Beautiful park. Spacious and level sites with plenty of vegetation providing privacy. Clean showers but pressure was a bit low. Excellent bike trails and fishing piers. We camped at Belle Isle State Park Campground in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

On of the nicest state campgrounds I have ever been to. The sites are large and roomy. Most are wooded and private with ample shade. They consisted of a large driveway, a picnic area with a table, light pole and fire ring, and pea gravel tent area. The bath house was clean and well maintained. Showers were spacious and had 2 3x5 rooms. One for changing and one was the shower. The changing room had a heater for colder months. There were laundry machines on site . The park it's self consisted a good number of hiking trails that we didn't have time to explore this trip. The park is laid out on a big cross with the camp store being at the center. To the left is the larger boat launch that is on Deep Creek. Straight ahead is the beach and picnic area on the Rappahannock River and to the right is the campground and the canoe launch/fishing pier on Mulberry Creek. There is also a canoe (or hike) in primitive campground that I didn't see. The camps store is small but has most necessities you might need. Staff were friendly and helpful. They have low cost ranger programs that are informative and fun. While fishing at the pier that had crabbing 101. All in all one of he better parks in the system. We camped at Belle Isle State Park Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

The fishing and kayaking was great. Not a lot of business or restaurants in the area but definitely try the Corner for lunch. They had a great hamburger. For dinner go to the Oaks. It doesn't look like much but the food is fabulous. I had the rib eye and my wife had the crab cakes. both were perfectly cooked and the salad bar was fresh. Prices were reasonable. Both are in Lively.

Cleanest State Park in VA we have been to. Smaller campground but very spacious and tree buffers between each site. Bathrooms were spotless, lots of trails and the kids were at the water all day. Very safe with lots to do. We camped at Belle Isle State Park Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

From a State Park perspective this place is awesome. Lots of clearly marked trails to hike, beachfront access (we didn't find out this fact until we read the trail map on the last night). From a campers perspective this place is perfect. The road in out and around the campground was WIDE, clean and clearly marked. The campground was immaculate, the bathhouses and showers were clean, the camping spots were WIDE and level. The campground host was super friendly and helpful to everyone in the campground. The sites were not full hook-up only electricity and water. There were lots of clearly marked trails. We camped at Belle Isle State Park Campground in a Motorhome.

Stayed here Memorial Day weekend with several families. The campground is clean, sites are big and private- easy to get into for large campers and trailers, and the bath house is clean. There is lots to do here including picnicking, kayaking, canoeing, biking, boating, hiking, spending the day on the beach. There is a bathhouse at the beach/picnic area, but no shower or outside spigot for rinsing off sand. Although located in a rural area, there ome very cute towns closeby to visit. We camped at Belle Isle State Park Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Closest Wal-Mart is in the town of Kilmarnock, about 20 minutes away. If looking for a church, go to Church St. in Kilmarnock, several varieties of churches available.

We stayed at Belle Isle State Park over Memorial Day weekend. We snagged a spot at the last minute! The park itself is on the Rappahannock river but the campground is not. It is a small campground and the sites are basically off one loop. There are some long pull thrus, and the rest of the sites are back-in. All the sites have plenty of space and trees between sites so you have privacy. There is 30/50 amp electric and water. A dump is available as well. Even though the campground was full, it was pretty darn quiet. Most of the activities take place around the park which is huge. There is a small beach, playground and two places to put in boats. One for larger boats and one for smaller ones. It's a great place for bike riding, walking or jogging as the park roads are quiet. We would definitely stay here again. We stayed here in a motorhome. The rate listed is a little deceiving as we received a night free from a Virginia State Park rewards program. We camped at Belle Isle State Park Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Within a short drive, there are wineries and restaurants. We had some excellent fried oyster tacos and raw oysters at The Dog and Oyster winery in Irvington, Va. Also, make sure and have and/or pickup some fresh Chesapeake Bay crabmeat. It is the best!

Very nice and flat park. Great for short bike rides and canoeing/kayaking. Sites are huge, bathrooms new/clean, nice store, and dump station is nice. Very laid back area and campground was quieter than other VA parks. Water views are awesome. You can rent kayaks and canoes as well as bikes. Cons: lots of bugs due to water proximity, visitor center is empty, not a big park, and not challenging hiking (could be a plus for some). We camped at Belle Isle State Park Campground in a Travel Trailer.

$30 for 50 amp and water and super huge level sites is a great deal. Wi-Fi available at camp store. All the sites are great and level. There is a beach for swimming, dogs can swim in it too. AT&T cell and data service two bars. Middle of nowhere, Walmart and Food Lion are 17 miles away, 30 minutes away, so bring all your food in. 3 motorboats available for rent but must have basic boaters safety license, and they sell out, so reserve boats ahead of time too. Canoe and kayaks available to all. Bike rentals too. Very rural, farm, swamp, and ocean like environment all in the same park. Laundromat at camp. Two dump stations. Super quiet. Highly recommended. We camped at Belle Isle State Park Campground in a Motorhome.

This is a lovely State park and campground. The campground has pull-through and back-in sites with trees and foliage between the sites. Electric and water pressure were good (no sewer hookups). There is a nice lake where my grandson and I rented a kayak for half a day. We had a blast, especially when we saw a couple Bald Eagles. The park staff were friendly and the campground was clean and level. We will return here again. We camped at Belle Isle State Park Campground in a Travel Trailer.

This was a very nice campground with very large sites. There were a number of pull throughs and we were in one. It seemed the sites were all separated by some form of foilage so you couldnt see each other. There were several sites that were next to each other that would have been great to share with a friend. The bathrooms were exceptionally clean and well take care of. We took our bikes and rode the various easy trails they have. The camp host and workers in the park were all very friendly too. We camped at Belle Isle State Park Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Very nice campground in a VERY underused (it appears) Virginia State Park. As mentioned previously, there are lots of trails to bike, hike and ride horses on, you can kayak/canoe/boat from the park, and there is a variety of wildlife to see. Even after Memorial Day, the Camp Store hours are limited (closed on Mondays and Tuesdays). The contact station at the entrance to the park will alert campers as to where to register. There are no designated swimming areas at this park, which may be keeping some people away from the park. Nonetheless, we found our time here to be very pleasant and relaxing. We would definitely return. We camped at Belle Isle State Park Campground in a Motorhome.

Like most of Virginia's State Parks, this one is great. The campground is about five years old and was very well laid out with easy to access level sites. Lots of eagles and wildlife to enjoy, miles of hiking and biking trails. The staff is very attentive and interested in making your park visit enjoyable. We camped at Belle Isle State Park Campground in a Travel Trailer.
