Oh my god, the mosquitoes! I've never seen so many in my life and I live in Central Texas where we have plenty of them. Even with bug spray, they just don't care. We have a folding camper, so it was a big issue, but I guess regular RVs wouldn't care so much. The other main issue with this park is that it's on an inland area, so if you thought it was going to be next to the beach, you're wrong. (Mustang island is still closed, so we thought this would be similar, but it is not). It's not facing the sea. The loops and turns are impossible to navigate and don't make any sense when you're trying to find your site. We ended up leaving early and just getting a $12 beach permit nearby dry-camping directly on the beach. No mosquitoes there. =) We camped at Goose Island State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed in the wooded part (30 amp only) and absolutely loved it. Sites were very spacious and campfires are allowed in that area. Shower house is dated, but clean and the water pressure was phenomenal! This is definitely on our return list. Nightly rate does not include the $5/person/day use fee. Texas State park passes available for $70/year up to 15 people in your vehicle. We camped at Goose Island State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Texas State parks are a great bang for the buck. We stayed in the wooded area and were very pleased with size of site, bathroom facilities, and overall all features of the park.

We had "Bird Hosts" 2 spots down from us who invited all to sit in their site anytime to watch the activity at their feeders. We took two birds walks with the park hosts that were most informative.

The sites next to the water looked nice but we were warned about all the salt spray on your unit. Had decent Verizon LTE service and got a shot to satellites with our Tailgater. Will definitely return to this park. We camped at Goose Island State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We had a wooded site which was all that was available. $18 for wooded, $22 for Bayfront. Have stayed here before in the Bayfront sites and preferred them. Typical TX State Park where if you don't arrive early you get the leftovers. Ours had a big power pole in the back, very private on the sides. Lots of birdwatching opportunities. Utilities worked well, good satellite openings, Verizon reception ok. Would rate higher if you knew what your site was going to be like before arriving. They really need to change their system. Picnic tables need to be replaced. We camped at Goose Island State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

We spent 8 nights in the Bayside Loop at Goose Island State Park. These sites are mere steps from water of Aransas Bay. We had reservations and when we arrived at the park were told which sites were available, and we were able to select our site after driving through the campground. Sunsets were wonderful. Great location for fishing, kayaking, and birdwatching. Quite an isolated location. About 10 mile drive into Rockport across the LBJ Bridge for shopping and restaurants. Sites are gravel and seashells and there is grass between sites and the water. Nice covered picnic tables and grills at each site. We pulled into our site for the best views from our motorhome, which meant we need to dig out extra electrical cord and water hose for hookups (25' was just a bit too short). We did need 2 blocks to get level as our site was slightly domed. There is a boat launch on the road to Bayside Loop. The duck hunters often launched their airboats about 5:15 am from behind the campground. A bit loud, but fun to watch them return later in the day. Bathrooms are older, but cleaned daily and in good working order. However, not heated, which was an issue several chilly days. We camped at Goose Island State Park in a Motorhome.

We were here a year ago and loved the bayside sites. Came back this year and still love it but unfortunately discovered that they were totally booked for the following week and a half so could only stay one night. Still one of my favorite places after 20 months on the road. Each bayside site is right along the seawall and has E & W and a concrete picnic shelter and also a grill. There is a dump station so take care of that on the way in and/or out. Lots of great birdwatching and the fishing is free (no license required) as long as you stay in the park and don't wade. The showers are in completely private separate rooms. Utilitarian but clean with good pressure and plenty of hot water. There is a divider between the stall and a small changing area with a seat. There is wi-fi but it didn't work worth a darn. Strong Verizon signal though. We may even wait out the Thanksgiving holiday week and weekend so that we can go back for a longer stay again this year! We camped at Goose Island State Park in a Truck Camper.

We loved this place! We parked our fifth wheel on a bayfront site (water/50 amp electric) 40 feet from the Gulf of Mexico and enjoyed the constant gulf breezes which eliminates the mosquito issue noted in the wooded area. Sunsets here were glorious for the three days we stayed. There is virtually no shade on the bayfront however each site has a covered cement patio, picnic table, and grill so we spent most of our time outdoors enjoying the weather. If you enjoy the "Salt Life" give this place a try. We camped at Goose Island State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Lots of birding and fishing here on the gulf. We also saw several deer each day on the road into the campground. We saw one raccoon late at night near the dumpster and some prints on the back bumper of the pickup, so do not leave food/trash outside.
Lastly, be sure to visit The Big Tree, it's magnificent!

