First of all, let me say this review in no way reflects the employees at this park, they were exemplary and we saw them working hard in oppressive August heat.

That said, we really wanted to love this park, we've camped there twice and both times had pretty much the same experience. We have a 40ft Fifth wheel that is all-electric and uses 50amp service. We knew going in the park only had 30amp so we were ready to adjust accordingly. However, the 30amp at site 61 was not true "30 amp" Our PMS service would only allow us to run 1 ac and absolutely nothing else, so when checked we were actually running 27 amps. To run the microwave or anything we would have to shut down the ac. In August, unacceptable. We've run 30amp plenty of times and been capable of running more than just an ac.

Thousand Trails has the bones of many beautiful parks in their system if they could see fit to invest in electrical upgrades and road upgrades. Along with the electric, the road was literally a dust bowl, the gravel used evidently crushes to a white powdery substance that even at the 5mph speed limit leaves a cloud of dust and a covering of white over all your equipment. This should not be so. No one wants to have their units and vehicles covered with so much dust you cannot see out of the windshields!

Again, I know no park is perfect, and even with the dust we so want to love this park, it is a beautiful setting, lake, pool..etc. and not that far from many attractions, Lynchburg, Appomatox, etc. We probably will not return due to the electrical issues in the park. Sadly. We camped at Thousand Trails Lynchburg in a Fifth Wheel.

Nice rural park as others have said. Nearly all full hook up sites and all sites are 30 amps only. Sites have gravel and near all look level, plus nearly every site has good shade cover. Nice big pond and walking trails around the pond, all if so wish you can drive around. Plenty of activities over the weekends we were here. Only small problem we had is the ranger seemed to know less than we did when we checked in, and this was our first time at this park. We camped at Thousand Trails Lynchburg in a Fifth Wheel.

This is an older park in a rural setting. The lake is available for swimming but I wouldn't venture into it due to the quality of the water. This lake needs some serious attention. The interior roadways are all gravel and some are rutted due to erosion. The sites are also gravel and not very level. When we were here the store was not open. Other than at check-in we never saw any staff on the grounds. There were no planned activities during the middle of the week and little on the weekend. The pool was well used but again no staff present. There was a hot tub as well. We went sightseeing in the surrounding area and found the location acceptable. Verizon is borderline 4g and there are few sites that had DirecTV access due to the large trees. A number of sites in all the loops had the power boxes covered. We assumed these were inoperative. Unlike most Thousand Trails/Encore parks there is a high percentage of available sites for travelers. We camped at Thousand Trails Lynchburg in a Motorhome.

Pretty rural location, about 15 minutes from Rustburg shops etc., and 25 minutes from Lynchburg. Most sites are spacious, and I think all full hookups. Well-maintained -- the most gravel I've seen in months! Some amenities, and the roads, are showing their age, but the staff seem to be doing their best. Verizon was strong enough to stream video during the week. We camped at Thousand Trails Lynchburg in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

Our Thousand Trails campground turned out to be bit of a disappointment for various reasons. Apparently, I did not research the location of the campground well enough and as it turned out the campground is 25+ miles from downtown Lynchburg. In addition, there is no cable or campground-wide WiFi. WiFi can be accessed at the clubhouse. There is a very pretty lake, which one could swim in, but it looks kind of yucky, there is a lot of green stuff growing in the lake where one would swim. More than half the campsites in the section A do not have sewers and the electric is not working. The bathrooms definitely need attention as there is peeling paint, the formica on the countertops is separating, and they are very old and desperately need updating. The pool was nice as was the temperature, but the steps were delaminating. Once I realized that I had made a mistake with the location (as I was checking in and again first thing Friday morning) we contacted the office for a refund for our third night. On Saturday we packed up and asked if we would get a refund and were told that they needed to speak to corporate on Monday. We stayed in section A in space 29. The property itself is quite pretty. Our spot was shaded and there is a walking trail around the lake. Also, there is a small store and a snack bar (with very limited hours). We are not Thousand Trail members and we would not stay there again. We camped at Thousand Trails Lynchburg in a Motorhome.

We were on motorcycle pulling tent trailer so stayed in site as close to the Family Center as possible. All inner roads were gravel and very dusty but we got a great site with shade and right across from restrooms. The buildings were old but adequate and restrooms were cleaned often, however the laundry building had water all in the floor and smelled very moldy. Only one washer and dryer were provided. This park needs some TLC but location was good for driving around area. We had one issue with camper parked next to us that kept a boom box up very loud and disregarded the notion of being too loud if it goes beyond your campsite. When we complained we were told that they were "good regulars." This is another example of a park that has its seasonal regular campers that is becoming a trailer park. I would not stay there again unless it was the only park to stay in. We camped at Thousand Trails Lynchburg in a Tent Trailer.

The weather did not allow using the pool, which looked lovely. The lots were wooded, and gravel. You could see that they have tried to keep the lots level. We didn't use the laundry or restrooms, but they were clean. The staff was friendly. We visited local attractions. We camped at Thousand Trails Lynchburg in a Motorhome.

The "season" for pool and activities doesn't start until Memorial Day weekend but everything in the park was in very good and clean condition (the pool area isn't ready yet). The downside of this campground is the laundry. I don't think many people use it and I certainly wouldn't. It smells bad and there is only 2 washers and 2 dryers. I get the impression that many people come here for the weekends with about 20 or so sites appear to be seasonal users. The sites are pretty level and many have had new gravel put on them. The Staff is very friendly. The restrooms are typical Thousand Trails, dated but clean. We enjoyed the campground and spent most days out visiting the historical areas and winery's. We would come back. The rate reflects Thousand Trails membership. The campground only has 30 amp service. We camped at Thousand Trails Lynchburg in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

The recreation room has multiple pamphlets on area attractions. There is also a walking tour of Lynchburg on Saturdays that you need to call and sign up for if you want to take it. Monticello is about an hour and a half. Patrick Henry's home is within an hour. Many good and interesting winery's are in range.

