The park is beautiful . The campsites are spacious and private for tents and trailers/rv"s of maybe 25 ft or less . The auto road up to the top of Mnt Ascuyney offers outstanding views . The big drawback for me is the highway noise from Interstate 91. It is more than noticeable and constant day and night and for this reason I would not camp here again unless it were just an overnight stop . But for a day use trip up the auto road its worth going here . We camped at Mt. Ascutney State Park in a Tent Trailer.

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Mt. Ascutney State Park was the last stop on our week-long ME-NH-VT camping trip. We stayed for two nights, checking in on the last Friday in August. The campground was VERY empty. I counted about half a dozen occupied sites. It was so quiet, maybe a little TOO quiet. The ranger (young man) at the entrance was very helpful when checking in, and had no problem getting a couple bundles of wood out of storage for us. We took the auto road up, hiked to the top, and climbed the observation tower. Our campsite was quiet and spacious, no road noise and well secluded from the other sites. Very primitive and peaceful. No hookups, but the water spigot was directly across from our site so it was easy to fill our 5-gallon jug to refill our pop-up's water tank. Our gray water tote and cassette toilet were easily emptied at the dump station on the way out. Claremont, NH was just a short drive from the campground, and it was fun to explore town a little. We camped at Mt. Ascutney State Park in a Tent Trailer.

Overall Rating:

No electric , water , or sewer at campsites. This is camping in the true old school fashion. But a beautiful park with plenty of hiking trails and a steep climbing auto road that will take you up to some nice views but not to the top of Mnt. Ascutney. You have to hike the rest of the way for that. There are some sites that would work for I would say up to a 28 or 29 foot trailer/RV. Lots of good tent and pop up sites though. It is a quiet, natural place if that's what you like. Like all the Vermont State Parks we've been to, the staff were helpful and friendly. Seemed to be a favorite place for Porcupines at night for what ever reason. Worth a few days visit for sure. We camped at Mt. Ascutney State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Date of Stay: September, 2011 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

Overnight stay Mt. Ascutney State Park is just off I-91 at exit 8 between White River Junction and Brattleboro, Vermont. There are 39 tent/trailer sites located in two loops in the woods. We have a 25ft RV and had no problems fitting in. There were no pull throughs but some of the sites are big enough for at least a 30 footer. You can not drive up the Mt road to the summit with any RV over 24 feet but the campground itself is at the bottom of the mountain. There are no hookups but there is a restroom with one shower which is pay like all Vermont State Parks. The park costs $18 per site and there are also 10 lean-to shelters, the parkway auto road, extensive hiking trails, picnic shelters, wildlife viewing and sometimes you can spot someone hang gliding from the top of the mountain. There is a recreation field within walking distance from some sites and a number of the hiking trails take off from the camping area. The small village of Ascutney is a short drive away for restaurants, gas and other stores. This was another CCC campground. The auto road in the summer is used for auto, bikes and running races up the road. We camped at Mt. Ascutney State Park in a Motorhome.
