Our welcome at this park was friendly and efficient. We thought we had a "riverside" site, but between us and the river was a huge open field in the process of being cleared and graded - perhaps more sites. The heated pool and above ground hot tub are indeed here; but suffer, like the showers and other parts of this park, from age and many years of use. Deferred maintenance is a great description of the shortcomings here. We would not plan to return. We camped at Pecan Park Riverside RV in a Travel Trailer.

Vic and Marsha, we appreciate your insight and observations, but there's more to the story you may not be familiar with. We experienced three major floods in less than two years. As the park's new owners, we took complete financial ownership. Our losses were around $700K. We're simply grateful to still have a business! Our business is still thriving because people who know us know we are 100% committed to doing the best job we can for our customers. We thank them for their graciousness and continued loyalty as we continue down a long 5-year flood recovery plan. So to your specific points, we aren't doing deferred maintenance, but flood recovery. You did stay at a riverside site, on the bluff overlooking the river. There will not ever be additional sites added any closer to the river than where you stayed because we will never risk the safety of our customers. What we have gained is a 4.5-acre tract of what will become park-like usable green space.

Normal daily rate $50 is way too high for what you get. Passport America only works weekdays & is still $25 per night. Staff is friendly, but not quite familiar with their sites. It appears they use certain sites for daily raters and better sites for long termers, of which there are many. We were assigned site 330, which she described as a pull thru with open sky to the south for Dish signal. Not a pull thru. A pull into vs. back into. Very narrow, our 40' bus needed some maneuvering to get straight & not damage any of the hookups. And too many trees to get Dish signal. They have indoor pool but the hot tub needs you to jump through hoops to get access-gotta go upstairs & contact staff to get access. They have a small store, DVD's for borrowing, and propane available for delivery to your rig. Just an average RV park with extraordinarily high price. Be prepared to have self-appointed "traffic cops" jumping out waving arms telling you to slow down while driving through park, we got one crazy lady doing that as my wife idled out the driveway at warp-factor zero. We camped at Pecan Park Riverside RV in a Motorhome.

Pecan Park Riverside RV Park, owner at Pecan Park Riverside RV responded to this review

rvrat, we appreciate your insight. I (owner Rachael Rowley) spoke with your husband personally in our office as we tried to find you an available site through a Friday night. There were only five unoccupied sites to choose from, so we put you in 330 which has a direct line of sight to the south. The occupants of the site before and after your stay both used their satellite. We've also had longer rigs stay in that site. As far as the hot tub, we do have rules in place to protect our guests and their children. The same applies to drivers through the park. We have many children and pets and the community wants to look after them.

We had reserved two premium pull through sites. They put us in two back in sites.

We requested two pull through sites as we had already paid for when reserved. None were available, they put us at two sites that were on different ends of the campground.

During the move of our trailers to the sites, we saw a site, one over from mine was empty.

Went back to the office and requested that site, it was reserved. After discussing the other sites, suddenly we were informed the site we were now requesting was available due to a cancellation. That was great, but funny thing is, we were told no money back for cancellations, so why would someone cancel?

The group in the office was very disfunctional. Also no discounts at all, good sams, nothing. Only campground in the whole trip like that. Not worth $50.00 dollars a night. We camped at Pecan Park Riverside RV in a Travel Trailer.

Pecan Park Riverside RV Park, owner at Pecan Park Riverside RV responded to this review

Hi, John. I'm sorry you were not fully satisfied with your stay at Pecan Park. I can understand how the site change would be frustrating, but there are a lot of moving pieces on our end. Our park runs close to full--if not full--every weekend, so we aren't able to guarantee site requests. Our office staff do their best to accommodate any requests (which you experienced due to the cancellation), but they can't always do so. Speaking of cancellations, we do have them, so availability can change not just daily, but hourly. Regarding empty sites you may see around the park, we have guests who keep sites rented on a monthly basis. So even though they may have taken their rig somewhere else temporarily, their site is paid for and reserved. Finally, instead of raising our rates over holidays and peak weekends and then discounting those higher rates like many parks do, we simply do not accept discounts over holidays and peak weekends. I hope this background information is helpful.

We used this Camp Ground 5 years prior but as mentioned it pretty run down and over priced, but close to the Kayak company (within walking of the RV park) my daughter & I enjoyed that part of it, the river access would be limited to not possible if you have any type of walking / climbing challenges. We will try and book early to get a spot up front which would be next to the river bank We camped at Pecan Park Riverside RV in a Travel Trailer.

Hi Rose6Ranch, thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We're constantly working to improve the park for our guests. We have brand new washers and dryers in our laundry room, plus we just remodeled the bathrooms in our indoor pool area and added showers there. We look forward to seeing you again down the road!

This is a big park. Sites are oddly arranged. We had a pull through site right next to the office with good parking for toad, but the site next to us felt like it was on top of us. Facilities appeared to be decent, but we didn't use any of them. It was extremely overpriced for the condition the park is in. Nothing fancy about it. Unfortunately, it was our only option while we were in town for the week working.

When I went to check in the lady wouldn't accept my Good Sam card, saying it was the roadside assistance card and not the membership card. I hadn't run into this issue yet, and as she was right, I didn't balk, but just thought, "Don't you have to have a membership to have the roadside assistance?" Whatever, it just came off as greedy.

The river access was beautiful, but I wouldn't stay here again, primarily because of the price, unless it was the only option. We camped at Pecan Park Riverside RV in a Motorhome.

