Easy big rig access and paved sites, spacious, scenic & mostly level right on the Green River and inside Dinosaur National Monument. Spend a few days on river, hiking or scenic day-loops in Flaming Gorge country where you'd not want to venture with your rig. No dump station, water, or electric but a fee dump ($10) at Outlaw RV in Jensen. We do plan to come back. We camped at Green River Campground in a Motorhome.

Skeeters Cafe in Jensen is good. An adventurous day-loop Vernal to Dutch John, Browns Park Rd to Swinging Bridge (reopened Aug 2018) and thru Crouse Canyon (hi-clearance or 4x4) back to Vernal.

The campground is right along the Green River. The site 33 was a pull-off site and very pleasant and level. We had decent Verizon. This campground is close to the Dinosaur exhibits. We also went to the other side of the NM, in Colorado, and really enjoyed it, especially the Harper Corners Trail and Echo Park Road. We also had time to visit Flaming Gorge NRA and recommend a visit. We camped at Green River Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Great park to visit Dinosaur National Monument. Sites are fairly level with some shade. This is a boondocking park right next to the Green River. The location was great to view the river and mountains. We camped here in a 40' motorcoach. We camped at Green River Campground in a Motorhome.

WOW, OTA TV. Completely did not expect that. But Verizon BB was barely 3G and worse at times. Loop A & C are FCFS, A is the better bet for larger rigs with mostly level sites, but minimal shade in this loop. Came in mid-July on a Wed and left 5 days later on a Mon. Sites were available all days. Early afternoon is a good time to find a site. Trails, the Sounds of Silence was hot and boring, go backwards if you want to try this trail. Best hike that we found was Harper's Trail in CO. 30 miles or so off of US-40 in Dinosaur, CO. The 2 mile round trip trail is a fairly easy hike. It is at 7510' so it makes a great option if its really hot back at the Green River CG. If your looking to kill some time then Fantasy Canyon is interesting (make sure you find the back side where the round bench is). We enjoyed our stay here and would come again. We camped at Green River Campground in a Motorhome.

Gateway Saloon is a good local place for a cold one. Friendly locals here. It is just past the big pink Dino at the Vernal Welcome sign. At the next traffic light heading west, on the left is Vernal Brewing.

Overall Rating:

We got a pull-thru site that had our door facing the river. It was beautiful, but getting warm by late June. We found this boondocking campground to be crowded and hot. There was no respect for campsite - if someone wanted to go to the river, they walked through our site, between our motorhome and toad, to get there. The pull-thru sites were wide places in the road so the side of your rig was right beside the road. For some of the pull-thru sites, that meant that your door was into the roadway - so some rigs entered the loop going the wrong way so their door could face their picnic table and away from the roadway. Most folks stay just a night or two.

We could walk from our site directly to the river and it was pretty. There is no dump station and no water fill available, though there are water spigots for rinsing items near the restrooms, and the restrooms had running water at the time we were there (June). We camped at Green River Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

We enjoyed seeing the dinosaur bones, taking the Desert Voices hike (go early in the morning before it gets too hot), taking the auto drive (get the brochure from the visitor's center - $1), seeing the pictographs on the drive (the ones of lizards are really neat!), and attending the ranger talks in the campground (we particularly enjoyed the one on bats).

We were with a group, so I'm not sure about the rate as someone else made the reservations. Sites range from really great to really crummy. The first site we were assigned was dry, dusty and the picnic table was on the hook up side. Our door opened onto the road. There was not enough room for our truck and we would have had to park way on the other side of the campground. We were moved to a pull through site, very shady with a path through to the river. It was completely different and very pleasant. This is a walk-up site but there may be similar sites that can be reserved. It was especially nice to have access to the river. Someone had built a breakwater with rocks in the river and the dogs could play in the water out of the current. We camped at Green River Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Rafting the Green River is popular but ask questions before you reserve. Our group had about an hour and a half on the water, out of a 4 or 5 hour day.

Rode around till I found a site that was long enough and would be level on the first try - unlike others that just kept riding around and around looking for that "perfect" site. The area is very scenic. The campground is about 10 miles away from US 40. We camped at Green River Campground in a Motorhome.

