We love Cherrystone. There is so much to do. The staff is always friendly and helpful. Tons of activities for the kids. Blue crabbing was a success this year. The camp cafe and arcade could use a face-lift. The laundry facilities are nice and large. Bathhouses were clean. The roads to get into our actual site were a bit hard to back into. Sewer situation was a bit wonky with the sewer being a lot higher than most travel trailers. Overall, good experience. We camped at Cherrystone Family Camping & RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Been here several times and never disappointed in the facility. The weather, that's another matter. We have been going here with a group for their Mothers Day weekend special (pay for Friday, get Saturday FREE) for a few years now. Problem is the weather rarely cooperates at that time of the year. Think we are going to move this back a couple of weeks next year. On the plus side, it's never crowded that time of the year.

Chose you site carefully. Some are large and spacious like 185-244, others in the area of 150's and such, are smaller and can be a challenge to get into. We were in site 193 and it was wide enough to put my 24 ft TT in sideways. As I have seen in other reviews the sites are mostly grass, (or sand if you are closer to the water) and get muddy when it rains. Looking forward to going back again in the summer. We camped at Cherrystone Family Camping & RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Overall the campground was satisfactory. Site was waterfront and the view was excellent. Site could use some gravel as it rained when we first got there and site was wet and muddy the whole week .Big problem with Fruit Flies so I would not recommend you go here in late September and early October. Bathrooms was clean and Wi-Fi was nonexistent. No cable but plenty of local channels. We camped at Cherrystone Family Camping & RV Resort in a Motorhome.

This was our first stay at this campground. We got site #652 for 9 nights. The campground was completely full the first weekend which resulted in a crazy experience with unsupervised children flying around on their bikes at night with no lights on them. This is against the posted rules but no one enforces the rules. I was almost hit several times walking my dog when they come flying up behind you. They also fly up beside and in front moving vehicles so beware! Here's the bad first: the sites are grass covered ( no gravel ) with black dirt under it. When it rains, the water ponds everywhere and doesn't drain for days. Your site becomes a flooded black mushy mess with your tow vehicle sinking into the muck. We put out crab pots in the bay between the campground's piers at low tide and someone later goes out and moves our pots to a completely different spot, turning them over and took our crabs out. This happen twice on two spots. Another camper that I spoke got his crab pot stolen that same day. People need to leave things alone that don't belong to them! The good part: They pick up trash three times a day, the interior roads are mostly paved. The express check-in saved a lot time and effort when we arrived on a sold-out weekend. Otherwise, it would have been a 30 minute plus wait to check in. If you've never been here before, this place is huge so I wanted someone to escort us to our site. If you don't ask, you don't get one. They have a reasonably priced cafe and general store on site. We liked this campground but it was a bit pricey for what they offered. We camped at Cherrystone Family Camping & RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Just back from a week at Cherrystone & loved it! The campground was very clean & staff was always friendly. We stayed in our own RV on a WES site. Electric worked great which was needed this week as it was HOT HOT HOT! (AC ran all week!) There were activities all week long, but our group (kids & adults) were happy crabbing, fishing & swimming. Pool area was clean. We also enjoyed floating in the bay on tubes. During low tide you could go out far! Bring water shoes as the shells can be sharp.

The bait shop had plenty of supplies needed for crabbing & fishing. The main store also was well stocked. The Café & ice cream shop had lots of choices too. The guys did a trip on the Miss Jennifer & had a great time! Can't beat $30 pp for 3 hours of fishing. They have a great fish cleaning station near the laundry room. Sunset's were gorgeous - even on cloudy nights!

The only reason it wasn't a 10, was the little things - sewer connection was higher up than our RV connection, the beach area by Pier 4 could have been cleaned up a little (trash from the bay seemed to collected there), Wifi wasn't great but that's OK bc it kept the kids (& adults) off the electronics, pool needs some maintenance (concrete bottom coming up in pieces), all 5 pool tables in arcade were out of order. Again, it was just the little things. All in all, a great trip. We camped at Cherrystone Family Camping & RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.

For a RV resort I would have expected that when campers leave a site that maintenance would clean the site before the next arrival and mow the high grass around the poles and would also provide fire rings at every site. We camped at Cherrystone Family Camping & RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.

We were there for 12 days in October. One of the weekends had Halloween activities. We did not partake in these but state park was closed when we wanted to be here. During October it is close to full on weekends. A lot of kids, bikes and golf carts buzzing around. You could get hit by something, since they do not watch where they are going. Adults or kids. Our site was on end and very nice. Would not go back in October. Fee was average during time there. We camped at Cherrystone Family Camping & RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed the Wednesday, Thursday, Friday before Halloween Saturday. The first two nights the campground was empty. Friday night was quite busy with families pulling in and decorating for the big night. Almost every campsite is near the water or has some kind of view of the water. Be aware that some of the waterfront sites have had substantial erosion. There are lots of activities for kids. We put our kayaks in the water and had a very nice paddle. If you like watery sports, there are lots of things to do here. We ran into people who have been coming here for 30 years (came as kids, now bringing their kids). Added bonus, the campground is owned by the same family as the Cherrystone Aquaculture Company and they farm clams and oysters right off shore. You can get oysters and clams at a good price from the "plant." The plant is on the same road as the campground, and you can walk, bicycle or golf cart over to pick up yummies. In warm weather they also give tours for a nominal fee. We camped at Cherrystone Family Camping & RV Resort in a Motorhome.