This is our first stay at this park so we have no previous experience. I do know this park was hit bad by the flooding that occurred in the Central Texas area earlier this year. It looks like they are in the process of rebuilding. It had rained some prior to our arrival but the place was pretty muddy. They need to upgrade their roads and pads. The nightly rate of $47 for a deluxe site is high especially considering they are not much different than the other sites. Check on the payment policies before you go.

No tables etc at the sites, just a small concrete pad. Cable is available but we didn't use it. Since it was winter, we were able to use satellite but that won't be possible in the spring and summer due to the large pecan trees. Wifi was pretty good in the day, slower in the evening. I think that was the internet itself and not really their wifi. The creekside of the park is washed away with a pretty good drop down. The frisbee golf course is gone. They were still clearing debris from that area. We didn't use the facilities. Office staff was pretty friendly. Probably wouldn't stay here again due to the surface conditions. We camped at Pecan Park Riverside RV in a Motorhome.

Our rate was based on staying there a month. I know that they have been hit twice within a 7 month period from MAJOR flooding. But within that month that we were there, I saw no repairs happening. They even had to change my electric meter out as it was not working because it was packed with mud. The site we stayed at was like a mud bog after it rained and the through road would be under water. It would take about a week of dry weather to start getting better. There is a lot of silt as their top soil.

They advertise standard sites as low as $400 a month, but that is for people staying there for months. The washers and dryers were not replaced after the floods and you can tell as they sound horrible. Wifi is hit or miss. The hot tub was fixed after we were there for 2 1/2 weeks.

The staff was friendly.

I would not stay there again unless they made repairs and upgrades. So sad as I read that they were voted within the top ten RV parks in the US in 2014. We camped at Pecan Park Riverside RV in a Fifth Wheel.

The park website and its other advertising hypes up the place in a grandiose nature.

Overall my family has rated this camp ground with an average to poor rating. The grounds were cluttered with trash from previous campers, the roads are subpar for hauling trailers and the facilities (such as bathrooms) are poor and have seen better days. The Wifi signal is poor and the cable was inoperable.

For the amount of money they want to charge per night and the "restrictions" they have for their customers, they obviously believe that their geographic location next to the river will overcome their shortcomings. We camped at Pecan Park Riverside RV in a Travel Trailer.

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Pecan Park in San Marcos, Texas is not family friendly and the owners of this park are not respectful to the guests.

Here are some examples of the treatment of guests at this park:

1. Night Security is extremely rude. The owners evict guests at for minor things (like doing sparklers by the river on the 4th of July). As we watched our camping neighbors pack up their trailer, the Sheriff's Department advised us that this happens on a regular basis, but because it is private property they have no choice but to make sure the campers leave. This was the second time the police had shown up in 2 days.

2. There is an abandoned home on the property that is open with no warning signs or security tape and children in the park were running through this home the entire weekend that we were camping in early July. I understand that there was a flood at the end of May, 2015, but the home should have been secured for the protection of the guests. There was also debris lying outside the home and the steps down to the river were very dangerous.

3. The hookups on some sites are very poorly placed. Campsites are very close together and there is little to no grass around the sites.

4. Too many rules. At 10:30 you are not allowed any electronic devices. You may not even sing a song or strum an acoustic guitar quietly. You are only allowed to whisper. I don't know about anyone else, but when my family go on vacation we do not appreciate a 10:30 curfew. I can appreciate a quiet time, but have some common sense.

5. Please look at the YELP "not currently recommended" reviews and also go to www.workampingreviews.com and search for Pecan Park RV and look at the review by an employee. These reviews are very insightful. We camped at Pecan Park Riverside RV in a Fifth Wheel.

We lived there full-time from September, 2014 - May, 2015. The owners and staff are AWESOME!!!! We were there the infamous Memorial Day Weekend, 2015 when the Blanco and San Marcos rivers flooded. The owners live on property, but put the residents and guests first to make sure everyone evacuated. God Bless Them! They are back up and running...stronger than ever! It's a beautiful park with beautiful people. I highly recommend them! We camped at Pecan Park Riverside RV in a Fifth Wheel.

We had such a great time at Pecan Park! First of all, the park itself is quiet, tucked at the edge of San Marcos so it's right near everything without feeling busy. It's on the edge of the San Marcos River, just a short walk downhill from the campground, and although we didn't get to take advantage of the canoeing service in the winter, it looked convenient. The park has standard amenities (full hookups, best internet we've had at a park yet, decent cable, laundry, club house, showers, activity room) and some not-as-standard ones (indoor heated pool, hot tub, gazebos, outdoor movie theater, dog park). The sites aren't huge, but they're spaced out well enough that we never felt like we were on top of our neighbors--even the ones behind us. The stately pecan trees give plenty of shade for the rigs in most of the sites.

Next, the people. The park has great hosts, giving a real personal touch to the park. We had a nice time getting to know them during our stay. The office staff is totally on it, calling us every time a package arrived and even sending someone to help us back into our spot upon our request. We camped at Pecan Park Riverside RV in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

There are plenty of restaurants close by, as well as a grocery store. We enjoyed eating at The Root Cellar (good date night!) and Centerpoint Station (burgers, shakes, country store). Downtown San Marcos has interesting shops, and for the more adventuresome, check out nearby Jacob's Well in Wimberley (40 min drive) and Hamilton Pool in Marble Falls (1 hr). New Braunfels is close with plenty to do, including a Camping World for resupplying, and San Antonio is just an hour away.