A lovely desert campground located next to the Green River. Cottonwood trees provide partial shade for some sites, but most are sunny. Only one loop of the three can be reserved in advance, but we had a large choice of sites when pulling in around 2:30 on a weekday. We selected a pull-alongside site adjacent to the river. The evening winds can sometimes be strong, so stake down any tents. We camped at Green River Campground in a Travel Trailer.

We had reservations for two nights here. The site was easy to access, although the one-way loops were a little confusing at first. Invasive cheat grass is prevalent throughout the campground, although it had been trimmed in the immediate vicinity of each picnic table and fire ring. Lots of shade from mature cottonwood trees and great views, especially near sunset as shadows move up the hillside across the Green River. We camped at Green River Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Beautiful with easy Big-Rig access. No hook-ups and no water fill/dump availability, but bathrooms are available (no showers). Very quiet, beautiful surroundings. Loop 'A' is all 'first-come, first-serve' with at least 3 pull-though spaces that could accommodate our 40'rig & 2 back in spaces that could do the same (a few more spaces that could have fit our large-ness are currently closed for 'rehab'). Camp host was friendly. Some trees throughout that provide shade to some spaces. Trails are nearby and river is visible from many camping spots. Firewood can be purchased right on site. Picnic tables and fire rings (with grill) at each site. Spots are pretty level. Road to access campground is a bit windy, but nothing scary or unmanageable. We camped at Green River Campground in a Motorhome.

This campground was in a gorgeous location along the bank of the Green River. The rock formations are jaw-dropping. Sites we're pull-through and level with fire pits and picnic tables. No electric or water, but no need for a generator once the sun set and it cooled off. Very quiet. We camped at Green River Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Park is five miles from visitor's center on paved road. There are three loops with sites in B and C loop reservable but sites in A loop on a first come first serve basis. All sites are paved with tables and fire pits. Sites in B and C have more trees than A but not that much shade anywhere. No RV water fill, no dump, and no electric! Come prepared and know the commercial RV park in Jensen gives water and dump privilege for a fee. 3g on Verizon, dark, quiet, with magnificent views! We used generator as needed between 7am and 9pm. Overall, great national park campground that keeps it simple. Also, Split Mountain is listed on some apps, etc., as having four sites. It is group and picnic only according to visitor's center and campground host. We camped at Green River Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Coming from Grand Junction, highway 139 is switchbacks over 8,000 foot pass at 15mph on south side, all paved but only one lane at times, slow, scenic, narrow and we did in 36 foot with toad. Jensen is ten miles from campground.

There should be separate categories when rating campgrounds because it is unfair to compare this National Park Service campground to a full-service RV resort. Green River has no hookups but if you are prepared to boondock and love a quiet, peaceful campground in a beautiful setting, this one rates a 10. The campground is along the banks of the Green River with a view of the mountains of Dinosaur National Monument rising several thousand feet above. The interior roads are paved, as is each site. The roads are one-way and easy to navigate in big rigs. Many of the sites are suitable for big rigs. Lots of cottonwood trees for shade. Water faucets (not threaded) at the restrooms. No dump station. Half price ($6) with Senior Pass. The north loop is first come-first served, the other sections are reservable. Surprisingly, I had a 3 bar cell phone signal and 1 Mbps Internet data rate via my air card. Nearest town with any services is Vernal/Naples, 20 miles away. We camped at Green River Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Gave this place a "9" due to location - ON the Green River at Dinosaur National Monument. Electric/water/sewer are not available; potable water was available at the rest-room sites via your own container. Sites were fairly private - roughly 1/3 available for "reservation." Our site was 1/4-bubble level - paved roads/sites. Had stayed here in 2003 - improvements made in the interim. Just a really nice, quiet, and unspoiled natural area. We WILL stay here again!!! We camped at Green River Campground in a Motorhome.

Typical NP campground – sites are spread out well. No hookups. Some foliage between sites. Roads and sites are paved – road is a little narrow. No Wi-Fi of course, although it is available in the visitor center. On my AT&T phone I was able to get an Edge connection that allowed access to the Internet, although it was slow. We camped at Green River Campground in a Fifth Wheel.