It's a great park if you like to fish or crab. The pools and water park were really nice and not crowded. Alot cleaner than most parks we've been to. However the restrooms/bathhouses were messy and definitely need to be upgraded. No hooks or shelves in shower stalles and several had broken plumbing. The golfcourse is outdated and had several maintance issues. I will admit that the views were great and everyone was friendly, overall a good park. Yes, we will consider staying again. We stayed here for 5 days. It was a very nice campground. The check in staff was not the friendliest but the rest of the staff we encountered were helpful and friendly. The wifi was good. Easy to connect to. The sites were close. This was the first time we found that they want to park sideways across the site and not back in. We didn't know this and we backed in so having long enough sewer connection was an issue. We didn't use the showers/restroom at all. There are plenty of activities to do here - fishing, crabbing, paddle boats and horse & buggy ride on Sunday evening. The store is well stocked which is great because the nearest Wal-Mart is 40 minutes away. We did get the Sunday morning breakfast at the restaurant - it was good. The views and sunsets are amazing. We were there when the park was not the fullest which was nice. The memorial site that they made is a wonderful tribute to those who lost their lives there during a the summer of 2014 during a trouble storm. We would stay there again. Very close to the Cape Charles beach. We camped at Cherrystone Family Camping & RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

We have stayed here twice, once in the spring, once in the fall--from descriptions of others, we're glad we haven't been here during summer season. Park is well maintained and attractive--our off-season weekly rate water view site was $43 a day. Many conveniences include a store, a good restaurant, a laundry. We would give the 725 site park a top rating except that there is no recycling and no advice on where to find recycling centers--environmentally irresponsible. I love this place. Normally we tent camp but took a travel trailer here. It's just easier when you have more people and the weather can get hot.

I was so heartbroken for this place when I heard about the weather related accident this past year- they seem to have bounced back.

Management is usually good and helpful. The sites are a little smaller and closer together than some places, but there's lots of waterfront sites available, it's clean and there's tons to do. Fishing, boating, swimming, clamming, crabbing....you name it. It's a super summer place to kick back with the family and they are really good about having lots of different entertainment type options and events for all ages. The kids are never bored here. And if you don't have good luck with your fishing and shellfishing endeavors you can walk right down to their little store and buy some fresh seafood to throw on your grill. Good camp store on site too.

The only thing that bugs me is that darned Chesapeake Bay Bridge. Costs about $25 to go across (ouch) and it's a heck of a long scary bridge. I am not a bridge fan and this is one of my least favorite bridges. Cherrystone is worth it though. Best time to go is in the summer when you can really take advantage of all the water activities it has to offer. We camped at Cherrystone Family Camping & RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Bring your rafts, water toys, fishing gear and cooking supplies. Last time I went they had little dinghys you could rent to putter around and fish in.

There's no other sights or attractions in the area- you come here for the park. Once we get parked and set up we usually stay put when we come here.

Cherrystone is a great family campground. There is so much to do for the kids. They have added a jump pillow which the adults had more fun on then the kids. We go every year for 8 days and never run out of things to do. The water park and pools are well maintained and staff is always available if you have a question. Previous reviews are pretty accurate. Very friendly and helpful staff. Very large park, W/E excellent. Sewer hookup was horrible. We have a class A that rides fairly high and it was still impossible to dump. Not only was the sewer located about 8 inches above the gravel pad, the pipe then extended another 8-10 inches above the ground. Simply stated, sewage would have to flow up hill 8-12 inches. Didn't happen. We probably will stay elsewhere on our next visit to the area. We camped at Cherrystone Family Camping & RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Second of three Halloween weekends! Very crowded with a whole lot of children everywhere. Heads up or you could be run-down by wayward bicyclers. Lots of activities for the entire family. We took our 7 year old granddaughter and she very much enjoyed the trick or treating at participating campsites. Our campsite #342 was very spacious and we had plenty of room to spare. Very close to general store, mini golf and playground. It appears there's no rhyme or reason to how the campsites are organised as far as tent verses RV's. Most tent campers had fires going which made the area extremely smoked up to the point it irritated the eyes and nose. The only rule I did not agree with was not allowing 1 day reservations. We did not want to stay for 2 days. When you pay to make the crossing via Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel ($$), you don't want to get there and be turned away because you are a walk in and there's no site available. Overall, cleanliness, level sites and pleasant personnel made this a successful stay. We camped at Cherrystone Family Camping & RV Resort in a Motorhome.
