Overall Rating:

Very nice and clean park. We stayed in July during the week (5 days) and the campground was less than 1/2 full. We had a premium pull through site with a concrete pad so the site was top notch and level. Showers house had a/c and was always clean. Very quiet and peaceful during our stay. Although the staff is very friendly, they don't understand the way an RV turns so they gave us less than ideal directions to our site forcing us to make a tight turn that could have easily been avoided by sending us down the correct road. Lots of shade/trees throughout the campground. Some of the streets are tight especially in the "older" (never updated section) designated for tents and small units (so avoid those roads with larger rigs). Overall a great campground when on a site that matches your rig/needs. A little pricey, but you are paying for the convenience to be next door to Kings Dominion with shuttle service. We camped at King's Dominion Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Kings Dominion is a nice amusement Park - clean and well cared for. The campground is clean and well cared for as well; however, it was built in the 70's and you can tell that it doesn't fully appreciate today's modern equipment in regards to lenght. Campers just need to be careful to stay on the right roads as some are not designed for large units.

This is a true 'campground' for those who love to be close to their neighbors. While there are some 'rv park' type sites for longer motorcoach vehicles, with pull thrus, most of the sites are for tenting, pop-ups, and shorter back-ins. Trees shade most of the park, which is nice during the hot summer months for most campers. It's pricey, but convenient to Kings Dominion, and a free shuttle runs every few minutes. While other parks might be a lower cost, and less folks close by, the convenience of leaving the car at the campground trumped. The shuttle also allowed us to let the teens come and go to the rides when they so chose, not something that we could have done at a park 10 miles away.

Our site was short, but my 17 wheelbase made it acceptable, though it was wet and muddy right outside our door because of recent rains. The site on our driver side was never used, which was actually nice for us, since it was so muddy on the door side that no one would accept it for the money they were being charged.
Wifi was easy to attach to, but was only clocked at 1 to 1 1/2 mbps, not so great, but doable.
While the main 'streets' are mostly asphalt, ours had a severe turn near the end, and many trees had limbs encroaching the height of a class a or fifth wheel.
During the summer months, especially weekends, this place is packed - kids and parents walking and biking all over, dogs being walked constantly, and RVs of all sorts coming and going. This is not an 'rv park' for those of us who are looking for an overnight stay.
The facilities, overall, are acceptable, and probably fun for those weekenders and vacationers looking for that 'camping' experience with their neighbors. We camped at King's Dominion Campground in a Motorhome.

This campground is what you should expect from a major entertainment park. Very clean on neat. We visited late in the season so the campground was pretty slow which was great. We didn't spend much time in the campground but while we were there it was very nice. We would stay again if we are in the Richmond area. We camped at King's Dominion Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Doswell is near a lot of Civil War sites, but other than that; Kings Dominion is about it in the way of attractions. Few decent restaurants in the area, so cook at your campsite or be prepared to pay for high priced food at the park.

This is my second review of this campground. A very quick stay here this time around. This is the campground next to Kings Dominion, and offers a free shuttle to the park that runs regularly. The campground is nice, they have upgraded many of the facilities, upgraded camp store, new bath house, upgraded area of pull throughs, though the water and electric section we stay in has not been upgraded, with gravel, hard to follow roads and tight entry to the sites. The sites are level and shaded, however. Electric and water was in good shape. The picnic table was falling apart though. The shower house was unexpectedly a mess on Sunday morning when I went to use it, very dirty, as if it had not been cleaned overnight. Still a great place to stay if you are going to the park, and I am hoping this was just a one time issue. We camped at King's Dominion Campground in a Travel Trailer.

This a nice park that has mostly paved roads and sites. Our site was very unlevel forcing me to use all my leveling blocks. Water pressure is very high so regulator is a must. The bathhouse was very clean throughout our stay. The shuttle service to KD is great because you don't have to pay for parking. There are a lot of trees so there's always good shade and we had no issues with getting TV or WiFi signals. We camped at King's Dominion Campground in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed 2 nights. The theme park was closed. It opened for weekends on the morning we left. There were no more than 10 sites occupied during our stay. Paid for a "Premium" site. That was a mistake.

The park has easy access to & from Interstate 95. Access could be a problem if the theme park is open.

The interior roads were mostly paved with a few being gravel. The roads were very narrow with tight 90 degree turns. The sites were a mixture of concrete & gravel but narrow. The sites were very close to each other so there wasn't much privacy. The utility connections were about mid way down the sites. The cable connection was below grade. The sites were generally level. It seemed most of the sites had an outside table and fire pit.

The tree canopy made satellite reception hit and miss depending on site assignment.

WiFi reception was adequate for checking email.

The designated fenced pet area was adequate for small to medium sized dogs. It might be a little small for large dogs. It was in a far off corner of the park. There was sufficient area to walk dogs along the park roads. There was a bag dispenser next to the fenced dog area to pick up waste. There were trash cans around the park to dispose of waste.

No dumpster available but there was site garbage collection.

For being in a hazardous/severe weather area, there was no underground storm shelter. None of the structures in the park were identified as a severe weather shelter.

Noise (public address system & ride noise) could be heard from the theme park in the campground.

Would not want to stay there when the theme park is open due to daytime noise and campground congestion. We camped at King's Dominion Campground in a Motorhome.

