Union Grove is a very nice park by Lake Stillhouse. I have a close connection to this lake, growing up in the area and seeing the construction of it as a kid in '66. It makes me feel good on a personal level to see the lake and park being well maintained. It's a nice park to getaway to, but expect to see the glow of lights at night from the local communities of Killeen/Harker Heights and Temple/Belton. The lake offers plenty of shoreline to fish from and a beach for the kids. One inconvenience was that the toilet paper in the women's restroom was not restocked on our 2nd day there until the next day. We camped at Union Grove COE in a Tent Trailer.

A hidden gem, like many COE's. Right on beautiful lake, within 5-10 miles of excellent shopping and food options. Park itself is very secluded, with locked gate only accessible by passcode after 10 PM. Sites very well spaced, very clean, and easily accessible. Site had BBQ, covered picnic table. Access road is paved as well. For the price, this is one of the very best bargains out there. We camped at Union Grove COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Just 50 miles from Austin. Must see is LBJ Museum at University of Texas. Great president whose achievements are well archived and presented there. There is handicapped parking available, but museum entrance is 3-400 ft. from parking area. The area surrounding the campground is in the country, yet close to shopping and food.

We were very impressed on the overall campground. It was extremely clean, well kept and the bathrooms were spotless. Even with Spring Break having the park at 100% capacity we did not feel crowded. Lots of space between the sites. We stayed in site #6 which was a pull thru, but was tight for our 34' 6" fifth wheel and truck. Lovely views of the lake, quite and restful. We would stay again. Shopping only 20 minutes away. We camped at Union Grove COE in a Fifth Wheel.

This park is on the South Side of Stillhouse Hollow Lake, near Salado TX. The park is nice park with most sited directly facing the lake. The lake has water and it is high enough to actually use the lake, which in Texas is not always the case. The park has no shade for the RV so if you don't like the heat or your AC to run all the time don't come here in the summer. The site was stayed at had a nice breeze, making it very nice to sit outside and relax. The sites we nicely spaced and all had a picnic table, fire pit, BBQ grill and pergola over the picnic table. Our dogs did not pick up any burs; they were on leashes so they did not stray into the tall grass or woody areas. You may also want to check out the sister park Dana Peak. We camped at Union Grove COE in a Motorhome.

This is another excellent COE park and the senior price makes it outstanding. The blind back-in site was large and spacious backing up to the lake. Roads are paved and is the site. No trees so the rooftop dish worked as did the 50a and water. No sewer but 1 dump station. Verizon cell and hotspot worked well. Dark at night and very peaceful. The staff had our reservation and check-in was easy, but like a government function a little long. We camped at Union Grove COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

If you like German food visit The Schnitzel Hut in Harker Heights less than 10 miles away. The best schnitzel we have found in 10 years on the road. We return here annually. A very small place but very big quality.

Stayed in a small pull-thru site, fairly level, and overlooking the lake. Good 30-amp service.
Very quiet campground. Just a short hike up the hill to well kept restroom / shower.
Site number was hard to find, they are posted on the small covered picnic table. We camped at Union Grove COE in a Travel Trailer.

This park is very nice and neat as a pin. It has a mix of pull-thru and back-in sites on the south side of Stillhouse Hollow Lake. (Note that Dana Peak COE is right across on the north side of the lake in case Union Grove is full.) Our site was maybe 50 ft from the water.

This is a boating lake rather than a "swim from shore" lake since there is a rocky bank all around except for the designated gravel beach access, so keep that in mind if you expect to swim with kids. Multiple bathrooms with showers are sprinkled around the park. All the ones we visited were modern and clean. The kids enjoyed fishing at the pier one evening and had great success.

No wifi, but AT&T had full bars of LTE service. We got a half dozen or so channels over the air. Sites are right on the lake so there's no shade. Deer are plentiful so stay tuned especially at night.

We would certainly visit again---especially with friends who have a boat to most fully enjoy the lake. We camped at Union Grove COE in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Eat at The Shed in Salado. The hamburgers, pork nachos, and pizzas were all terrific!

This park is conveniently located about 10-15 mins from I-35 at Salado, TX which is a nice little town with some shops, food, etc. and an excellent cold, clear, spring fed creek great for swimming and picnicking right in the heart of town. Abundant retail stores can be found if you go around the north side of the lake maybe 10 mins to Harker Heights, TX.

Spent 2 nights here. 50a and water worked well, water pressure was 90 pounds. Dump station on slight slant. Paved roads and back-in site. LOTS of room between sites as expected at COE parks. Verizon cell and hotspot worked well. Site had a good downward slope toward lake when entering but leveled out pretty good once in the site. No trees nearby so rooftop dish worked well. Covered picnic table, fire pit nearby. Peaceful & quiet. We camped at Union Grove COE in a Fifth Wheel.

We loved staying at this park! We were right at the water, visited by deer and ducks. The sites are level with well maintained picnic area. It is between Salado and Harker Heights/Kileen, convenient to shopping and services. Proximity to Kileen means Ft. Hood noise, which we got used to, but some might not. The park had very light traffic in January and we enjoyed our stay. We camped at Union Grove COE in a Motorhome.

This is a Corps of Engineers campground on Stillhouse Hollow Lake. Most sites are on the water. Sites are well separated with large covered picnic shelters. Good roads. Do not turn on Union Grove Ln (dead-end road). Turn on the good paved Union Grove Park Road. We camped at Union Grove COE in a Fifth Wheel.
