Daily rate was for a first timer 30-day stay. Electricity was $3.30 per day above the daily rate. Fun-N-Sun is the oldest of the 10 Encore parks between McAllen and Brownsville. During our stay, we made a day trip to visit the other 9 Encore parks and found that each had their own attraction. Fun-N-Sun is definitely an active park with activities that should meet everyone's expectations. I won't begin to identify the activities but instead would encourage anyone interested to go to their website for more information. If there is one disadvantage with this park it would have to be the narrow streets which aren't in the best condition. One other note to add, I'd estimate that 50% of the park are 'park models' and for the most part are in segregated areas, however there are still many that are intermingled with RV's. We made our reservations for 3 months in 2018 before we departed. We camped at Fun-N-Sun RV Resort in a Motorhome.

We stayed at Fun-N-Sun because friends were there and had recommended it. There are a LOT of activities, so if you're bored it's your own fault. It's not our normal cup of tea, as we prefer the outdoors and good motorcycle roads, but after spending the winter getting ready to full-time and selling the house, we were SO done with the cold. This resort was a good way to relax and get used to the slower pace that retirement and full-timing requires, and the warmth was mostly welcome. It did get a bit muggy earlier than normal this year (we heard), so March was 80+ almost every day, and sometimes pushing 90s. Everyone we encountered was super-friendly, from the staff to the guests to the people who live there year-round. You can't ask for a nicer bunch to hang around with. Our site was selected after we spent the first night in the overflow area (we arrived after the office had closed, and the site they had assigned was WAY too tight), which was nice and had full hookups and a lawn. When we found the site we'd fit in, we took up most of a back-to-back site, and were able to pull through since the other side was empty (and stayed that way). The site was dirt and grass, and of course there were ants everywhere, so we couldn't put down our mat - we tried that, it rained, and when we picked it up one corner was swarming with them! Yikes! We were told they were fire ants, so we were careful to avoid their hills after that. The park has live music every Friday during the "season", and one of the largest dance floors in Texas. We had a great time, and hope to return next winter for a couple weeks. We camped at Fun-N-Sun RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

The roads in the park leading to the sites are narrow, and it seems they like it that way. The main roads are fine, and you just need to make sure you'll fit in the site they give you. The history in this part of Texas is fascinating - don't miss a chance to learn about it while you're there, it's well worth it. And go to the movies in Harlingen - they've got a senior special on Mondays that's almost cheaper than renting!

Had a reservation setup with another rv resort and upon arrival was told our spot was 50' long. We have a 45' class a pulling a 19' transport with a car on it (we told them this when we booked it). They told us their hands were tied because we were Thousand Trails and not Encore. We waited 2 days and found Fun N Sun and upon arrival were treated like we were special family members. They said they would do whatever they needed to do to accomodate us. Everyone here (staff and park attendees) are extremely helpfull and friendly. We have been here 3 weeks of our 3 month stay and are so happy we found this place. If you can't find something to do here that works for you they may be able to start a new activity that suits you! We camped at Fun-N-Sun RV Resort in a Motorhome.

$10 includes metered electric, our promotional rate for a month was $7/night. Yes its old and developed before RVs got big and heavy. Narrow roads, and smaller grass sites (with a few exceptions) and its flat South Texas, so drainage isn't great. I can see where reviews would definitely be affected by how much moisture there is. We were fortunate in sunny South Texas living up to its name. But its an incredibly friendly park (including staff), and the quantity, quality and diversity of activities is amazing. If you can get beyond the age of the buildings in which activities are housed, most we saw (fitness, sewing, woodshop, stained glass, lapidary, silversmith billiards, etc etc etc) seemed very well equipped and supported by participation, volunteer leaders and management. So a 9 for that.

Now why in the world they aren't putting in concrete slabs faster (or even graveled) I don't know. Its inexpensive and they get a 16% or so premium for the ones they have. I can deal with narrow roads but sinking into dirt is a real problem. So a 5 for the site and 8 overall (no doubt that would have been different if I'd had to put off departure or be towed out). We camped at Fun-N-Sun RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Was put in the overflow parking lot because they just had significant rains and the sites are grass. Overflow had full hookups and a paved lot which was nicer than the sites. Stayed 3 nights and will stay again for a overnight . Regular sites pretty narrow with 1 lane roads, you either have to wait or pull off in grass to pass. We camped at Fun-N-Sun RV Resort in a Truck Camper.

