib at the dump station for my black water rinse and better wifi. We camped at Caprock Canyons State Park in a Travel Trailer.

The Caprock Canyon Trailway (rail to trail conversion) is a great treat for bicyclists. Parts are well groomed enough for road bikes, other parts are rough enough to want a fat bike.

Excellent state park with lots of wildlife. Watch out for the Bison in the campground and near the restroom/showers. They and their scat are all over but not much of a problem if you stay aware. Coyotes around so do not leave pets or kids unattended. Only two trash stations, one near the showers, the other at the dump station. Well marked trails. We did see one rattlesnake in the 7 days we were there. We camped at Caprock Canyons State Park in a Motorhome.

Rate reflects TSPP discount for entry fee. Beautiful park, RV camping is on the canyon rim. Sites are mostly level, some 30A, some 50A. Power was steady, a few outages during wind and a strong thunderstorm, but it came back on quickly. Water pressure was good at 60PSI. There is a dump located outside the camping loop. Sites are generously spaced and allow privacy and quiet. There is a large herd of free range bison on this park. They wander the roads, trails and camping areas. Plenty of birds to watch. Trails are very nice, lake is a no-motor so it stays peaceful and quiet. Check-in was friendly and informative, nice gift store. We had Verizon internet, but no cel service. We would camp here again. We camped at Caprock Canyons State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Visit the town of Turkey, 10 miles east of town. Western swing and country music star Bob Wills hometown...friendly little town, nice museum for Bob Wills, but open M-F only as its in the city services building. Awesome old style store on Main St, Lacy's Dry Goods. Nice BBQ place on main street. Quitique has nice museum also, Comanchero Museum, great history of the local area. Visit Dad's BBQ in Quitque.

This is one of our favorite parks in Texas. Gorgeous red rock canyons. Bison herds roaming around campsites and a prairie dog village. Star gazing is perfect and lovely sunsets. First two nights in Wild Horse overflow camping. Lovely spot, no services. Next 3 nights in Honey Flats with water and electric. Park WiFi is good. AT&T is good. Verizon not. OTA tv gets everything but CBS. We camped at Caprock Canyons State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Great hiking trails. Give bison lots of room. Lots of new calves this tume of year so don't want to anger Mama. If camping in Texas Think about getting Texas State Park Pass for discounted stays and waiving of entrance fee of $3-$5 per person per day. This is in addition to camping fee. Pays for itself pretty quickly.

Beautiful, large sites, many offering privacy, especially the outer part of the loop. Lots of bison droppings everywhere, and even the chance to see a bison on your site. And just outside the loop there's a prairie dog town. Great hiking trails, okay showers, and surprisingly good wifi. We camped at Caprock Canyons State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The bison have free range, so driving around you're almost guaranteed to see some. Hiking is great, but even if you just drive around the park you'll see great views. IF you do hike, some of the trails aren't as well marked as they could be, but are generally easy to follow.

The park is an ok state park. We have stayed at many Texas state parks and this one is not one of the better ones as far as the campsites are concerned. They are good, just not great. The canyon is beautiful. The buffaloes are awesome. But I will warn you that if you visit not too long after a rain you will be fighting the flies. They are big and they bite! Bug spray won't help either according to the park rangers - they attack by sight not smell. Yikes. And one other recommendation- don't come in the summer - our first visit was in August and we decided to leave early because it was unbearably hot. We camped in the Honey Flat camping area and it was very nice. We had some issues with red ants but otherwise the camping area was nice. The shower house was satisfactory - lots of hair in the showers but didn't keep me from taking a shower. We were disappointed when getting ready to dump at the dump station - the hose was broke and we couldn't find another dump station. It seems like it would be an easy thing to keep repaired. So - lesson learned - call to check that out beforehand. Otherwise - a fun place to take kids and we'll go again. We camped at Caprock Canyons State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Stayed at the Honey Flat campground. Pads were level and not tightly spaced. Most have decent shade with a covered picnic table. Wifi was spotty, AT&T cellular was decent, Verizon practically non-existent. Much to our surprise over-the-air TV reception was very good.

Bison were in and around the campground all weekend which was interesting (lots of bison patties). Saw a decent sized rattlesnake on the Upper Canyon trail so be careful. We camped at Caprock Canyons State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Lovely TX St Pk, with beautiful trails down in the red rock canyon. but unlike Palo Duro, the RV camping is up on the plains and you cannot see the canyon from the camping area. Sites are large and fairly level with mesquite and other vegetation providing reasonable privacy. Windy up on the plains. The buffalo (bison) do roam freely including in the camping area, but were fun, not a problem; however, keep your distance- they are wild. There is a reasonable size full service grocery store in town. Maybe WiFi was available near the bathrooms (others report) but not at the ends of the loop. Also, if you need public restrooms, request one near because they are not very well located to most camp sites. Use TX St Pk pass to get 50% off 2nd night and cover daily fees. Another beautiful red rock Texas State Park with extraordinary scenery & a free ranging bison herd. Really enjoyed our stay here, excellent hiking trails, particularly the Eagle Point Trail, look for the natural bridge under the trail, fun to climb through! Great campsite with native vegetation around campsites to make more private. Campground had WiFi but only the sites near the restrooms could get a signal from their RVs. Cell service was sketchy too. $4 per person per day entrance fee in addition to camping fees. Texas Parks Pass entitles visitors to free entrance plus discount on 4 two-day camping visits. I agree with most of the comments of the last few reviewers. Spectacular scenery, great hiking, good sites, plentiful wildlife. I had a friendly ranger check in experience. The only negative for me was no Verizon cell service. However, the park has decent Wi-Fi albeit slow. The park features some special events, e.g. I went for a free night photo workshop, which was very well done. Also, there was a dutch oven cooking demonstration and other activities. I hope to return often. A great state park. We camped at Caprock Canyons State Park in a Motorhome.

Bring what you are going to need as there is very little in the near by town of Quitaque, although there is a handy convenience store, small café (steak fingers were good), and small grocery.
