Price listed includes tax, cable TV and WiFi. This is our third year coming in late August. This is one of our all time favorite places to stay. Clean, quite and friendly owners. About a block from New River which offers a great bike trail, kayaking, etc. Lots of events in area. Nice ice cream shop in town at the old train koboose. Nestled down in a little cove between two hills covered in tall trees so you have cooler temperatures and a smalll stream runs along side most the sites. We camped at Fries New River Trail RV Park in a Motorhome.

Stayed a week to attend the Bluegrass Convention in Galax, VA. Nice park, quiet, and easy to park our motorhome. Host gave us a ride to Galax to get our rental car and provided good info on the bluegrass venue. Will gladly stay there again. We camped at Fries New River Trail RV Park in a Motorhome.

We loved this place. Very peaceful. Site was beside the creek with a deck that was over the edge of the creek. People were very friendly and helpful. Nice place to walk the dog in the RV park and then on the trail which is across the street. There is a big open park by the river across the street and down a hill. It has picnic tables. Had to drive 20 minutes to Walmart to get AT&T cell signal. Campground had good wifi. Most of the sites are in a row along the creek. There are some that are more private. Call and let them know what you are looking for. It is a beautiful setting. We camped at Fries New River Trail RV Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Fries (freeze) is a tiny town on the New River. The roads to get to the RV park are a bit narrow but we made it fine with a 45' MH and toad. This park is small, and as others have said, beautifully landscaped. There is a stream that runs through the park, and most sites are on the stream. Some sites have decks and others have terracing. All have a swing or a swing nearby. The sites are dark gravel but it is large enough that it isn't attracted to the bottom of your feet. The layout of the park is quite unusual which actually affords more privacy. Some sites are nose to tail and others have more separation. Except for a buddy site, none of the sites are right next to each other. Good job! The park is a bit off the beaten track and, as expected, Verizon coverage is low with 1x and occasionally 3g 1bar. We were able to get texts and minimal phone coverage using our extender. There is a US Cellular tower in Fries so I assume that would work fine. Luckily, the WiFi works great. It slows down periodically and will kick you off after a long while but for the most part we had no problems. DirecTV satellite worked fine in our location. The water pressure is low at 20-25 PSI. For the most part, it is very quiet except for the occasional dog's bark or shooting of firearms (yep, guess that's normal in these here parts). The owners are wonderful - even sharing fresh homemade muffins when you arrive (and they were delicious!). As for payment, they take credit cards for the deposit and cash or check for the balance. The New River bike trail is just across Main street. It is a fairly flat trail that follows the New River. The trail itself is fine gravel, and there is some shade. It was great to have a nice trail so close by. We really enjoyed our time here. It's one of those places to "chillax" sitting outside listening to the creek. Our lounge chairs got plenty of use! We camped at Fries New River Trail RV Park in a Motorhome.

Beautiful, quiet place to relax. The stream flowed right outside our door, with room for the dogs to get a little exercise on their leash. Reservations are a little difficult as you have to leave a message and the town is nothing much to speak of, but I would go again to wind down. If it was paved it gets a 10. Lovely park. Gravel road is just a bit dusty, but the sites have rock that is not, so stuff stays clean. Beautiful setting and a cute little town. The draw here for us was the rails to trails bike trail just across the street. Awesome riding for just about anyone from the leisure cruiser to the cycle cross cyclist looking for a workout. I highly recommend this park. The owner is super and he runs a well groomed place. If you have kids and they like the outdoors they will love it. They can bike, hike, fish explore, and there is a riverside park across the street with a playground. We booked a week and already booked another week as we will be passing through the area again. Our sprint cellphones worked as did our AT&T hotspot and satellite. We camped at Fries New River Trail RV Park in a Motorhome.

