Overall Rating:

This is a large campground with many camp sites. There are a few 50 amp sites, but they are limited in number with many sold to annuals. When we arrived on an April Monday there were still three 50 amp sites available to us so we picked the one we liked best and settled in. There are three camping loops: A, B, and D (loop C isn't open to the public). Loop D is closest to the campground entrance. While most of the campsites are full hookup, 30 amp sites you want to know that there are water-electric only sites scattered around the campground. You'll want to keep the campground map before you as you pick your site. Loop A, which is the farthest in from the entrance (over a mile) has a row of pull through sites. Again, keep an eye on your campground map as some don't have a sewer hookup. We had a nice 50 amp back-in site. While we weren't alone, there were many vacant spots all around us, making for a quiet, enjoyable stay. We were also an easy walking distance to the Adult Lodge. (I'll mention that the road by Loop A is bordered by a golf course and once we came within just a few feet of being hit by a golf ball.) Neither of the pools were open yet but we checked out the game room, workout room, and lodge. A bit farther is the parking lot for those wanting to hike the trail taking them off the Thousand Trails property down to Lake Whitney. Really, there's not much reason to come to Lake Whitney Thousand Trails to enjoy Lake Whitney. The only real negative to Lake Whitney Thousand Trails is the roads. Honestly, they are really bad. The mile in from the highway to Loop A gets worse the farther you get into the campground. While we liked the campground and enjoyed the campsite we certainly didn't like bringing our camper in over the pothole filled road. If I were rating this campground based on campsites and amenities, I think I would give it an eight. However, if you factor in the roads that rating drops down to maybe a six. We camped at Thousand Trails Lake Whitney in a Fifth Wheel.

Rate reflects 50 amp charge for thousand trail membership. Few 50 amp sites and some did not have sewer. Lots of sites covered with black plastic bags having electric problems but they were working on some sites. Roads in bad condition and many sites weren't level. Spread out with over a mile between office and children pool and the adult center and pool. Buildings old but clean. Park had lots of activities over spring break and a restaurant on site. Lots of trees for shade and two pools probably a nice place in the summer. Many trees and some sites hard to get into because of all the trees. Our fault but lost our awning to one tree. Watch out for the trees. We would come back to this park. We camped at Thousand Trails Lake Whitney in a Fifth Wheel.

Many Thousand Trails parks have loaded up with basically permanent residents and often trashy looking homesteads in the past few years ... but Lake Whitney has escaped most of that. It still seems like a pretty nice Thousand Trails Preserve from the past. Nice! Utilities were reliable and conveniently placed. There are a few rough spots in the road, but it's obvious some work is being done to repair that. We camped at Thousand Trails Lake Whitney in a Motorhome.

Received 30 free days with purchase of our rv. $3 per night was for 50 amp. It's a beautiful, quiet setting with large sites and lots of trees. We had some trouble with electric but worked around it. There appear to be very few 50 amp sites compared to the number of sites in the park. You have to go out and find your own site. HD tv was great. Internet was only in the clubhouse. ATT phone service was only one bar. The road into the camp is in great need of resurfacing. The adult clubhouse, pool, spa was closed due to remodeling. We camped at Thousand Trails Lake Whitney in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

No walmarts anywhere near. Small grocery in Whitney. A few fast food restaurants. The highlight was the Sunday service at the Cowboy Church in Whitney!

This is the first Thousand Trails we have visited, we got 30 free nights when we purchased our RV. So I can not compare it to others. We had an issue right off. We assumed all sites had grills so we backed in actually hooked up and then started to look closer for the grill. No grill. I called to ask what sites had them and was told by the rececptionist that all sites had grills. After her telling me there was a grill there several times I asked her to send someone to show where it was. A person came to help and when he found out what we wanted he laughed and informed us no not all sites have grills. We moved again and this time after backing in and then starting to hook up we found this site did not have sewer none around us did. We ended up staying in that site rather than move again and it was a beautiful wooded and secluded site. We only stayed 2 days so not having sewer hookup was not a problem. They do not assign sites as you can see. We were very close to the restroom/showers and just a nice walk to the activity center, family pool, golf and playgrounds. The restaurant was closed and so was the adult pool, spa area. The adult area had been hit by a bad storm the weekend before and they were doing repairs. The restaurant was closed due to no cook they were looking for someone to lease it. Both times we went to the activity center the little store was closed. WFI only in the activity area. We were pleased with the rustic wooded area and it was quite most of the time. There are very isolated areas in the back. The lake can be seen in the adult area but it is on the bluff so you can not fish. Roads are in bad shape but we did not go past the front area so it was not a problem for us. All in all we liked it. We camped at Thousand Trails Lake Whitney in a Motorhome.

We have stayed here several times. We are fairly local (about and hour north) and this is beautiful countryside that is still close to home. Yes, the interior roads are bad, but they have been improving the last few years with the newest owners of Thousand Trails. The best part, even when all other parks are full because of holidays, this always has room for members. They always have weekend events, breakfasts, poker nights, and a decent miniature golf course. Our second favorite Texas Thousand Trails. We camped at Thousand Trails Lake Whitney in a Fifth Wheel.

