We were on site 34 which is a full hook up pull through. The site was level and clean. The staff was very pleasant and accommodating. The area was very quiet for a July 4th holiday week. Some of the site signs are covered with weeds and need trimming. The pool was clean as was the deck area. We camped at Charlottesville KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

I really want to like this park but.... Stayed 2 nights mainly to check out the local area on the way to DC. I will say that the check-in host was very polite. Make sure you take I-64 to Hwy 20 to get to the park. Upon entering the park, there are no clear directions; a stop sign that says "must register before entering," a loop to the left with a sign that says "All RVs" with an arrow; and "Registration." There should really be a sign that says "Stop/Park Here for Registration." I mentioned the unclear signage and she responded basically "yes, everyone says that...." and yet, it's still confusing. There was no escort to my site and the roads are not as nicely laid out as their map and I had to stop twice to study the map and back up twice - some site number signs are over grown and with the lay out, you don't know if you are on the road to your site or driving through a site. Sites are a mix - some really close, some with adequate space. All gravel (mine was gravel, grass, weed and mud). Pool is off and isolated by itself and looked a little murky. "Pet walk" was a muddy, overgrown trail. "Fishing" in the "Beaver Pond" - nope - no access to it unless you want to tramp through mud and weeds. There are KOA standards as far as playground, basketball, and a game room. Wifi was slow but adequate for email, text messages (I had no Verizon signal), browsing and simple posting to FB. Satellite would be difficult in the park due to trees. Cable was clear with about 16 channels - didn't try OTA. This could be a nice park but considering the overall condition and the price, I doubt I'd stay here again - Its definitely more of a $30 park than a $51. We camped at Charlottesville KOA in a Motorhome.

I had planned on Montecello but could not get a ticket. Take a trip to the Pedestrian Mall in Charlottesville - about a 12 minute drive - lots of shops and dining.

Overall Rating:

This is a very over-priced, run down campground. We stayed here because we wanted to visit places in the area. It is like they have put no money or effort into this place for the last 20 years. If they charged half the price, it would be a decent value for the money. The sites are tightly packed in. Fortunately, there was nobody on the one side of us. The campground is heavily wooded with gravel for the parking and the "patio" area. I can see that grass next to the RV would get run down, so we put out a mat. But in the grassy areas where people are not walking on, the grass is mostly weeds, stones and dirt or mud. The pool is very secluded and very uninviting. The bathrooms were relatively clean, but musty and are generally unappealing. Husband tried to use it in the morning and somebody was taking a shower - the bathroom was so steamed up that water was dripping from everything. Another time, it was so hot that it was unbearable (no ventilation). The "game room" is old and musty, but spacious. The laundry room was clean with plenty of washers and dryers (none large capacity though). On the positive side, the clerk was polite and helpful, the campground is quiet and some campers will love the rustic environment. We camped at Charlottesville KOA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

There is so much to see in Charlottesville - the Pedestrian Mall, the Court Square and the University of Virginia. Also nearby is Monticello, James Monroe's Highland estate and James and Dolly Madison's estate. For less expensive ventures, the Walton's Mountain Museum (kind of hokey, but a scenic ride down there) and the town of Scottsville - lots of history.

This was our first time staying here over Memorial Day Weekend. The campground was not full and was very quiet for a holiday weekend. This is not a very big campground and was one of the friendliest I can remember going to in sometime. Site was nice an level with plenty of room. Restrooms were nice but could have been cleaned a little more frequently. This is a CG where you turn off your phone and computer - WiFi and phone reception was not very good. Pool was nice and clear and well maintained. We would stay there again. We camped at Charlottesville KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Site 34, a pull through. Roads are tight, but not scary, for our 43' coach. Barely got level, but otherwise OK. Full hook up including basic cable. 15 minutes to Monticello. Park is quiet. Showers are clean and hot; the small laundry is usable. Adequate dog walking in the surrounding woods. Seems like recent owners are working through rehabbing the whole property. Adequate ATT data service; PBS on OTA, not on cable. We camped at Charlottesville KOA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Monticello is definitely worth the cost and the time. Jefferson Winery tasting is recommended. Bring food and sit on the lawn for a couple of hours and watch the cows. The University area is very densely packed; outside of town is not crowded and just gorgeous (in May). Trader Joe's, Costco, Walmart, etc. are all about 15 miles north of park.

This C.G. is in a near perfect location for visiting Monticello, Monroe's Highlands, Michie Tavern, and several winery's. All are within a 10-15 mile drive, and it's only 10 miles to downtown Charlotte. Getting to the C.G. from I-64 is easy, although the road is quite narrow, winding, and hilly. Signage to the KOA is good. All utilities worked well. Wi-Fi was worthless. C.G. roads are easy to navigate. Many sites are close together, but sites 32 and 34 are pull-thrus that provide considerable privacy. We would stay here again. We camped at Charlottesville KOA in a Motorhome.

