Park was very well kept. It was clean, quiet, lots of deer. Sites were spacious, some shaded some not. WIFI was good, Verizon LTE/3G was ok. Water access good for boating. Firewood available in the park via vending machine (credit card swipe). Also saw an onsite airstrip where RC modelers were flying. The two trails were short, well kept and a nicely shaded. We camped at Lake Whitney State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed in Sunset Park area of the park and I can not say one bad word about our experience here. Well maybe that it was a little too windy for my husband to fish, but that is by no means the fault of the park. We had the most perfect spot in the whole park, right on the water. We sat out most of the day and enjoyed the gorgeous lake view and cool breezes, then at night we moved right out to the water and watched the sun set over lake. There is a fire ring which we used once. The public restrooms were damaged during the floor in the spring and are still not working but did not pose a problem with us. There are many walking, hiking or riding trails around the lake. Roads are in good shape. Was well kept, clean and well monitored at all times by the park rangers. You could not ask for nicer park rangers they were supper friendly and helpful. I know we will be back many times to enjoy this wonderful State Park on Lake Whitney. We camped at Lake Whitney State Park in a Motorhome.

The town of Whitney is very close by not a big town but does offer fast food and one grocery store and gas. A few antique stores in the town. Also several small convenice stores are near by.

This state park is well maintained and offers hiking trails and great access to the lake and fishing. We have stayed here before and will stay here again. The park has both pull-through and back-in sites. Some are concrete, our pull-through was gravel. Our site was not level, but that was an easy fix for us. Each site had a picnic table and a fire ring, no bar-b-q pit. We had full hook-ups and all utilities were in good working order. Sites have ample space between and offer a daily view of wildlife and the woods. The RV loop with full hook-ups does not have a lake view. There are some nice hiking trails and even walking/biking on the asphalt roads is lovely. This park has a small airstrip, boat ramp, and easy access to the lake for swimming. We camped at Lake Whitney State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Our first official RV adventure for 2017 was a weekend spent camping at Lake Whitney State Park. While camped at Lake Whitney State Park we were set up in the Sunset Ridge camping loop which is in my humble opinion the very best place to camp at Lake Whitney State Park. I had a "run in" with a park official who attempted to ban my use of my mobility scooter. BB and I were still able to tour the whole of Lake Whitney State Park on the scooter. We camped at Lake Whitney State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We were at Lake Whitney State Park near Whitney, Texas with our camping group, the North Texas Camping Association, in February 2017. They have 40 full hookup, pull through, shaded sites in the Horseshoe Camping Area. We were in site 34. They also have some water/electric RV sites nearer the lake. There are a couple of good hiking trails. Whitney is nearby with restaurants, groceries and fuel. Walmart 15 miles away in Hillsboro. We've been here many times and will return. We camped at Lake Whitney State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We wanted to take our Casita out and shake off some of this cold-spell cabin fever. We needed a short camping break. So during the second week of February we decided to take advantage of the off-season State Park rates (only $84 a week for full hook-ups). We picked near-by Lake Whitney State Park. A short drive south from Dallas on Interstate 35, take the Hillsboro exit. At the Hillsboro exit, turn right on State Highway 22 and then take State Highway 22 west to Whitney. Then follow the signs to Lake Whitney State Park. The park is located three miles west of Whitney on FM 1244 on the shores of Lake Whitney.

While only about an hour away from the Dallas-Ft. Worth metro-mess, Lake Whitney State Park is still far enough out to enjoy the stars and dark night skies.

They have 43 campsites with full hook-ups. The sites are well-spaced so you don't get cramped. All RV sites are mostly level front-to-back and level side-to-side so minimum leveling is needed. The electric and water hook-ups looked new.

Facilities were spotlessly clean. We even had free Wi-Fi!

Deer are everywhere, turkey are common and there is camping, hiking, mountain biking, picnicking, boating, fishing, water skiing, nature study and excellent birding. We saw more beautiful bright red Cardinals this week than we have ever seen anywhere else. In warmer months there is swimming (buoyed area -no lifeguard on duty), scuba diving, and a small beach. The Park Headquarters has "loaner" fishing tackle, rods and reels.

