Overall Rating:

We stayed at this park overnight only on the way home from a trip we took in June. The park was so nice that we wanted to return, so we did. We stayed two nights in July. I would recommend a cooler time, but the extreme temperatures are not the fault of the park itself. The park features half-moon pull through sites. You get the benefits of a pull through and your camper door faces the wooded area. Sites are mostly shady, but they do get the full sun at times. All RV sites are full hook-up (water, electricity, and sewer). There is a concrete patio on one part of the site with an uncovered picnic table. Women's restrooms didn't look like they were used very much. They weren't clean, but they weren't horrible either. There were resident spiders in two of three stalls; showers had some dirt on the floor from another camper, and it had dried (meaning it had been awhile since the restroom was cleaned). Men's restrooms were very dirty (as reported by my husband, who isn't overly choosy). The park itself was clean. Sites had grass that was cut low, likely so that one could spot any slithery creatures that may or may not be venomous, and we greatly appreciated this. We did not see trash on the ground. Although we did not visit the playgrounds, they appeared to be in good working order. This park is rich in wildlife. We saw deer every day, and we saw deer during our last trip as well. We saw an armadillo running through our site as well. The animals are wild, but they do not appear bothered by our presence--except the deer to some extent. Deer seem to recognize that humans often come equipped with rifles, even though hunting is likely not permitted in the park. Park rangers are friendly, informative, and helpful. The San Felipe de Austin Museum, located outside of the park, is awesome. It opened recently, and it's a special treat if you have even the faintest appreciation for Texas history. We camped at Stephen F. Austin State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This is a real pretty park. The slots are on two loops, an inner and outer loop. The outer loop in our opinion has better views. All slots are pull-through but a bit small for a 45' MH. It fit but barely. There is only 30 amp service so an adapter is required. I didn't have one but picked one up at an RV store within 5 miles of the park. Good cell and WiFi coverage. We did a lot of hiking in the park. The trails are shaded, wide, and smooth enough to ride bikes. The Brazos river trail is probably permanently closed due to previous flooding. The mosquitos are horrendous so be prepared during the spring/summer months. We camped at Stephen F. Austin State Park in a Motorhome.

Following a massive flood in 2016, this park has reopened and is still refurbishing some of the structures. It is quiet, shady, peaceful and filled with wildlife. The pull-through sites are easy to navigate. We camped at Stephen F. Austin State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We have never been to this park, but after they had the big flood last year the park is in great shape. We had a pull through site # 40 with full hook ups. The sites are big in size with a picnic table, fire ring, and sites are paved. Our computer service and cell phone worked well. Both are through Verizon. We camped at Stephen F. There are many walking trails if you like to walk. There is a golf course also inside the park. The park is about 5 miles from Sealy Texas where you will find a Super Walmart, several places to eat. Camping World is back east towards Houston on I-10 about 12 miles from the State Park. Also, on your way to Camping World you will find a Flying J with RV pull through gas lanes and LP Gas.

Stephen F Austin State Park is on the Brazos River west of Houston near Sealy, Texas. The park re-opened March 1, 2017 after being closed since May 2016 due to flooding. Lush vegetation, huge trees and abundant birds. Great hiking trails. There are 40 full hookup, pull through RV sites (water, 30A electric and sewer). The sites are spacious. Many water only tent sites. Most sites have good shade. Water pressure is low. We camped at Stephen F. Austin State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Although we had to wait a while until the office opened over the lunch hour, check was easy and fast. Sites are a little narrow, but all are pull through. This state park has sewer which most do not although sewer inlet is 3-4 inches above ground level which makes dumping a little inconvenient. Only 30 amp in our site but utilities are easily accessible. Restrooms and showers, while a little dated, were clean. Sites are well separated and level. Many walking trails and good birding opportunities. We have been here before and will return. We camped at Stephen F. Austin State Park in a Motorhome.

