We made reservations at this park. We did arrive to camp there, but some of our plans had changed since reserving, and we realized we were further from VA Beach than we had hoped. We might have stayed at Northwest anyway, but then we discovered that there were only about 2 spigots of water for each 4 campsites. Since we were already not feeling positive about the location (our fault completely, NOT the park's fault) we decided to call another campground in VA Beach and were able to camp there instead. This camp seemed very nice and the people working there were helpful. We have no gripe with the camp EXCEPT that, upon making reservations, it should be made clear that each site does not have it's own water spigot. In our case we would have had to run a hose through someone else's site to fill up each day or so. We camped at Northwest River Park Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $26.00
Overall Rating:

We had a great weekend here in mid November. Sites are spacious and wooded-comparable to state parks. Some sites would be a bit hard to back in for a large RV due to trees. We had site 4 which was a pull thru. Beautiful hiking trails and a pretty lake where you can rent boats.

The only downside is that water is shared. The spigots are next to the road and spread throughout the campground. We pulled up to one and filled our fresh water tank before pulling into our site. With a very long hose and a site near a spigot some people did hook up to them. I showered in bath house and while old it was reasonably clean. Used dump station on way out which was fine. We will definitely be back. We camped at Northwest River Park Campground in a Travel Trailer.

The CG is run by the city of Chesapeake, Va. It has gravel/dirt sites, which were level. Some sites have electricity. Bathrooms clean but very rustic. Concrete walls hold the cold, so no showers for us wussy Florida types. Did laundry but had to call the ranger to make it work. They had changed how much the laundry cost but that was not listed anywhere. There was a long walk along a forest trail. It is a very wooded area. We ended up being the only people to stay the night at the CG which was a bit spooky. We camped at Northwest River Park Campground in a Motorhome.

Nice wooded park. There is some road noise and if you can't sleep through "the sound of freedom" (military aircraft) you might want to consider another location. This place is close to several military bases, all with air support. Roads are gravel and sites are too. Showers were nice and clean with OK hot water. The pull through site we were at was easy to get into to, but we had to unhook the toad and back out of the site to get out. We pretty much had the place to ourselves with only 2 other campers in the CG. All in all a nice spot that's out of the city. I'd stay here again. They have some nice bike/hiking trails and in Oct bugs we're not an issue. We camped at Northwest River Park Campground in a Motorhome.
