If you are a Thousand Trails member, the fee is $4/night for 30amp and $7/night for 50amp service. Not all sites have sewer so choose your site carefully. We were there before the peak season and it was GREAT! It seemed we had the park to ourselves almost due to the way the sites are laid out and the amount of trees in and around the sites. There were lots of walking trails in the park as well! We camped at Thousand Trails Lake Whitney in a Motorhome.

Many Thousand Trails parks have loaded up with basically permanent residents and often trashy looking homesteads in the past few years ... but Lake Whitney has escaped most of that. It still seems like a pretty nice Thousand Trails Preserve from the past. Nice! Utilities were reliable and conveniently placed. There are a few rough spots in the road, but it's obvious some work is being done to repair that. We camped at Thousand Trails Lake Whitney in a Motorhome.

Received 30 free days with purchase of our rv. $3 per night was for 50 amp. It's a beautiful, quiet setting with large sites and lots of trees. We had some trouble with electric but worked around it. There appear to be very few 50 amp sites compared to the number of sites in the park. You have to go out and find your own site. HD tv was great. Internet was only in the clubhouse. ATT phone service was only one bar. The road into the camp is in great need of resurfacing. The adult clubhouse, pool, spa was closed due to remodeling. We camped at Thousand Trails Lake Whitney in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

No walmarts anywhere near. Small grocery in Whitney. A few fast food restaurants. The highlight was the Sunday service at the Cowboy Church in Whitney!

This is the first Thousand Trails we have visited, we got 30 free nights when we purchased our RV. So I can not compare it to others. We had an issue right off. We assumed all sites had grills so we backed in actually hooked up and then started to look closer for the grill. No grill. I called to ask what sites had them and was told by the rececptionist that all sites had grills. After her telling me there was a grill there several times I asked her to send someone to show where it was. A person came to help and when he found out what we wanted he laughed and informed us no not all sites have grills. We moved again and this time after backing in and then starting to hook up we found this site did not have sewer none around us did. We ended up staying in that site rather than move again and it was a beautiful wooded and secluded site. We only stayed 2 days so not having sewer hookup was not a problem. They do not assign sites as you can see. We were very close to the restroom/showers and just a nice walk to the activity center, family pool, golf and playgrounds. The restaurant was closed and so was the adult pool, spa area. The adult area had been hit by a bad storm the weekend before and they were doing repairs. The restaurant was closed due to no cook they were looking for someone to lease it. Both times we went to the activity center the little store was closed. WFI only in the activity area. We were pleased with the rustic wooded area and it was quite most of the time. There are very isolated areas in the back. The lake can be seen in the adult area but it is on the bluff so you can not fish. Roads are in bad shape but we did not go past the front area so it was not a problem for us. All in all we liked it. We camped at Thousand Trails Lake Whitney in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

I read reviews both good and bad before visiting this location. We thought it was really neat with all of the cedar trees and rustic touches. If you are expecting a resort, it is not. You had to choose a site carefully because the cedar trees in some sights were really tight and you couldn't open your slides. The activity areas were more than adequate including the internet at these locations but you had to drive to them. They were not a quick walk away. We used the adult pool, spa, and activity area and enjoyed them. The location borders Lake Whitney which has been closed for a while but their are trails that walk along the banks that are beautiful. The campground was quiet with friendly people and staff. The worst part of the park was the roads. They are pretty bad with lots of pot holes. I was not comfortable riding my bike on them even. 50 amp sites are limited but if you get one they work well. So, was it a resort, NO. Was it a decent campground that I would visit again, YES. We camped at Thousand Trails Lake Whitney in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

This is destination location in that there is not much really close by. There is a grocery store that is just 4 miles away and even a couple RV repair places. It is however within an hour of Dallas and Fort Worth.

At first sight, we weren't too sure about Lake Whitney but as our two week stay progressed we really started to Love it. The adult and Family Pool's were very nice. The adult lodge was a comfy retreat during the Hot days....amazing not many enjoy it, it was always empty. The roads need some work but its doable. Wooded sites with enough room around them so you don't feel crowded. We would return. We camped at Thousand Trails Lake Whitney in a Motorhome.