When I say deer are everywhere: the deer are EVERYWHERE. We saw large herds of deer every morning and most evenings. Two mornings we awoke to find our site surrounded by whitetails. It was a really beautiful site to see these whitetails frolicking in the morning Sun. We camped at Lake Whitney State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Very nice state park - it was full on the weekend we camped. Lots of pull thru sites, however we got there late and had a back in. We had site 21. Their back ins are wide and short. We had to park our truck next to the camper making it tight. Family camping with us in site 19 had a 5th wheel and had to park awkward to fit in their site. Pull thru sites were long and spacious. Lots of trees. Picnic table and fire ring at each site. Lots of open space for kids. Nicest sites are on the lake but the full hookups like we had are not. Whitney is a short drive and there is a Brookshires and other small town shopping. We look forward to camping here again but the key is to get a pull thru. Nice walking trails. We camped at Lake Whitney State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We were at Lake Whitney State Park near Whitney, Texas in site 26 The Horseshoe Loop (sites 1-51) have full hookups for $24/night. Beautiful wooded sites. Most sites in Horseshoe loop are pull throughs. Many sites can accommodate large RV's but be mindful of the trees. They have 3 other loops with water and electric that are closer to the lake. The lake is full and looks great. There is a Brookshires grocery in Whitney and a David's grocery just outside the park on Hwy 22. We've camped at this state park many times and will definitely return. We camped at Lake Whitney State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall this was a nice place to stay. I prefer a little more wooded. But that's just personal preference. Big downside was we paid an arm and a leg to stay here. We had an extra vehicle and a couple of extra people (We have 7 children), so we paid out to wazoo in extra charges. Also, they knew that we have a huge rv, yet tried to squeeze us into a tiny spot, even though the park was practically empty. It was not nearly big enough for our rig alone, not to mention our cars. We decided to change spots first, then go to the office and inform them. We didn't think this would be a problem since there was literally 2 other rv's in a loop of 50 sites. It's not like there was a line of campers at the gate. Well we got chewed out by a ranger. We ended up with a huge beautiful site in the end and thoroughly enjoyed the rest of our week long stay there. Just unfortunate it started off rough. Saw lots of deer and turkey. Would definitely return. But now we know to request our favorite site when we check in to avoid any run-ins with the overzealous Rangers. We camped at Lake Whitney State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

I will just bullet list the PROS and CONS.. PS (There were NO CONS except one) .. We camped here in a 5th wheeler for 5 nights on our way to San Antonio. BEST Check-in of any state park anywhere in my entire life. Seriously. They did a great job. Friendly beyond expectation. Bryan checked us in. Had pictures of what each of the sites looked like - provided us with his recommendation and turned out to be a GREAT site. We were right next to the water with probably the best view in the park. We camped in slot 130. One of the other Ranger girls showed my daughter while I was checking in where the best fishing was and which bait they recommended… Sites are long for pull thrus – short but wide for back-ins. No one should have any problem parking here. Pull thru Sites are somewhat level but long. I had to only put one set of blocks under my tires to get me level. Good water pressure. Electricity stayed right at 120 VAC the entire time. 30/50 amp. Half the sites have very good shade… the other half is directly exposed mostly to sun. The sites right next to the water does NOT have sewer hookups. They are elec and water only. For supplies there is small town of Whitney about 4 miles from the campsite and 2 miles from the State Park gate. There is also a Brookshire and a well stocked ACE Hardware. Tons of wildlife – turkeys, deer, armadillos, and at night lots of strange looking things in the woods. It is so quiet out here. Absolutely no noise at all but the wind going through the trees. Yes the lake level is down about 12 feet but this lake is huge and barely noticeable. My daughter was catching fish 5 minutes after she through in her first throw at our campsite. If you enjoy walking the entire “road” loop around the park is about 4 miles long. There is spotty wireless here… they have wireless at the group camping areas – but not hardly anywhere else. I have TMobile and was getting 5 bars and 4G the entire time. Kids went swimming in the lake daily. Water was warm of course but kids had great time. Clean water. OK – the CON –.. OMG we had zero night time activities outside … during the day not a single bug, fly, wasp, anything – the reason is that they are all sleeping getting ready for the night. I swear you cannot keep any outside lights on at all otherwise they are covered in a thick carpet of gnats. Not many mosquitoes but billions of gnats. If you start a fire they seem to stay away from that – just be warned. Bathrooms and showers were super clean. I would stay here again in a heartbeat. This was our first time. If you enjoy walking the paths are will maintained – in fact the entire park is well maintained – everything was mowed – no trash – no graffiti – just very clean. The Park Host cleanup guys did a phenomenal job also. I noticed that after each guest left they went by the site – cleaned up any residue – and in fact saw them actually take a water hose and a broom and clean up some fish residue that the previous camper had left. Our site when we pulled in looked as if it had just been cleaned also. There is no pool – there is no boat rental – there is nothing but a huge lake, majestic views, awesome quietness, long trials, and peace and quiet. If this is the type of place you are looking for – then this is it. We camped at Lake Whitney State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Excellent Texas State Park, we've stayed here many times and will return. We were in pull through site #31. It easily accommodated my 37' 5th wheel with multiple slides. Good shade in the full hook-up loop. Good water Pressure and quality. Stable 50A electric service. Sewer hook-ups at sites good location, but some sites have high sewer opening in relation to camper. Dining hall available for a fee is large with a full kitchen and nice restrooms. Nice easy nature trail with a geocache. We will stay here again. We camped at Lake Whitney State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Nice State park! The ranger at check in was very helpful and friendly. The site was easy to back into, paved and fairly level. Just a slight down hill slope, spot on level side to side. At least this site was(site 91). The site was close to the water. It had a covered picnic table (always a plus). Ground fire ring that was directly behind the site. 30 and 50 amp electric, with the standard water hookup adjacent to the power post. The site had plenty of room for everything and good room between neighboring sites. The trails are well marked and a comfortable walk. The bathrooms are well maintained and clean. The only negative is there is not a bathroom shower in each camping loop. It didn't matter to me since we have a bathroom in the camper, but to some it might be a bit of a walk. There is only 1 dump station near the entrance which is OK. We had a good time and will try and go back soon. We camped at Lake Whitney State Park in a Travel Trailer.