Website says suitable for Big Rigs. It is not. Nice little campground in woods and pleasant setting but now for large Motorhome. We have 41' and with tow almost 65'. 7 miles of well paved road to get there but very narrow and winding and lots of tree overhangs. Narrow interior roads that are tight and winding with lots of trees overhangs. We made it but you have to go very slow and be watchful. Campsites are narrow and ours was very unlevel. Nice staff. Great little KOA near Charlottesville VA. Very clean and tidy. I didn't use the showers but my husband used them and said they were very clean. We pulled in on a Saturday with reservations, had a nice level spot that backed to the woods. Great location to Charlottesville, spent the day downtown and at a winery. This is a typical KOA Park with all the amenities they typically offer and it is in a beautiful wooded setting. The draw here is a pleasant forest camping retreat or visiting the many historic sights in the area. Staff is friendly and helpful. A staff member pointed out several sites where Verizon reception might be possible, but it was very weak and unusable for all practical purposes. We managed to get Dish satellite reception from our site but many sites would not. We had a choice of sites and the staff identified the one that had the best possibility of getting reception. We did with the assistance of a stand and a picnic table to support our portable antenna. The hand dipped ice cream in the store is delicious! We camped at Charlottesville KOA in a Motorhome.

Monticello is the big draw here for obvious reasons but don't miss Montpelier and Ashlawn-Highland if you have even a passing interest in our founding fathers. We enjoyed the food and rustic environment of Michie Tavern. The "behind the scenes " tour at Monticello is worth the extra money.

We paid $45/night week day and $50/night weekend. Subtract 10% KOA discount and add 10% tax and our avg nightly rate was $47.50. It's important to read the KOA website to obtain driving directions. They have good road signs but pay attention. Go slow, take your time and don't miss the entrance. If you're big, avoid the circle in front of the office. We parked on the right side of the entrance road to check-in and unhook our toad. There was plenty of room for others to pass. The reservation process is always easy with KOA which is a big plus. Check in was friendly and efficient. Once we settled in and realized everything we wanted to see in the area, we added extra nights. The staff kindly accommodated our request without us having to change sites. We had no problem leveling or reaching our hook-ups. All hook-ups worked perfectly. CG wifi was okay. It dropped quickly with inactivity and it slowed during peak periods. However, later in the evening, we were able to stream Netflix. Verizon cell was OK but Verizon MiFi had zero signal. We were able to obtain DirecTV at our site but, with all of the trees in the park, I imagine many sites can't get satellite (although a remote dish would probably do the trick). This KOA is a tucked into the lovely Virginia hills and is a beautiful place to stay. I agree with a previous reviewer that this is a hidden gem. It's roughly ten miles to Monticello, Michie Tavern and Ash Lawn-Highland. It's about 35 miles to Montpelier (absolutely worth the drive). If we were in the area we would definitely stay here again. About 4 miles from the CG is a little gas station and mini mart on Hwy 20 which has fairly-priced diesel. Upon departure we drove RV and toad separately to the station, got fuel and then hooked up on the side of their yard. We camped at Charlottesville KOA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

A regular grocery store (Giant) is about 13 miles away so plan accordingly. At Monticello take the free guided house tour and slave tour. Ash Lawn-Highland can be done in a couple of hours but don't miss it. Montpelier is the highlight of them all with it's beautiful mountain view. Skip eating at Michie (over-priced with so-so food). Take the Michie self-guided tour in an hour and move on. Check out City Market farmers market - Saturday mornings only.

This is a hidden gem and not your typical KOA. It is located about 8 miles from Rt 64 and Charlottesville but only 10miles from Monticello. It is small, it's quiet and sets in the woods. The sites aren't necessarily as level as they should be but okay. It is quiet and a beautiful setting. Nice walking path through the woods that we and our dogs loved. Rt 20 to the park is curvy so drive carefully. We loved our stay there and would return again. We camped at Charlottesville KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed four nights in site 13. The CG would be more attractive if the leaves were raked up. The walking trail around the CG would benefit from some clearing. It is a beautiful area and close to Monticello. The dog park is small but served its purpose. The staff were very helpful and the man came right away to make sure our tv was working and hooked up correctly after we mentioned that we had poor reception in our last CG. Sun was directly in our eyes inbound to the CG and made for a difficult drive. We camped at Charlottesville KOA in a Motorhome.

This park is located in a very beautiful part of Virginia. Be sure to follow the directions listed on their web site to find them and not the GPS. Our GPS took us down some very narrow, windy roads not suitable for RV travel. The sites are gravel, very close to each other and would benefit from some leveling. The grounds have real potential, but the place needs to be raked! All the old and downed leaves make it look very untidy and unkempt. Interior roads are narrow and a challenge to navigate. We needed to back out of our pull through site as the neighbor had pulled too far forward to allow him to level his RV. We camped at Charlottesville KOA in a Motorhome.