I read reviews both good and bad before visiting this location. We thought it was really neat with all of the cedar trees and rustic touches. If you are expecting a resort, it is not. You had to choose a site carefully because the cedar trees in some sights were really tight and you couldn't open your slides. The activity areas were more than adequate including the internet at these locations but you had to drive to them. They were not a quick walk away. We used the adult pool, spa, and activity area and enjoyed them. The location borders Lake Whitney which has been closed for a while but their are trails that walk along the banks that are beautiful. The campground was quiet with friendly people and staff. The worst part of the park was the roads. They are pretty bad with lots of pot holes. I was not comfortable riding my bike on them even. 50 amp sites are limited but if you get one they work well. So, was it a resort, NO. Was it a decent campground that I would visit again, YES. We camped at Thousand Trails Lake Whitney in a Motorhome.

This is destination location in that there is not much really close by. There is a grocery store that is just 4 miles away and even a couple RV repair places. It is however within an hour of Dallas and Fort Worth.

This campground is one of the better Thousand Trails we have visited. It does appear that the staff is making improvements and maintaining the property. The check in method could be improved. It would be helpful if the staff could inform which sites are available so driving around looking is minimized. The 5o amp sites were difficult to find but site maintenance was good. Will likely return here when we visit Texas again. We camped at Thousand Trails Lake Whitney in a Fifth Wheel.

This park has come along way in improving its service. Staff was friendly and went out of their way to help. Sites have been cleaned up to allow bigger rigs without damaging the rv yet still maintain privacy. Pools where clean and maintained. Only two issues I had, one was the road condition is poor and pot holes need to be filled. Second issue was 50 amp service was poor. They are very limited and not well marked when they had it. The park for bit hard with the fall rains. Apparently most of the facilities got flooded and they are in the process of renovating. The laundry is finally open and the family center is the hub of activity until the adult center is finished, should be by the end of the month. The roads are in need of repair, as they are very pot holed. The member activities are still going on and the staff is working hard to get the park back into tip top shape. We had no problem with the electric or WiFi through our Verizon hotspot. We camped at Thousand Trails Lake Whitney in a Motorhome.

The campground was hard hit by the spring storms, but the staff is working hard to repair and reopen all the facilities. There are a good number of sites, but some are small and uneven for larger rigs. Small trailers seem to fit just fine. The electrical hook-ups have had some problems, be sure to test before settling in completely. The water pressure and septic systems worked fine. The internal park roads are terrible - potholes everywhere. There are two pools which are well maintained and clean. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The park is pretty, quite wooded, serene and great for walking. We camped at Thousand Trails Lake Whitney in a Fifth Wheel.

On Mother's Day, 2015, Lake Whitney Thousand Trails was hit by a tornado that damaged some buildings and did considerable tree damage throughout the park. When we arrived a tree trimming crew was hard at work clearing campsites so the park could be open over Memorial Day weekend. We couldn't get level on the first site we tried so we moved across the way to the other available 50 amp site. It wasn't perfect but it we much better and we settled in with no further problems. The campground has two nice pools and two activity centers. The main pool and activity center is near the check-in booth. The adult pool is at the far western end of the campground. There is also a workout room, library, and spa at the adult activity center. It's more common than not for Thousand Trails to have roads in poor repair and that's true here. In fact, getting to Loops A & B, which are closest to the adult sections of the park, entails a drive of a few minutes over some of the worst roads in the place. There's no real access to the lake from the campground aside from parking in a parking lot at the western end of the road and then hiking a trail onto Corps of Engineers land to a finger of the lake. We found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. Usually, they told us, there is very good Wi-Fi in Loop D where we stayed. However, the tornado had taken all that out and it will have to be repaired. Our Verizon, though, worked pretty good. Also, there was what looked to be a nice mini-golf course. Sorry to say it was close to tornado ground zero and was buried underneath downed trees and limbs. The campground is in a forest of cedar. If you have a problems with cedar you might want to think twice before coming during the time of the year when the trees are pollinating. As I understand it the tornado has spurred several big upgrades for the campground. We camped at Thousand Trails Lake Whitney in a Fifth Wheel.

We enjoyed our visit here. Activities for adults and kids. Enjoyed the Adult pool and Adult activity center. This is a large campground and with the heat you couldn't walk from area to area very well. We were in the "A" campground which is closer to the Adult area. Rate reflects Thousand Trails Membership and 50A rate. Personnel very friendly. Saw some roadrunners and a bobcat. They only have 13 pull-through spots. 1 with 50 amp and 6 with 30 full hookup and the other 5 with 30 water/electric. In the entire complex there are only 14 sites with 50 amp hook ups. Some sites had more shade than others. Most sites were gravel. We would definitely return. We camped at Thousand Trails Lake Whitney in a Travel Trailer.

Membership park that is now available to public for a fee. We are members so rate shown is for public stay. Adult pool was fantastic and recently redone. Activities are generally only on the weekend but water aerobics were M-W-F at adult pool. Family pool is also open and miniature golf course was fun. Roads need work.
