Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $70.00
Overall Rating:

This is a county-managed park that holds more than 600 RVs, so it is little more than a parking lot in a great location. It sits on the southernmost tip of South Padre Island, with the Gulf of Mexico on the east side and the ship channel on the south side. There are no sites right on the beach and almost none with a beach view (the dunes are in the way), but the following are sites that sit closest to the beach and provide a shorter walk to it, so they therefore might be worth the $10 per night "premium": S01-09, C436-457, S24. However, there are some sites with unblocked views of the channel, which is fun when the big ships come through: S15-23, C398-C406, and other sites at the very end of the rows along Channel View Drive. The sewer connection in our site, C419, was at the very back of the site and therefore useless to us. We ended up using the one and only dump station in the park. Be very careful when first arriving at the park. You have to stop at an office about 500 yards before the entrance. The office is much closer to the KOA than to the entrance to Isla Blanca. Stop there first to get your site assignment and initial the most ridiculously long contract ever used in an RV park (and I'm a lawyer saying that). Then you'll have the choice of three gated entry lanes to go into the park. The far left is for those who have checked in, but IT IS NOT WIDE ENOUGH FOR MANY RIGS. There is actually a middle entry lane that is wide enough, but it had a barricade in front of it the whole week we camped there. We suggest that you pull off and talk to the entry attendant before trying to take your camper into the park and risk scraping it on the concrete pylons at the entry. Many of the campers are left in place there for months at a time, even if the local owners can only drive in on the weekends to enjoy them. So the weekends are much more crowded than the weekdays. The beach and the fishing jettys were popular at all times during our week-long stay in June. We camped at Isla Blanca Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

If Isla Blanca beach is too crowded for you, drive north on the island to County Beach access #5 or #6. Your Isla Blanca pass will waive the $10 day fee on these beaches. You can drive on these beaches (be careful not to get stuck in the dry, deep sand). You will have very few neighbors on these beaches. #5 has amenities such as bathrooms and vendors. #6 is just you and the sand and the sea. We spotted several dolphins playing just beyond the breakers during high tide each day.

Overall Rating:

This campground is the Southern most in the Texas. Borders the bay and the Gulf of Mexico. PRO: It's beachy, warm, and windy. Lots of winter Texans. Had a mobile wash crew clean and wax our 29' for $100. Mobile RV service and propane available too. Walk to the beach, bay, or town. Free bus service just outside the gate. CON: County maintenance is behind on upkeep for the sites. In Feb. 2018, it was about 95% full. The registration closes at 6:00pm and is located 300 yards North of the park entrance by the KOA. Prior reviews cautioned about grass burrs or stickers. We did not find that to be accurate and should have brought the bikes anyway. We camped at Isla Blanca Park in a Travel Trailer.

Stayed here a month in Dec and bad luck....a lot of lousy rainy/cold weather. Luck of the draw. Cable TV worked well this time....last time, it was bad. Everything worked well but beware of the sticker burs in the grass....don't go barefoot and careful with dogs paws. Used Sierra RV for some repairs....they were good. Gas company (Hinojosa) usually has trucks in the area you can flag down or call and they'll be there quick. Also, lots of people there to clean your RV. Being so close to the beach is wonderful. When it comes to bang for the buck...it's hard to beat. We camped at Isla Blanca Park in a Motorhome.

Manuel's restaurant in Port Isabel is wonderful hole-in-the wall, closed Monday. Expect wait for breakfast on weekends. Open breakfast and lunch. Gabriella's is good pizza. Meatball cafe was very good. Blackbeards is an institution. You're not far from Schlieterbahn waterpark.