Windy, sunny, very windy. Once we realized which was to position our MH (facing front to the bay with the shelter to our right) we really enjoyed our 2 night stay and were able to sit outside enjoying the sun and the waves without being blown away. It was fun to watch the pelicans and herons waiting at the fish cleaning station for a treat. We walked around part of the wooded camping area and were surprised to see that many sites could, and did, accommodate large MHs. I could have enjoyed staying in that area also (no wind) We camped at Goose Island State Park in a Motorhome.

This is a wonderful, quiet and lovely park. You can choose between windy, full sun bay side spots or the wooded, shady sites. The bay spots are in full sun but have shelters and are fairly close to each other. The wooded spots are mostly shaded by wonderful oak trees and most are very spacious. Electric and water only. Our $28 fee included a basic fee of $18 plus a $5.00 per person per day fee. We rode bikes all around the area, saw birds of all kinds, including Whooping Cranes. We loved staying here. The park is just a few miles from Fulton and Rockport...plenty of gas stations, grocery stores, etc.
we really enjoyed riding our bikes down to see the 1000 year old oak tree and then around St Charles Bay and exploring the local neighborhoods, including the luxurious community being built, The Reserve.

Great park! We stayed on the bay/ocean side and it was great. However - when we were here it was cold and windy, so actually would have preferred the sheltered sites in the woods - but that wasn't anyone's fault. Really loved the walking/hiking trails and also went on our bike to the Big Tree etc., and saw the whooping cranes near Big Tree. Fishing at the pier was fun too. Great park, great people would definitely stay here again! We camped at Goose Island State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We camped at Goose Island State Park near Rockport, TX in site 152 Wooded Area with 30A electric and water service. Our site was very private. The Bayside sites have great views of the ocean, but no privacy. The sites in the Wooded Area are great, but can be a challenge backing in with large RV's, ours is a 37' 5th wheel. The office can suggest appropriate sites. Great park, definitely check it out. We camped at Goose Island State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a pretty awesome park. It's just electric and water hookups like most state parks, and there's a dump station. The wooded sites are very nice and afford a lot of privacy, but, for us, the bayfront sites can't be beat! You are right on the water and the view is amazing. AND, you can fish for free without a license as long as you stay on the park land and don't wade. (Kind of makes up for the rip-off daily per person fee they charge on top of the camping fee. Don't get me started on that!!) Didn't really see anyone catch any fish, although some said they'd had luck a few days earlier, but it'd be great for kids who like to fish. The birding is good too. There are wetlands all around the camping peninsula. There are shower/restroom buildings in both the north and south bayside camps. We were in the north camp. The restroom were basic, but clean. The showers are each in a separate room with a partition in the middle separating the shower from the changing area. There is a bench and hooks. The pressure was great and lots of hot water. Only thing I didn't like is that unless you point the shower head straight down it sprays toward the front and water runs into the changing area where there is no drain so it makes a big puddle. Really poor design. Except for that, though, they are fine. They actually have wi-fi although it worked well only sporadically. Verizon worked fine though. We would definitely come back. We camped at Goose Island State Park in a Truck Camper.

Tips for other Campers:

We used this park as a base to explore the Aransas Wildlife Refuge. It's close, but a pretty long drive around to access it, but it's worth it. We saw our birding holy grail, Whooping Cranes! But we saw lots of other birds too: just about every heron and egret in the book plus roseate spoonbills, sandhill cranes, and wild hogs, dolphins, deer, and gators. There is a small daily fee for the refuge, but it's free to holders of a Federal Senior Pass. Nice visitors center and gift shop too.

This is one of my favorite Texas Parks and Wildlife campgrounds. I have stayed here in all seasons, from tent/bicycle camping to a Class A motorhome. You can either be right next to the bay water or in the woods under trees. Park had WiFi but given the geography it can be spotty. But for walking, fishing, boat launching and generally goofing off it remains my favorite. We camped at Goose Island State Park in a Motorhome.
