A really awesome place. The RV park itself is basic. 15 sites, located on a river, with full hookups. That's about it; no bathhouse, no office. But it's location, just over the river from Damascus, but with green forest and the sound of roaring rapids to sooth you...wow. Loved it. Biggest trick here is the REALLY steep gravel driveways down to the sites. Saw many rigs bottom out and scrape parts. The owners are not on site. There is zero ATT, although Verizon is ok from what we heard. The WiFi is solid though, so we were able to communicate adequately by e-mail, etc. Why do people come to Damascus, VA? Aside from the beautiful mountains, lush forests and mountain streams...apparently 200,000 folks a year come to ride the Virginia Creeper Trail. A 34 mile long former railroad bed has been converted into a destination bile path. Damascus is right in the middle of the trail and supports at least 6 bike shops that offer bike rentals and more importantly...shuttle service to the top of WhiteTop Mountain where you catch the trailhead for the upper section of the Creeper Trail. Mostly downhill, with some steep sections at the top, it's a thrilling and beautiful ride from 3700' to 2000' back in Damascus, crossing some 23 train trellises and following babbling brooks and roaring rapids. Lower half is 17 miles from Damascus to Abingdon. Much flatter, this section meanders along the river and thru some farm country. Green and pastoral a very relaxing and enjoyable ride. At about the 9 mile mark is the former train station of Alvarado, which has a very nice park by the river with picnic tables and restrooms. We camped at Laurel Creek RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Damascus is a very small town, supported almost entirely by the biking and hiking crown (it's a trail crossing for the Appalachian Trail) so there isn't a lot of here, here. Aside from the bike shops and B&B's there is a gas station, Subway, pharmacy, pizza joint and a grocery store.

Right on creek and next to VA creeper trail. Full hookups worked great. Quiet campground and great location. I would stay here again. We camped at Laurel Creek RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Location,Location,Location! Park backs right up to the Laurel Creek for a great setting. This is a no frills place to park while you explore this great area. There are no extras, just a great place to park with water, elec, and sewer. They have the fastest free Internet of any park we have ever stayed in. There is no office on site but the owner is by every morning and loves to talk. He is a good guy. We were there during record rain fall and the park had a drainage problem but they were bringing in loads of gravel and working to correct it when we were leaving. Owner let me pay the monthly rate even though we were only there for 21 days, it was cheaper. We camped at Laurel Creek RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Watch carefully for the sign at the entrance easy to miss, don't worry about the steep decline entering the park. It's not that bad, BUT DO TAKE CARE when crossing the bridge and making the curve from the highway to the park road! Great location for exploring Damascus. Book your Creeper Trail ride with SunDog outfitters, they were great. Take a day trip down to Boone NC and jump on the Blue Ridge Parkway

Overall Rating:

This park has recently opened and is going through some growing pains. The entrance and exit roads for the park are steep but manageable. The trees on the streets leading to the park need to be trimmed big time. The entire park is on packed shale and needs to be re-graveled. There are some pot holes but nothing major. Twelve of the fifteen sites back up to Laurel Creek. All sites have full hookups with 20/30/50 amp electric service. The electrical voltage is excellent, hovering around 124. Each site has a picnic table and there are two fire rings at either end of the campground. The campground is located on a quiet street and it was nice to sleep hearing the rushing water. There is no bathroom, showers or Wi-Fi at this campground. The price reflects the weekly rate. Daily rates include the cost of electric but weekly rates do not. This campground is within walking distance to the town of Damascus, the AT and Creeper trails. The cost for staying at this campground is a bit steep but that appears to be the going rate in this town. This park has lots of potential and the owners are doing everything they can to get it right. Our rig is 32 feet long. We camped at Laurel Creek RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.