The campground owners make a point to get to know the campers and the friendly atmosphere is what brings us back year after year. We enjoy riding our bikes on the trail and just sitting outside in the shade of the mountains in this quiet campground. Full hookups, neat and appealing landscape and hiking areas leading to hillside swings all add up to a nice place to relax. The mountains are beautiful in full color. We will return. Love Virginia, and, totally in love with Fries, Galax and Fries New River RV Park. Follow the directions on their website - roads are narrow & twisty but doable for Class A's. This is a quaint, small, immaculately maintained, well thought out, just about perfect place to rest, refresh, and get back in touch with whats important in life. We were in a full service site (30 amp) that was parallel to a small creek which was just perfect for a Class B with a sliding door - heaven! They offer cable TV, WiFi, and a bathhouse as welcoming as the one you have at home. The New River Bike Trail is right across the street and if you forgot your bike they have one for you. From the time you check in at their picturesque office cottage, sit a spell in their rockers, chat about the area, you'll know you are "home". Tips for other Campers:

Venture out to the Thursday night Bluegrass Jam Session in town at the historic Fries Theater and they'll have you hand clapping and stomping your feet in no time at all. Soak it all in - this is some of the best Virginia has to offer!

Visit the Bluegrass Museum on the Blue Ridge Parkway to learn all about the history of the Town of Fries and catch the daily jam session. Galax Restaurants: Creek Bottom Brewing - great craft beer with an exceptional food menu. Galax Smokehouse - WOW, great BBQ. Try the Smoked, Deep Fried Baloney Sandwich - outstanding! Scoots - really good down home cooking. Daily special sells out early!

We are so glad we came here! Our site was right along the little stream that runs through the campground. There were kids catching crawfish, looking for frogs and just generally loving nature. The site is all gravel, but extremely well set up with plenty of room for us to relax outside. Owners treated us like family friends; checked in on us daily to see if we were okay. Loved it!!!! Great little campground. It is only 16 sites, but for what it lacks in size it more than makes up for in friendliness and a quiet environment. Since it is so small, and the owners are so friendly you quickly get to know most of your fellow campers. The week we were there, one of the campers had everyone over to their campsite for a get-together! The park itself is very nice and very quiet. It is truly somewhere to go to get away from it all. It does not have all of the amenities that many parks have (no pool, dog park, laundry, etc.), but that is not why you would go there, you go there to enjoy the quiet and friendliness of the park. That being said, they did have cable and pretty good internet included. If you want to go, reservations are advised as during our stay there was hardly much time when there was an open site; as soon as someone left, someone came in to take their spot. One note - There is NO AT&T cell and spotty Verizon coverage. I was able to use the Wi-Fi for my cell phone, so keep that in mind. Previous reviews mentioned the roads and yes, the roads are windy narrow country roads, but can be done. We visited in a 44 MH pulling a car and made it without issue. Just follow the directions on their web site. We camped at Fries New River Trail RV Park in a Motorhome.

First get the name right. It is not Fries like something you would eat. It is pronounced as Freeze. You will quickly be corrected if you make the mistake. LOL On a 1 to 10 scale I give this one a 9. Only because I don't think it is large enough and more people should be allowed to enjoy this one. An extremely well kept campground for sure. The owners take extra great care of their campers and park. Only 16 sites , but each and every one has a ton of room and all the hook ups are clean and taken care of. Not sure if there is a rig too big that these sites can't handle. Somebody thought this RV park out really well. His bath house and rest rooms are spotless. Walk straight out of the RV parks road and you will walk right up to a nice over look view of the river. Just follow the road down to the river grounds. A well maintained local park on the river awaits you. It is also the start of the flat no hill NEW RIVER TRAIL. Bike riders will love this place. We were here for the 4th of July week. If you want a place to sit back and relax this is a great campground to do so at. If you stay here you will like it.

Call ahead for a site. It is a small park and fills up fast. We camped at Fries New River Trail RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

If you want a campground with lots to do around the area it has that also. Did I mention fireworks ? You actually get 2 shows in one night. The local fire Hall has one then the town after that. WOW what a fireworks show for such a tiny town. It was down at the river and can rival any larger city's fire works show. You can not help but get a good view of this show.I will be posting a YOUTUBE video of the show later. Lots to do around this area. The Parkway is not far away and the local music at the town hall theater is nice too. There is of course the fiddlers convention held around here in the early fall also. Largest one in the world I might add.

I would stay here for no other reason than to stay here! Friendly, immaculate, quiet, great wifi, great cable, tasty muffin. We were there was for hiking and biking. The scenery is beautiful and the activities are very nice. The town of Fries is in sad shape, but, even so, it is clean and friendly. Verizon almost works, AT&T doesn't. That said, the wifi was so good, we were able to call family and friends with Facebook Messenger, .and Google Talk. The RV spaces are very large and level. Lots of healthy deer to watch.
