50 amp FHU which is nice for a state park. It's in a quiet and peaceful area with not much around. To get to shopping you have to cross a toll bridge/tunnel that will cost you $18/trip. The sites are pretty close together. The ones that back along the road (like we had) were a little more private and had some shade. The ones in the middle were in full sun and you had people in front of you or behind you as well as to your sides. The hiking/biking trails were a nice perk and the swimming beach was nice. The non swimming beach (where dogs are allowed) had multiple dead fishes, birds etc which made it not really a good place to walk. I know this is nature and dead animals will happen but this was excessive and I've never seen anything like it before. Sites are pretty unlevel so choose wisely. Ours was impossible to level w/out blocks but not as bad as other sites we saw. The sites are also grass so it's going to get muddy during rain. The only trash dumpsters were by check in which was a good .25 mile walk from the campground and not convenient at all. The bathrooms were nice and very clean. I didn't check out the showers. OTA channels were plentiful and Verizon was 22 d/l and ATT was 31 d/l unboosted. We camped at Kiptopeke State Park in a Motorhome.

Nice state park located near the Bay Bridge Tunnel so can access Virginia Beach and Norfolk easily. Huge sites- not all level but can choose your own out of available sites. Fairly busy but quiet and very clean. Rangers are extremely nice. Would absolutely return. We camped at Kiptopeke State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

A very nice, large park. We were able to pick out our own site out of 3 loops that are mostly full service. A few are just electric and water. The sites appear not to be very level but if you pull up far enough, they level off. That is - the land rises up away from the road, so you have to pull back far enough to get to the level spots. This is a beautiful location with lots of trails and water access. It is right over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel heading north. The staff was very helpful and pleasant. Bathrooms were very clean and there is a laundry facility provided as well. We camped at Kiptopeke State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

We were fortunate to camp here during off season. We had a reservation but were able to pick any site we wanted. All sites are back in and I can imagine during the high season it can be very crowded but for us, during the third week of November, it was perfect. The hiking trails and the beaches in the area were nice with our dogs. We had a water heating issue so we used the showers on site. They were dated but served the purpose with warm to hot water. The Camp Host came to visit and was incredibly nice chatting with my husband. The park itself is just tremendous and we will most certainly come back again during the off season. We camped at Kiptopeke State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This is a great place to camp. The RV sites are fairly level and not close together. All the sites are back-in and grass but they were firm and did not get muddy even after raining. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring. Some of the sites are full hookup while others are E/W only. They use to have cable TV but took that out about a year ago when they upgraded all the electrical pedestals. They put in a wifi system ($5.95/day) that is great for streaming. You can also get local channels out of Norfolk. The park, overall, is well kept with plenty of hiking trails, a large fishing pier and beaches. We camped at Kiptopeke State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Just across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel from Virginia Beach. Nice State Park with plenty of activities for fishing and boating on the bay. No pull through sites.

(Has 30 amp and 50 amp electrical hookups, but no sewer.) We camped at Kiptopeke State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We loved Kiptopeke and will be returning for a longer stay! The park programs and staff are awesome, they truly enjoy their work and are very friendly as well as knowledgable. The beach was great and easy to get to, loved the dog beach too. The sunsets take your breath away. The only reason I did not give a PERFECT score is due to the fact that the dumpsters are a good ways away by the entrance although there are recyclable containers near the campsites (when you have a dog you need trash disposal a little closer or at least pet waste disposal bins) We camped at Kiptopeke State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Cape Charles which is nearby has a great ice cream shop called Brown Dog Ice Cream and they serve doggy ice cream as well for your furry pets. The beach and parking in Cape Charles is all free too if you want to spend the day exploring this little town.

Nice park with lots of tent camping and full hookups all mixed together. We camped over the Labor Day weekend and it was full. But no issues even though a lot of people. Wonderful grass areas - all mowed. Dirt roads in some areas though need attention. No trash bins anywhere near campsites for some reason. Never seen that before but trash is 1/2 mi from the campsite near the front gate. Very odd. Very nice place but $43 a night is way above our budget. We would have to think about it before we camped here again. We camped at Kiptopeke State Park in a Motorhome.

Park is really one big field (except for the lane with the shaded sites) with an enormous width to the sites between the power poles. We could have parked our Itasca Navion three times over! Grass, so no tracking mud inside. All good, except for a lot of privacy. The beach is a comfortable walk away, and Wi-Fi is free at the camp store, about half way there. I really liked the park and will be back. One exception however; our neighbor gave us a bag of crabs (great, thanks neighbor!!) and we wanted to dispose of the shells etc. after dinner.... no trash receptacles.... anywhere! Finally asked the camp host and to my amazement they referred me to the camp entrance over a mile away! At one point they had recycling bins and trash bins, but they did away with them because "people made a mess". Sorry, but taking the trash bins away is not acceptable to me. We always dispose of our trash on the way out, but we were hooked up and didn't have a toad, and a 2 mile walk for crab shells was just too much to ask! We camped at Kiptopeke State Park in a Motorhome.

We camped here in July 2013 in a motorhome. It was my first experience camping in a state park and probably my last as the bathrooms were very dirty. Showers needed to be cleaned badly. We camped at Kiptopeke State Park in a Motorhome.

The electic/water sites are all on one big area. Some places aren't very level but it should be possible to get leveled up. There is one restroom for all of the electric sites, but it's large with plenty of showers. There is also a laundry facility. There are plenty of trails, a nice swimming area, and lots of beach for fishing. It's a long ways down the Delmarva peninsula to the park and the toll to cross the CBBT with a trailer is prohibitive. We will find an alternate route next time. We camped at Kiptopeke State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This was a great place to stay. The sites are not all that level in some spots but we were able to get level pretty easily. They have some nice trails, beaches, and fishing. They also have my second favorite shower that I've come across in 2.5 yrs of travel. Pretty good pressure, great hot water, and a big shower enclosure. They even had cable TV. We had OK Verizon MiFi reception but it was slow. Roads were paved and sites were sand. We would have stayed longer than 1 day but Hurricane Sandy was head this way so we hit the road. We camped at Kiptopeke State Park in a Motorhome.

We camped here one night enroute to the Outer Banks. The office staff was courteous and helpful. We had an electric site which was available on a first come first served basis. The weather was horrible with heavy rain and storms throughout the night, so we did not do any exploring. The wife and kids advised the women's bathroom and shower facilities were dirty. Otherwise, our site was reasonably level and the park looked pretty nice. No issues maneuvering our rig, which is 53 feet long. We camped at Kiptopeke State Park in a Travel Trailer.

A nice state park with a great fishing pier, a nice swim beach, good trails and a competent, pleasant staff. The campground is one of very few and may be the only VA state park with sewer hookups and cable TV. Unlike many Virginia State Parks, the camp sites for RVs are close together and not very private and there is almost no shade. The tent area is much better shaded although the sites are still close together. There is a lot to do in the park but not much close by outside the park. Because it attracts a lot of boaters and fishermen make reservations particularly on the weekends. We camped at Kiptopeke State Park in a Travel Trailer.