The park for bit hard with the fall rains. Apparently most of the facilities got flooded and they are in the process of renovating. The laundry is finally open and the family center is the hub of activity until the adult center is finished, should be by the end of the month. The roads are in need of repair, as they are very pot holed. The member activities are still going on and the staff is working hard to get the park back into tip top shape. We had no problem with the electric or WiFi through our Verizon hotspot. We camped at Thousand Trails Lake Whitney in a Motorhome.

We stayed here on 3 times in 2014 during the fall and winter. We love this park even if the roads are a little rough. Sites are gravel and mostly level. No problem with satellite reception at sites we stayed in, but at some sites if you don't have portable dish - no service. Power, water, and sewer all worked great. Traveling with kids - loop "D" is close to the family pool and family lodge. Loops "A and B" are a hike to the family lodge but closer to the Adult lodge, Adult pool and laundry room. Fond memories of this park with my parents in the 80s and 90s. We camped at Thousand Trails Lake Whitney in a Motorhome.

It's a nice clean park with a lot to offer. Roads are showing some long term wear, and need to be repaired. We were unable to get a 50 amp site, but the 30 amp site had clean electric. In Loop B, we were able to get a solid Wi-Fi signal, which worked flawlessly during our stay. We would stay here again. We camped at Thousand Trails Lake Whitney in a Motorhome.

Friendly staff, cheerful and helpful. Pretty wooded area, but sites are very unlevel and no amount of leveling in the coach helped. Was able to get good satellite reception but no Wi-Fi. Park is fairly small, but quite comfortable. We will stay here again. We camped at Thousand Trails Lake Whitney in a Motorhome.

Lake Whitney is in great condition over all, needs some road work soon, or the roads will go from needing maintenance to needing replaced. We did not photograph the mini golf as it is buried in the snow right now. Loop D has great FREE internet reception in the sites closest to the main road. Rumor has it, internet is good in the B loop as well. All the sites are in great condition, though some of the electrical boxes are suspect. As far as electrical is concerned, we took a 30A site, and it was more than adequate for our needs. The laundry is 1 mile from loop D; today we drove 8 miles just going to the laundry and back. :) Everything in this park is so far apart, one can really get his cardio in if he chooses to walk from point to point. Most of the buildings were closed for the winter, but the members are doing some activities on their own in the family center. This park is excellent for a Thousand Trails preserve; the staff is hard working and very friendly. Scale of 1 to 10, we give this park a high 9. The park would get a 10 if the lake was more accessible and visible. Visit Fort Worth stock yards from here. Don't forget to stop in Austin on the way or on the way out to see the presidential library and the new Texas History Museum. We camped at Thousand Trails Lake Whitney in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: October, 2009 - $1.00
Overall Rating:

The Lake Whitney Preserve is one of the larger preserves in the TTN system and for all it’s size is quite well maintained. The roads and sites are asphalt paved and while generally good there are a few areas that are deteriorating. Sites are generally spacious and well separated with cedar trees providing some privacy without feeling that you are in a green tunnel. Most sites have water, sewer and 30-amp electric service with a few providing 50-amp service for an additional $3 per day surcharge. Verizon cell phone and air card service is marginal and while slow, it does work. Free Wi-Fi is available at most D and B-loop campsites and at the Family Center. Many sites will provide access to the southern skies for rooftop satellite dishes but you will have to look for them. The Family Center has a nice pool, “Fillin’ Station” restaurant for weekend and occasional meals, a store and a relaxing lounge. There is a separate Adult Center with a very nice pool and spa as well as a lounge with TV and games. Surprisingly, however, there are no sites in view of the large Corps of Engineers Lake Whitney and access to the lake is only by a hiking trail through COE property. While checking in at the Gate be sure to ask for their 10-page writeup called “My Texas and the Thousand Trails Network” by Ranger Warren Wynne. It provides a brief history of Texas and the area as well as road trips of discovery. One trip stopped at the Coffee Station in Crawford, TX where Pres. Bush has occasionally eaten. A full-sized cardboard cutout of the President is in the corner if you want a picture with him. We enjoyed our stay at this park and this part of Texas and will certainly stay here again. We camped at Thousand Trails Lake Whitney in a Motorhome.
