Too many year long residents and most of the trailers were vacant. Staff is awesome, which is why this place receives excellent reviews for services and staff. Common area unfortunately has many piles of dog droppings. Very small campground, spaces are a little tight. Could be an awesome park if they clean it up and remove all the old trailers and year long residents. Great cable, hot and cold WiFi, close to the interstate and right outside the entrance to Douthat State park. We camped at The Buckhorne Country Store and Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

This could have turned into a bad review, but the owner made it right. Made reservations for site 11 with 50 amp service and all hookups. Employee gave our site to another, when we got there an employee said all sites were taken, but did find our reservation (I made reservation with him recognized his voice from phone call) and said he had nothing. I was in a bad mood already from the drive and told the owner and employee I'd go elsewhere. The owner, came out while I was trying to find another campground, offered his apologies and to use a 30 amp site with water, no sewer for free. My wife encouraged me to use it which we did. The site was small, but accommodating. I stayed connected to the 5th wheel (32') because of the small space. The owner did everything in his power to make everything OK and have a satisfied customer...his employees need customer service training and a better reservation tracking system rather than a bunch of papers in a notebook. This campground is small and has a lot of permanent residents with many older trailers. The campground could use the sites to be better maintained...the permanent residents accumulated a lot of unneeded "stuff" at this campground. The dump station did not have water outlet to wash out sewer lines and sewage. The cover on the dump station sewer needs to be redone and has a broken weld. Again, the owner is extremely nice. We camped at The Buckhorne Country Store and Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

C&O Hertitage center is in town. If you are a train buff, it is nice. Thr store at Buckhorne sells Hershey's ice cream, which is a nice treat.

This really is just a small, basic campground with a country store as the office, but it met all of our needs, was clean, quiet and spacious. If truth be told, this is the kind of overnight stay that pleases us the most. It was $ reasonable with a level pull through site and plenty of room to walk the dogs. The full timers were friendly and quiet. Can't think of any negatives. Would definitely stay again. Not a destination campground, but great for a night or 2. We camped at The Buckhorne Country Store and Campground in a Motorhome.

Good location. Not a a lot of extras, but the price is right. Did not get Escapees discount on check-in. My fault ,but they fixed it the next day. The cable did not work at my site #12. They told me the cable was not working in the site when I booked in March. Yes, as in other review the water is not all that good; it stinks and stains. Good stopping place. We booked for 2 weeks, was too long, ran out of stuff to do in the area. Again the record rain fall caused problems on the rivers and lakes, but not the park's fault. Quite a few of full timers there but they are nice people. One of them will be by to visit, she's easy to get along with and knows everyone! Easy to find, easy in/out. We camped at The Buckhorne Country Store and Campground in a Motorhome.

Store looked great, lots of people come out for the ice cream!! State park was great too, lots of trails and great place to eat on the water. Kroger grocery store right up the road in Clifton Forge. Walmart in Covington a few miles away. Take the drive over to downtown Lexington, fun times there!

Park slightly rundown. Nice store. Near state park and convenient to I-64. Staff was nice. Lot spacing was nearby with some shade. Site surface was gravel. We camped at The Buckhorne Country Store and Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Still a good stopping point after traversing WV on I64. Power was good, we didn't use the water or sewer ,as it was a short stop. Store is well stocked and restrooms clean during our visit. They had a free country music concert the night we were there. Rate given reflects the Escapees RV Club 15% discount. We camped at The Buckhorne Country Store and Campground in a Motorhome.

Owners are good folk and it is a very family friendly park. Although probably 50% of the sites are taken by long term residents, all of them were friendly and outgoing. The small general store is pretty well stocked and there is actually a beauty shop! They sell Hershey ice cream and it's a popular hot spot for the locals. (the ice cream is great btw). Although we had some very heavy rain, the gravel is thick enough that there were only a few mud holes. Other reviews noted that the water is very high in iron and sulfur, so we filled the fresh water tank before we arrived. The sites can be tight for long rigs. We were able to get our 40' into a spot though. The Wi-Fi signal is iffy and drops frequently so we used our Verizon connection. It's hard to say negative things about this place. Yes, it needs work. Yes, the water is terrible. The sites can be tight, but it is a very friendly park and that counts for a lot. We camped at The Buckhorne Country Store and Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed one night. Next time will spend extra $ and 5 more miles to stay at State Park up the road. The bathroom was clean, but rustic and OK if you don't mind a sulfur water shower. We got sick from drinking the well water. Hosts were very friendly. We camped at The Buckhorne Country Store and Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Nice small park. Very friendly and helpful. Largest load of firewood ever received for $5. Was able to get satellite by sitting dish in grassy area across the lane from site #8. Site #8 was deep enough for me to get my motorcycle in and out (I was backed in). Would stay here again We camped at The Buckhorne Country Store and Campground in a Fifth Wheel.