This is a run down camp site. We couldn't find the sewer then found it under an overgrown grassy section. The camp sites are right by the beach!! Beautiful and the people who stay here during the winter are fantastic. We had to leave early as our dog got goats head stickers in him and it caused an infection. I was diligent taking them off him however they are relentless. Speaking of relentless, the mosquito's are super bad here!!! The campground next door is much nicer and it is mostly gravel so the stickers would be less of a problem and you can still walk to the beach however it will cost to come in. The staff for this campground albeit they are nice. but they don't really care about anything and do not have any information regarding the park. We had to pay for electricity. It's a weird thing they have you drive in then turn around in someone elses stall then drive back and back into your stall. There is no turn around at the end of the road. The guy at the building ( where you sign in) say no problem there is lots of room to turn around ( I looked at the map and went back in to ask even before we went in) NO ROOM TO TURN AROUND. We would come back without a dog and stay at the other campground. We camped at Isla Blanca Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Be careful of your electricity, burned up weeks allocation in 1 day. We were told"no one has spent their 15 dollars of electricity", I think we were scammed a bit on our deposit!! We were near the beach, the power went off twice and water too. Busy and very large. Food in town is mediocre everywhere. Water was surprisingly clean , windy all the time. Won't be back many places in USA better than this. We camped at Isla Blanca Park in a Motorhome.

Rate reflects weekly rate. When we first got there with 2 other couples we were all supposed to be booked in the same row but when we went to our site another unit was already there. Tried calling but the phone was busy so ended up having to drive back to the office. Luckily we got another site. Also make sure about the height of your coach as the entrance gate is only 13 feet high. Ours was over that so we had to pull through a side gate. Also watch out for tons of sand burs. Easy access to the beach which was pretty clean with nice sand and bathrooms. No pool which is a bit of a downer for us but not a deal breaker. Very reasonable monthly rates and most sites are well spaced. Lots of returnees who will install their own concrete or paving stone patios, fences and even out door showers! We would return. We camped at Isla Blanca Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed at a premium site near the ocean for two nights. Be alert, the registration office is on the right, immediately past the KOA, about 1/4 mile before the park entrance. The location is right on the Gulf, with white sand beaches. The restrooms and showers, however are dark and damp. This is a very large park. No reservations available for a stay of less than one week. We camped at Isla Blanca Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

We really like this park! First time here in December 2016 and we are very happy with our space. They are VERY spacious and have lots of room between the sites and your neighbor. We had a new neighbor come in next to us today and we didn't even know they were there! We didn't choose a premium site (they seem to get more wind), but we are a quick walk from the beach. Close to restrooms and showers. Our back in site is actually a front first pull in (which was a first for us). We pulled in face first up to the bushes and had to detach our truck and back it up through the grass and park the truck behind our trailer (so truck and RV are butt to butt). Like I said, this was a first and looks funny, but it works....I guess. Lots of places to walk around, nice tables and pavilion with big open beaches. For $35 a night, it is a great deal with full hookups (and includes $10 park entrance fee). The KOA right next door is double the price and they do have all of the amenities like laundry and pool, but they are SUPER close together, narrow roads and it's basically a parking lot. Yes, it has stickers, sand and bugs, but you are on the beach and it's a park! We posted lots of pics on our travel Facebook page: totally trailer if you wanted to see what it looks like before visiting. Happy travels and stay warm. We camped at Isla Blanca Park in a Travel Trailer.

The park is convenient to the beach and the island, but it is full of burrs. We have dogs, so we were constantly pulling them out of their paws and our feet. If it was just us, we would consider staying here again, but not with the dogs. The lots were spacious with a sunny exposure. Site surface was dirt.

We also had to pay a $10 park fee that they included in the price without discounting for my husband's military discount. We camped at Isla Blanca Park in a Travel Trailer.