Nice park, mostly quiet (they were repairing the entrance bridge and ran the pile driver into the night). Great sites, all level, all drive thru, full hook ups. Some of the trails were closed due to obstacles. Only complaint regards esthetics. Fallen trees everywhere. Wish they would let you gather fallen wood. Nice fires and cleaner appearance for the parks. We camped at Stephen F. Austin State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

This state park has full hookups and large sites. As a previous post stated the more private sites are on the outside of the loop, but none of the sites are truly private. They do mow a large section around each site, which is great as some parks barely mow around the picnic area. Would love to see a little under growth between the sites for privacy. Beware the water pressure is low and it fluctuates at times to very low. The way the sewer pipe is done makes it hard to completely drain your sewer hose. The park host mentioned that they are in the process of going through the RV sites and trimming up the trees, which is needed as I was not able to pull through the pull thru site because of low hanging limbs. Note that after heavy rain some of the sites have large puddles of standing water. As others have mentioned the bridge into the park is being rebuilt so there is a little detour. Nice hiking trails, but most of them were closed because of being flooded. Great birding area, but the mesquitos were so bad that I could not stay at the wildlife viewing for being eaten alive. There is shopping and restaurants nearby in Sealy and Katy. We camped here in a travel trailer. Would definitely stay here again when in the area. If the sites had more privacy and there was good water pressure I would give this park a 9. We camped at Stephen F. Austin State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

This state park is about 3 miles north of I-10. We stopped for a couple of nights as a brief stay over on our way from San Antonio to the Houston area, sandwiched in time between the last part of the very busy Thanksgiving weekend and deer hunting season, in which they clear the park completely. As noted on their website, they are rebuilding the main bridge into the park and will require campers following the usual check-in at their front gate, to backtrack a bit to Peters San Felipe Road and come in a temporary detour to the camping areas themselves. Looks like folks didn't factor in the "daily admission" fee of $5pp, which brings the rate close to $32/nite (annual pass may economize some). The park is a scenic forest that includes large trees (a few native pecan) and Spanish Moss, and the Brazos River. We encountered an extremely wet period that was good for restoring Texas' aquifer following years of drought, but made for dreary camping with closed trails. During more seasonal weather, the ample campsites with tables and fire rings provides space for enjoyable if not completely private camping, with quiet nights (and lots of deer grazing nearby). Park staff at the front office were congenial and efficient, hosts not seen much. Diminishing the parks attractiveness in our view were the single small, outdated bathroom / shower facility servicing all the spread-out campers with no paved or gravel trail (if you are not nearby it is effectively useless as it can entail hiking along the road a fair ways), and the tight, unlandscaped, rough not-quite-level asphalt road pull-outs (there are no back-ins here). Buildings appear in need of a repainting or at least application of a good de-mossing agent. Probably nice enough when weather is cooperative and not crowded but dated facilities, camp layout and infrastructure bring this down a notch compared to other similar Texas lake facilities rated on rvparkreviews. We camped at Stephen F. Austin State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The recommended area is on the Northern / Eastern outer loop (high 30's), probably due to proximity to river and restrooms. Note though that dump station is also in that area, and a notable hum emanates from a water treatment facility on the Eastern side. Southern sites in the low numbers are close to a children's playground.

We loved this state park. The sites are very big, easy to get into, with full hook ups. The best part of the park were the camp hosts. They stopped by our site several times to see how we were doing, gave us recommendations for meals out, trails to hike and other spots to stop in Texas. We had a problem with a water connection and once reported it was fixed with in an hour. We definitely would stop here again. We camped at Stephen F. Austin State Park in a Motorhome.

We camped in a 40' 5th wheel. The park has suffered due to drought, storms, and flooding and needs the electrical upgraded in the RV loop. 30 amp, water, and sewer. Staff is friendly, lots of wold life and trailer are fun to hike and bike. Trails have been closed a lot due to extreme rain. The lower numbered sites are better shaded but really for smaller rigs.