Park is intended for snowbirds (Winter Texans) and permanent residents. If this is your retirement model or expectation then this park would probably be a great place to stay. Compared with other Encore Parks in the area this park is at best average or less. There are plenty of organized activities for senior adults and most of the facilities appeared to be maintained. Rate reflects Encore discount for 2 weeks. Would definitely not stay at this park again. We camped at Fun-N-Sun RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed here for 4 months until April 10, 2011. The roads are narrow and the campsites are not huge. This campground's most enduring quality is the people it attracts for the winter season. It is a hubbub of activity, with all sorts of enrichment programs...art classes, dance lessons, tennis lessons, pool volleyball, just to name a few. It would be a shame to just stay one night and not take part in all that the park has to offer. We camped at Fun-N-Sun RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Very friendly staff. We did get an escort to our site. This is a must. The rate is Passport America. The plus is there are many, many activities, etc. The roads are very, very narrow. Two cars had to be moved for us to get to our site. Our site on grass was all mud and ruts. We did get parked without getting stuck. The sites are very close back to back. There is enough room on the side to park and put out your awning. There are two pet walks that are very, very small for a park this size. With all the dogs using them, it is our opinion that it is not healthful for you or your dog. Your are given 11 pages of rules. Since there are many park model units in the park many of these rules apply to them. We are rating the whole RV Park, not only the activities. That is why the low rating. We would not stay here again. We camped at Fun-N-Sun RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a destination RV park for people escaping northern winters. The first time I came here & they showed me the small space I was to back my 35 foot motor home I was not to pleased. Now every year I ask for that small space. There are at least one thousand spots here for RV’s. First year we stayed 1 week, then 1 month, now 4 months. The activities here are to many to mention. The entertainment provided is fantastic! They hire some of the best from all the entertainers that come down to the Rio Grande valley from Branson and other places for the winter. We only have to walk 500 feet to the great big recreation hall on Sunday for the free shows. (They have a larger dance hall 500 feet the other way) with all kinds of big name shows which you pay usually 5 dollars for.) They have a complete woodworking shop with dust vacuums , Lapidary shop, Silver shop, A train on wheels you can take free sunset rides on. It was awarded best Xmas lights this year by the City of San Benito. As for the mud hole write up, It almost never rains in the valley. In the 4 months I have been here this year, there were 3 days of light rain. The year the above folks referred to an unusual rain pattern (worst in 20 years) hit the complete valley! Yes, it was a mess. They also had hurricane Dolly this summer. We got a new Music room out of it. I play guitar. They did a wonderful job cleaning it up. So many folks volunteer here, my wife teaches a stretch class, others teach art classes. There is a large motorcycle club, Ham radio club, Genealogy club, writers club, card games of all kinds, things to see & do in the area. This is not a place to stay for one night as you can never appreciate it in one day. Yes, it is an old park. So many Midwestern folks come down here for the winter & they seem to be the nicest folks I have ever met, not like me, an obnoxious Yankee! If we could sell our home, would stay here 6 months. We camped at Fun-N-Sun RV Resort in a Motorhome.

What a mud hole! Thank goodness the site that had been assigned to us was so muddy (we would have sunk into the ground) that they put us in overlow, which was blacktop and private. The overflow site had everything except cable, which we did not need. The access road to the sites are one way and very narrow. The sites are not angled. I do not know how we would have been able to park in our "assigned" space. The WiFi was not working. Apparently WiFi is free to short term stays. You can, however, bring your laptop to their computer room or use one of their desktops to access the Internet. On the positive side, the resort has a wood shop, dancing, entertainment, computer room, and other "keep busy" activities. In addition, they have interior shuffle board courts (about 17 courts), billiard tables, and ping pong tables. They also have a great workout room with excellent equipment. We were happy that we only paid $17 a night through Passport America! We camped here in a 40' motorhome with four slides. We camped at Fun-N-Sun RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Lots of activities, very poorly maintained campground. Lots of rain this winter in the Valley which really degraded the campground. Several rigs had to be pulled out by 4x4 trucks when leaving. No visible maintenance in the campground that we could see. Those who complained the most, got some fill brought in to try to counteract the mud and water. WiFi was intermittent but supposedly being worked on. Campground personnel were friendly but we wouldn't stay there again. The roads are so narrow that many folks had a difficult time coming and going. One new rig tore his awning off on a tree as he was leaving one morning. (mostly his own fault, but the narrow street didn't help.) This one is off our short list of winter retreats. We camped at Fun-N-Sun RV Resort in a Motorhome.
