The campground is a typical eastern Texas campground with gravel roads and gravel sites. Our site was easy in and hopefully will be easy out in the morning! Some effort has been done to put in trees, cactus, bushes, here and there. The campground is very clean and has two fenced in dog areas side by side so that big and little dogs can be separated. It's shaded by willow trees, has a bench for the human and poo bags are provided. The staff has been super friendly and helpful. We ended up staying an extra night due to high winds and we were accommodated with no problem. There is propane service, which we used. We did hear trains but not at night. There are a lot of lights at night and it was difficult to sleep with the windows open. We camped at Van Horn RV Park (formerly Van Horn KOA) in a Fifth Wheel.

We have been staying here for overnighters since it was a KOA. Its spacious and no restrictions on pets as we have 5 little ones. They are adding more spaces in the back 40. The big DP's all stay here. Good cable TV. Utilities all good. We camped at Van Horn RV Park (formerly Van Horn KOA) in a Motorhome.

This is a very nice, large campground. The pull-though sites are extremely large, probably 90 to 100 feet with adequate room on each side. The sites are level. There is easy access off I-10 and close to Flying J. Very quiet. We enjoyed our stay. We camped at Van Horn RV Park (formerly Van Horn KOA) in a Motorhome.

Sitting just a short distance south of Interstate 10, this very nice RV park is well run and nicely laid out. The few 30-amp only RVs are put in the front, the larger 50-amp RV sites fill out the remainder. All sites face north, so the afternoon sun casts a nice shadow on the door-side. There is lots of room to manuever but the 30-amp-only site we were at could not accomodate both our small RV and tow car without the car sticking into the pathway. After unhitching the car, it did fit beside the RV without any issues. Lighted pedestals contain water, electricity and cable TV connections. Sewer was at ground level, and had a big enough opening for our tube. The office people were very accommodating and well organized and had our info handy so it was quick to get going to the site. There is a small store inside the office. There is a on-site cafe but we did not use it. We were in site C-3 and it was fairly level, consisting of dirt and small gravel/rock. Next to us was a tree which provided some shade on the picnic table. There was no fire pit or grill. Laundry and bathrooms were typically laid out and clean. We did not try the cable TV. Verizon signal was 4-5 bars. We camped at Van Horn RV Park (formerly Van Horn KOA) in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

RV park is about 1 hour from Guadalupe Mountains National Park, a great destination if you like big vista's and/or hiking. Best to hike when it's cool. We did Smith Springs Trail and McKittrick Canyon, both were pretty great! We ate at Van Horn Cattle Company (great steaks and chicken) and Chuy's (fairly good and very cheap Tex-Mex).

This is a great little park just of 1-10 with super easy access into, around, and out of the park. Sites and most everything around is dirt but the sites are long and wide enough. We stayed one night in our 45ft MH with tow attached and had no trouble getting around the park. The place has a desert vibe with blooming cactus at this time of year with pretty views of the hills. Office staff were very nice and really efficient. We would definitely stop again if in the area. We camped at Van Horn RV Park (formerly Van Horn KOA) in a Motorhome.

Pulled in for an overnight. Long pull through, easy hookup, could walk the dogs all around the back of the park. They do serve breakfast and dinner. We ate breakfast there. Great simple breakfast. Eggs were perfect. Had to do a couple of loads of laundry and that was fine also. It is an older campground and needs a little TLC but it was fine for us and having breakfast available and food was a great thing. Would stop over again. Was a KOA park at some point. We found it very nice and clean. Staff very friendly. The on site cafe is basic but served us an excellent breakfast. Access from I-10 was easy and is far enough away so noise was not an issue for us. We stayed overnight and would stay again. We camped at Van Horn RV Park (formerly Van Horn KOA) in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed here for one night in a 45' MH pulling a pickup truck. Our pull through was quite long and easy to navigate. There was no need to unhook. The sites are dirt. The park is easy access to I-10 and a good place to spend the night. They have a small cafe on site open until 8 pm with a dinner and breakfast menus. They also serve beer and wine. We would stop here again. We camped at Van Horn RV Park (formerly Van Horn KOA) in a Motorhome.

Our experience was tainted by the fact it had rained right before we arrived. The roads and parking are a mix of dust and gravel. We parked at the office to check in and had to walk in thin mud just to get in and out of my (formerly) clean truck. Everywhere we walked or drove we left 1/8-1/4 inch deep tracks. Luckily our site had some weedy grass and I was able to plug in and get in the trailer without further mud. The wind was gusting to 45+ so we were just happy to be parked for the night. Very close to gas and highway so there must be truck noise but we didn't notice due to the wind. Welcome to west Texas! I would probably stay here again but hope it would be dryer. We camped at Van Horn RV Park (formerly Van Horn KOA) in a Travel Trailer.

This is an interesting park with no frills but a great stop in West Texas. Sites and interior is all gravel but they are long. When we arrived they said pick any site you like so we did. Had a facing view of the distant hills with no RVs in front. There aren't many amenities but it was a pleasant place to stay. We didn't use the wifi. There are some trees but our satellite worked fine. We would definitely stay again if in the area. We camped at Van Horn RV Park (formerly Van Horn KOA) in a Motorhome.

Really disappointed in this park. They had advertised TV Cable hookups. Yeah, there are hookups, but not all the channels listed on paper given to us when we checked in. The few channels available are VERY fuzzy! And the dog run? Don't put your dog in there--unless you have got a very fat, slow Saint Bernard who won't go under the holes under the fence! The $35 charged is definitely TOO much! We camped at Van Horn RV Park (formerly Van Horn KOA) in a Motorhome.

Penny Self, owner at Van Horn RV Park (formerly Van Horn KOA) responded to this review

Floridagayle,
I am the owner and I am sorry you did not enjoy your stay here with us.
When I seen your review I took it upon my self to check on all your complaints. First on the TV cable hookups I checked our site map and they all match the TV channels but if you do not turn off your Anti Booster cable switch your TV will not get all the channels. That will also make your TV channels fuzzy. I also checked the dog run our fence goes all the way into the ground. The fencing at the dog run is about 4" wide and if you have a little Chihuahua it will get through the fence.
We do try to our best to make everyone's stay as comfortable as possible. We do apologize for any inconvenience that we caused you. Regards Owner

On a positive note, the staff are very accommodating, the pull thru sites are long and level, the rest rooms were clean as well as the Park in general. Further, their diner produces some very tasty meals. They even deliver to your site. On a negative side, there are sand burrs everywhere! Our dog could not walk in what little grass there was and even the designated pet areas were filled with burrs. We even had to scrap off our shoes entering the coach of burrs buried in the soles. In our judgement, the issue could be remedied by removing all the attempts at grass and gravel the entire Park. We will probably write this Park off our list as long as we have pets that need to eliminate outside. We camped at Van Horn RV Park (formerly Van Horn KOA) in a Motorhome.

This is a quiet and convenient location south of I-20 and east of US-90. Our site was long and level. All the utilities were conveniently located and worked well. No problem with cable, but WIFI was slow with occasional drops. The staff here are exceptional! There was a sewer problem at the edge of the campground and they worked tirelessly until it was fixed. I don't think any campers were inconvenienced. We'll stay here again if in the area. We camped at Van Horn RV Park (formerly Van Horn KOA) in a Fifth Wheel.