I reserved a standard site for one night. We have used this campground as a one night stop to and from Florida. We followed the directions to our assigned site and found the girl directed us in the wrong direction as the hookups would have been on the wrong side. So we maneuvered through some sharp turns and returned to the site to discover the site was not long enough. We drove back to the office and they assigned another site which was barely long enough. Then I discovered a note on the electric pedestal stating the sewer was defective. Back to the office and a third site assigned. This site was long enough but then I discovered the sewer hookup was filled to the very top with sewage. Finally I drove to the new elite sites and took a site and called the office to let them know what I did. They were OK with it. This section is only about a year old. Mostly pull thru "buddy sites" tightly fitted. The water pressure is EXTREMELY high. WiFi does not work. Cable TV had about 30 good channels. This will be our last visit to this campground. We camped at King's Dominion Campground in a Motorhome.

Newly remodeled campground, brand new level concrete sites with 50 amp full hookup, pull-throughs, fits the biggest. Marine pedestal connections. Brand new bath house, camp store, cabins. Feels like RV resort. Downside is that current construction is super noisy, nonstop, dusty, and on Saturdays too. Our new water spigot did not work; campground provided long hose for us to connect to next spigot. Workers are super friendly. Trash pickup from site. Walking distance to park. Shuttle every 30 minutes. Free Wi-Fi super strong. We camped at King's Dominion Campground in a Motorhome.

This was our first time camping at the Kings Dominion Campground for a weekend stay. We got there at 7 PM and was able to check in at the office. I asked if they could switch us to a pull-through site since the web site had none available at the time I placed the reservation. They had a site open up which was a lower rate so they put us in site # 233. I have a 30 ft travel trailer and it was very easy to make the turns into our paved site on the first try. The spot was paved but sloped which put the front of rig downhill. That took a lot of leveling blocks to make bring the front-end up and level. The campground was laid out well with lots of trees for shade behind the office and some sites in a open field in the side nearest to the park. I have small kids so the pool at the campground was a nice treat. The odd thing was the rules at the pool. The life guards are very strict about kids wearing life vests, no goggles with a nose piece or other float toys. The Wi-Fi is strong near the office but gets weaker on the back-side of the park. The shuttle comes every 15 to 20 minutes to and from the park which is an added bonus of not having to pay $15 for parking and it drops you off at the front gate. During the day, you can hear the screams from the riders of the roller coasters and the fireworks at night. The campground is next to the train tracks through the trees which has scheduled trains coming through. We liked this campground since it very close to Kings Dominion and for the shuttle so it’s a good choice when visiting the park. With that in mind, I still think the prices of the sites are a bit high. We’ll be back with it comes time to come back to Kings Dominion for another visit. We camped at King's Dominion Campground in a Travel Trailer.

We chose this campground for its convenience to Kings Dominion. The price was very affordable. The campground is well tended and has trash cans readily available around the park. What a great way to keep the grounds clean! The bathrooms were immaculate: A/C; super clean; smell nice; well lit; conveniently placed; good shower pressure. We had bees nested under our concrete pad. We notified the desk and the Manager came out immediately to inspect. He sent for the appropriate staff, and an Assistant Manager and a woman from the Facilities Dept came right out. They got rid of the bees and the Manager came the next day to ensure that the bees were gone and we were satisfied. We were impressed that some staff were wearing ties. We've already recommended this campground to others and will definitely stay here again. We camped at King's Dominion Campground in a Tent Trailer.

We have stayed here before and had a site to the right side of the main road. That area was paved and the sites were mostly level. This visit was a last minute call and we ended up in rustic area behind the office/swimming pool. It took a little work to get level because of the many roots. The water and 50 AMP service were good. This campground is in the midst of a renovation, with a well stocked, renovated camp store, newly renovated bathrooms and showers, freshly paved interior roads and renovated big rig pull-throughs. Brand new cabins were being installed toward the back of the campground. With that said, we stayed in the water and electric sites that have not yet been renovated, though work has begun there. Site had a level concrete pad, water and electric worked find, though pedestal was old. Nice pool, free Wi-Fi throughout the campground that was strong enough to upload photos, and a free regular shuttle to Kings Dominion. Close to I-95, with little road noise, but an occasional train coming down the nearby rail line did wake me up at night. Very good for an overnight stay off the highway or if you are going to the park. Price reflects a 10% AAA discount, they also take Good Sam or discount if you have a Cedar Fair season pass. Site we had was gravel and level. They also had concrete pads in the wooded area for smaller trailers/popups. Bathhouse was clean & maintained. Nice pool. $60.90 a night with taxes, a little high, but if you are going to Kings Dominion, they have a shuttle, so you save on the parking fee. They do have some Discount Prices (10%: Good Sam, AAA, Military, AARP, and Season Pass). If your are going to Kings Dominion it is a good location (you can hear the park from the campground). We've stayed at this park twice in the last couple of years, only because there are no other campgrounds in the area and this one is right off of I-95. This is a large campground but not well taken care of and expensive. The help is horrible and not helpful. They sit in a little hut behind glass and act like you must be a bad guy. You have to ask many questions to make sure they are charging you the right amount. They have many various rates and don't explain them to you. They just charge you what they think is right. We questioned them and then had to get a refund for their errors. The first site they assigned us was only 30amp. We went back and told them we needed 50amp and they gave us another site. When we got to the site, there was no way we could get our 40 foot RV into the spot. We just decided to find our own spot (there were plenty of empty ones), which we did. They have no cable and poor TV reception. There are too many trees for satellite, Wi-Fi at the office only (which is not close) and they have a 13% tax. There just isn't anything to say good about this park. If you can plan your trip so that you don't have to end up at this campground, you will be much happier.