This park was our first taste of a Thousand Trails park, and wasn't good. We were given a free membership with the purchase of our used motor home. Upon arriving at the park, you have to stop at the front gate and call a ranger via a radio. He comes out and gives you your paperwork and with no other guidance sets you free to drive around and pick out your site. The roads are very rough, some gravel and a lot of dirt, so incredibly dusty. The first site we found turned out not to have sewer; it would have been nice if their map reflected that fact. Our next site (A-23) did have sewer and we stayed there, but it was very uneven. Most of the area around our site was so unlevel it was mostly unusable. Our Verizon signal wasn't strong enough to carry a wi-fi connection. The lake and so-called beach was littered with feathers and feces from the Canada Geese. The pool was closed for the season (on Sept. 6th). We walked around later and found that the C Loop looks better than A, more level and all sites had sewer hookups, we think. Of course there is only 30 amp here for electricity. The whole feel of the place is of a run down park that could be beautiful with some TLC and unfortunately lots of money. We would never come here again. We camped at Thousand Trails Lynchburg in a Motorhome.

Preserve is expansive with a large recreational lake with a wide gravel hiking trail through pine woods which surround one side. Three areas with a bath/shower houses near the center of each offer mostly wooded sites with trees between most sites. Bathhouses are checked three times a day and cleaned well regularly. Sites are crushed stone and generally level although narrow on the C loop, wider sites but not as level on the B loop, and more open on the A loop. The entrance and fields around the lake are expansive and mowed regularly. The closest major grocery store is 7 miles away. We camped at Thousand Trails Lynchburg in a Motorhome.

The rate reflects membership in Thousand Trails. We camped here in a 42 ft fifth wheel. The roads were okay, but not great. You are not assigned a designated site and therefore must drive around to select your site. I was able to do this with the fifth wheel, but I would recommend doing this with a car if at all possible before heading to your site. The park is well treed and this created a nice atmosphere. Not all sites are level, but I was able to get one that was fairly level and large enough for our fifth wheel. The bathrooms are a little bit dated, but the men's was clean. My wife did not care for the women's bathroom. Overall, as things are breaking, the repairs seem to be temporary fixes. I joined Thousand Trails on an impulse, but should have done more homework. The parks are older and on the downswing in general. We camped at Thousand Trails Lynchburg in a Fifth Wheel.

The day we arrived, on Labor Day, there was some kind of big private party winding down. We were told that if we wanted to use the pool or spa we had to do it that night because it all closed for the year that evening. We pretty much had our pick of camp spots and we picked a place with lots of afternoon shade and near the adult lodge with it’s nice deck overlooking the lake. We've enjoyed checking out the mini-golf course here, although the “fairways” are pretty littered from the trees. The biggest feature for me has been the trail around the pretty lake. I've walked it everyday and I think its the nicest feature of this campground. The adult lodge has a deck overlooking the lake. The sparsely populated park, the distance from the lights of town, some clear skies, and some cool lights have made for terrific star gazing. We've been able to see the Milky Way, lots of satellites, and even a few shooting stars. There are several interesting places to visit in the area, including Appomattox and Thomas Jefferson’s Poplar Forest. Verizon 4G cell data is very good. We were on C-Loop, apparently preferred by the seasonal residents. However, the other side of the park looks just as nice and is closer to the pool and main activity center. I can’t tell you what this park is like during the summer. I can tell you that here in the first week of “off season” that it’s been quiet and beautiful — a good peaceful, relaxing park. We camped at Thousand Trails Lynchburg in a Fifth Wheel.

Some sites are small or on a hillside, others are medium to large but fairly level - so pick your site carefully. The roads are rutted and could use some work. The bathrooms are older, but clean. We had no problem with elec/water/sewer. There is WIFI at the activity building. We got plenty of over the air TV and good Verizon cell coverage. We were there on a rainy weekend so there were only a few seasonal campers, but the kids were well behaved and the wood fires weren't smokey. Staff was friendly. It poured and the sites all seemed to drain just fine. It is about 5 miles to a major grocery. We stayed as guests, rate is for one weekend night and 2 Passport America nights. Our Golden Retriever gave it a 10 for a great place to swim, to walk, to chew on sticks and to get pets from other campers. It is a good location to visit Lynchburg and we will probably stay again to visit family. We camped at Thousand Trails Lynchburg in a Fifth Wheel.

Rate is -0- as this is a member campground. Beautiful lake and scenery, a very peaceful getaway. We were here as the season was winding down, so there were just a few other campers there. Pool closed for the season. They can improve on handicap access at this park--especially in the bathrooms. Very friendly competent staff. Roads are partly paved but mostly gravel, with deep ruts in some CG areas. Lots of the sites were not level, most uphill. Ours had a slight slope with the sewer in the back of the spot, and it doesn't flow uphill. Will definitely visit again, as it is a beautiful park. Visited the park to decide whether to join the club. First of all I was not impressed with the sites. Very rustic, by that I mean they were unlevel for the most part and rough. I have a 33' coach and would be very reluctant to take it to this campground. I asked the security person about the "primitive" sites and she said they were in the process of beginning to improve them. It's a very scenic area with a beautiful lake and amenities. The pool is large. I wouldn't camp here until major improvements are made to the sites. (Only 30 amp available.) We camped at Thousand Trails Lynchburg in a Motorhome.
