Great location right on Rt 13 before Chesapeake Bay Bridge/Tunnel. Large campground with over 300 sites, very nice pool and beach. Small cafe serves basic food, good sized camp store. Friendly, helpful staff. Good for a few nights stay max. We camped at Sunset Beach Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Make the drive to Cape Charles. Nice small town beautiful beach, free fishing pier, Central Park. Don't miss Brown Dog ice cream-homemade super creamy & not real expensive!

Surrounded by a wildlife refuge and right near the Chesapeake Bay bridge. We loved staying here. Private beach that rents kayaks and chair/ umbrella, two pools, a dog park and dog beach, great restaurant, well equipped exercise room, gift and snack shop. We found the resort so fun and relaxing that we rarely left. They had great live music down at the beach area each weekend night. We camped at Sunset Beach Resort in a Motorhome.

Easy check-in with escort to site. No shade at all except along 1 side of campground has slight shade on rear of coach. Our full-hookup, 50 amp site #299 was grass with soft dirt. They have runners down for the tires. Site was easily leveled at first, but our rear jacks with supports sunk, and we had to add double supports and re-level. Sites have ample space between to be comfortable. No sites really have a water view, but we had a "peek-a-b00" view between some trees. However, the water is a short walk. Dogs are allowed on the beach, but the part you're allowed on is very small as each side is a restricted wildlife refuge area with postings that no one is allowed. So, there's no walking the beach. They could've done a better job of picking up beer/coke cans & cigarette butts from the perimeter around the restaurant/bar/pool. The campground itself was clean, and the workers were courteous. They just need a little more attention to details. Food at restaurant was good. Their exit strategy is crazy and inconvenient without any real communication as to how to exit. You can't exit at the entrance, plus there's a dump station, and one would assume the exit would be convenient to that. It is not. So, make sure you find out how to exit before you are packed up to leave. There isn't much to do in the area except beach, pool, restaurant/bar. That seemed to be the reason most were there. There is a state park up the road, and Cape Charles has a marina/beach, but is very small. We erroneously thought the area had more..not the campground's fault. We won't be back to the area, but if we did, we'd try a different campground. It just wasn't for us. We camped at Sunset Beach Resort in a Motorhome.

Our site was chosen for us before arrival. It was located right in front of the bathroom entrance next to the hotel parking lot, even though the park was virtually empty. After three tries, we were assigned a more suitable site. The site was level and clean. Utilities all worked fine and the wi-fi was excellent. The pool was clean, with good furniture and lots of lounge, umbrellas and chairs. The beach was small, but nice, although there was trash that needed to be picked up. The bathrooms were fairly modern but not clean, and we determined that there was no thorough cleaning done in the four days we were there. Although they advertise shuttle service in the local area, we saw no shuttle, and, when we asked, we were told that a driver was not available. The front desk person took our number and indicated the manager would call us the next day to advise the schedule. There was no call, so we asked again at the desk and were told the same, but, again, no one called the next day. We went up the following day and "signed up" for the shuttle and were told that someone would call; again no one called, and no shuttle bus was ever visible. We camped at Sunset Beach Resort in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

There is a nice wildlife refuge and welcome center just across Rt.13 with walking trails and an excellent 3 mile paved bike path that takes you to Kiptopeke State Park. There is a very nice campground, trails and beach at Kiptopeke State Park and we decided that, on our next trip to the Cape Charles area, we will stay at the state park instead of Sunset Beach.

This is a great park if you have dogs. One of the best we have run across in 14 yrs of RVing. The dog park is huge, big enough for us to throw the frisbee for our dogs. There is an off leash beach for them to romp on and at low tide, you can walk out to a sandbar with the dogs and they can run like crazy out there. The sites are large enough for our 43ft. rig and room to park your vehicle to the side. But not in front or behind. Sites are all back in from what I could see. The pool is very nice and there is a fun bar/restaurant right on the beach and on site. Dogs are welcome. Fun patio with music, corn hole games and tables outside. Perfect for watching the sunset. Lots of sites in this place and I can imagine if it were full, the pool would be super crowed, even though it is a large pool. Nice little store and ice-cream shop in the hotel at the front of the RV park. This used to an open field behind the hotel with a row of permanent residents in some seriously shabby trailers. Apparently they just bulldozed that and redid the entire place. The sites tend to be low at the front and if you have two big rigs back to back, the back will be close. But side to side you have a good bit of room. What would make it better (I hope the owner reads this!!) is another "adults only" pool and hot tub! No kids allowed! We didn't use the pool because there were a ton of screaming kids in it, which is fun for them, but fingers on chalkboard to us. Also a dog rinse/wash to get the sand and salt off the dogs when they go play on the beach. Overall, we loved this park and our dogs most certainly loved it! We camped at Sunset Beach Resort in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

LOTS of ticks in the parks nearby, so check yourself and your pets for ticks after you walk them! No problem at the campground, just in the woods nearby. Sunset at Jack's Spot on site is a must. Bring a frisbee and ball for the dogs to play in the dog park!

Sunset Beach Resort is a very nice campground right on the Chesapeake Bay. The sites were fairly level and large enough for our 50' rig. There are lots of amenities that we did not use. They are pet friendly and have an off leash dog park and beach. The utilities worked just fine with no issues. The wifi worked all across the park and was very fast. They have a hotel and store with two restaurants onsite. You really could stay here for a week and never have to leave. We will likely be regular customers here. We camped at Sunset Beach Resort in a Travel Trailer.