BEWARE: Registration building is not well marked and easy to miss. We had to make a U-turn and go back to it (fortunately there was enough room). Then we missed it again and turned into the KOA. They said it happens a lot as we had to do another turn around to get out of there. If you like the beach and lots of seasonal residents, this park is for you. If you're looking for things to see and do, not so much. At this time of year, few birds to be seen, and South Padre Island looks like Florida. Lots of tourist traps, condos, bad restaurants, etc. Park sites were closely spaced and if you were near a seasonal, as we were, you were crammed in with all their "stuff" - Tomato plants, fences, storage trailers - not our cup of tea. Quite hours weren't enforced. Beach not monitored, so dogs off leashes pooping with owner (1 that I saw) not caring enough to pick up after. The beach access was great if you like that. Lots of wind surfing and nice people out and about. Park staff were nice and helpful. We camped at Isla Blanca Park in a Motorhome.

This is a HUGE park that I am told is 100% full most of the summer and 85% full in winter. I think it would be a zoo when it's full, but it was nice and quiet when we were here. The sites closest to the beach are $45/day. We took one in the second tier that was $35/day FHU and was still only a couple hundred yards from the beach if that. We stayed a week at $200 + $15 deposit for electric. Forgot to get a reading on the way out so forfeited a few bucks since I'm sure we didn't use $15 worth but oh well. The showers closest to our site were pretty disgusting. Water pressure and hot water were fine but there were bugs, peeling paint, horrible vinyl stall curtain covered in what looked like mold or mildew. Also no private changing area. Maybe other buildings are better, but I decided it was worth moving the stuff we store in our shower to use our own facilities for the remainder of the week! The other BIG complaint for us was all the sticker plants everywhere. We literally had to carry our dog from our door to the paved road in order for him not to get a paw full of painful stickers. At least you are allowed to walk your dog on the beach, but it doesn't make up for the horrible stickers for me. Can't even remember if there was wi-fi but if there was it didn't work worth a darn. Had to use Verizon data all week which did work well. The weather was horrible all week (killer heat and humidity and torrential downpours) so we were stuck in the rig most of the week. Loved being at the beach but didn't get to enjoy it much. Not sure if that weather is typical or not, but I would not come back because of that and mainly because it's a horrible place for dogs. We camped at Isla Blanca Park in a Truck Camper.

Cable TV didn't work well but I have DISH so no big loss. You can't pick up Ch5/ABC over the air at the beach, though. Lots of room and pretty EZ to get around. If you're looking to stay here during the summer make sure to book months in advance; otherwise, there is lots of room usually. They need to be a little more on the ball when it comes to trimming and mowing. good bang for the buck though. I've stayed at the KOA nearby and it's nice but far more expensive. If pool/hot tub is worth about double the price, fine. It's usually pretty windy so putting the awning out isn't a good option most of the time. We camped at Isla Blanca Park in a Motorhome.

Many things to do on SPI and some good places to eat. However, for great tex-mex, Manuel's in Port Isabel near the lighthouse is a wonderful hole-in-the-wall for breakfast and lunch. On weekends during the summer, be prepared for a wait to get in, though. Blackbeards and Louie's are institutions. D'Pizza Joint is very good.

This park is run by the County and they must use the great deal of money they get for other things, cause they sure don't put it into the park. Terrible maintenance, very unhelpful staff, good monthly rates, but all the sites are booked a year in a advance during the winter and summer months. Once someone has a reservation, they can keep it every year forever. You will have to inherit a good site during prime time. If you want a picnic table you have to buy the wood and build it yourself, I am not kidding!! Want concrete patio, you have to build the form and call the concrete truck/pour and finish it yourself, no lie. They have you, because it is near the beach and the KOA is a rip-off pricewise. Sandburrs, bad electric, no laundry, bad parking, many tight noisy, small sites, all jammed in next to each other. Want to go and look at a site before paying, sorry, you have to pay the entrance fee just to do that. Not that all county employees are this way, but.....they could care less and it shows. No help, there was one lady who was really helpful last year, she had list of sites that were available for a couple of months stay, her co-workers lost it!!! Many grass only sites that look like a train wreck. I wish there were other options, but there are very few. We camped at Isla Blanca Park in a Fifth Wheel.
