A gem amid chaos. Nice park 22 miles from DC. Stayed in site 67 - only area of Park really suitable for MH. Heavy shade so no satellite, a few over the air digital channels. Level, gravel sites with full hookups. We camped at Pohick Bay Regional Park in a Motorhome.

Easy access to Metro about 30" away for touring activities in DC. For a state park campground, it was a beautiful, peaceful setting. No WiFi, but phone reception was OK. We camped at Pohick Bay Regional Park in a Motorhome.

This was our maiden voyage with our Aliner Ranger 12. We stayed only the one night at site 28 with electric but not water. The site was quite down hill but we made it work. We enjoyed the proximity of the trail down to the Potomac River overlook, as I felt like I was hiking, even though I was eight weeks out from sustaining a broken ankle. Fire ring without grate; nice picnic table; no alcohol allowed; small store to purchase wood. It was a bit chilly, so we did not use the showers, choosing to wait until we got home. We camped at Pohick Bay Regional Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall very pleased but be advised not all sites have water or sewer. If you book through Reserve America they do not make this very clear. I found out from reading a review here and called the campground office. My site 91 (and all of the sites in the 76 to 100 loop) do not have water. For a short trip up to 4 or 5 days this is not and issue for me. They do have potable water right at the camp store when you check in. My camp site was plenty long enough. The reservation system said 45 foot site and it was 65 ft long, plenty of room. The camp store was fairly well stock for its size. The bathhouse for the loop we were in is a bit of a hike from some of the sites. The park itself have a lot of trails, a pool and 2 boat launches. Mini and Frisbee golf courses. Plenty to do. Excellent jump off point to DC which is what we used it for. We camped at Pohick Bay Regional Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Campground is convenient to the Lorton commuter rail station and not far from the Franconia metro station for trips into DC. 2 shopping centers less that 5 miles away. one just north on rt 1 has an Ihop, Dominoes pizza, Food Lion, post office, Italian Rest., Golds Gym among others. The other on Lorton Market Rd had a Glory Days sports grill , Chinese and Japanese rest., and anothe food market. We used the back roads to get to the metro station with good results. avoid the mess on I95.

Overall Rating:

This is a lovely suburban park about 5 miles from the Springfield, Virginia, metro station that takes you into Washington, DC. We tent camped with a group in an overflow camping area on a weekend in late October. The park was pretty full, but thinned out Sunday night. Very clean and modern restrooms and laundry facilities. Cabins available to rent. Playground for the kids. Also a water park that is open during the summer season. Well-stocked camp store on site. Easy hiking trails, including one that takes you about half a mile to Gunston Hall, home of George Mason, one of the Founding Fathers whose Virginia Declaration of Rights served as a basis for the Bill of Rights. RV spaces have full hook-ups or electricity only, are heavily shaded, have easy access even for big rigs, and provide enough room for privacy and quiet. Dump station on site. Picnic tables in overflow tent camping were pretty worn so a tablecloth is recommended. Beautiful area, but because of its proximity to the suburbs you won't see a lot of wildlife. Also, being only about 3 miles from a busy highway you could occasionally hear sirens at night. Still, a great option when visiting the Nation's Capital. We camped at Pohick Bay Regional Park in a Tent.

Tips for other Campers:

Lorton VRE station (6 M) offers 2 easy ways into DC. Commuter Amtrak was direct to LEnfant station near Mall. ($8.40) Or use connector bus (371) at Lorton to/from Franconia Springfield Metro station which is the last stop on the Blue Line. Buy a smartrip metro pass for bus and metro use. Use VRE app for Amtrak commuter line. Good access to everything by foot from LEnfant.

Upon arrival, check in was easy. Got to our site and was able to back in. After getting the travel trailer level, hooked up power to get the AC running. The AC ran for 30 seconds then quit. After looking at my power monitor, the power was steady at 104 volts and would drop to 102 volts with the AC running. We called the camp office and one of the staff and the maintenance man came out with in 10 minutes. They explained that the part power was on the old system 208 volts and they were trying to get it upgraded to the standard 240 volts. Unfortunately, my surge protector would not allow the unit to keep power with the low voltage. They did offer to get us a site at Bull Run, but we declined. Brad did get our money refunded and a voucher. The park seemed like a very nice park with shaded sites. The staff was great and responded quickly to our phone call. The reason for the marks at '4' is because of the power issues. Other than that, I would have been a great park.

This is the first time we encountered a low voltage problem. being a retired electrician, I have a very good surge protector / monitoring system. Reading about all the issues with power at RV parks, it is good to protect your RV. We also have a water pressure regulator and keep our water pressure just under 50 PSI. We camped at Pohick Bay Regional Park in a Travel Trailer.

I found it very frustrating to pay for a 50 amp full hook up camp site (71) and have the power kick off repeatedly each day. We have a progressive energy management system wired into our power bay so it was protecting us or alerting us of the low power. Probably 15 times per day. I called maintenance to see if there was a problem with our power pedestal only to be told the system is old and can't handle all the units pulling 50 amps. We were probably at the end of a run of power, but seriously I can't see paying that much for a site that doesn't deliver. We needed the sewer hookup as it was our first one in weeks and there were no other sites available. But if I can only draw 30 amps why am I paying for a 50 amp site. Be aware in the summer it will be difficult. We camped at Pohick Bay Regional Park in a Motorhome.

There is a very long multi use bike trail that runs down Gunston rd in front of the park and into Mason Neck State Park. George Masons plantation hall was right down the road and $8 for seniors over 60.

We preselected our site on a previous trip to make sure we could fit in as the sites vary quite a lot from basic camping to full hook ups. Access is good but there is a height restriction on the route that GPS will take you so plan carefully if you are tall! This was our second stay to be near the grandkids and it is perfect for us... quiet, well shaded and maintained. We camped at Pohick Bay Regional Park in a Motorhome.

We arrived during a rainstorm, but even bone dry it was nothing but impossible to level out our 30 foot motorhome. One of our leveling jacks was thrown out during this. The camp staff moved us to a site near the comfort station that contained much more gravel and much less mud. The bathrooms had mud tracked throughout on consecutive days, and were generally dirty and not maintained. To his credit, the campground manager helped me fully retract my damaged leveling jack. I very much appreciate his level of customer service. We camped at Pohick Bay Regional Park in a Motorhome.

Staff very friendly and helpful in finding us a site for an extra few days during a busy weekend. Well maintained park and facilities. We chose a site without a water connection, but water is available near the office. One of the best campgrounds in the Washington, D.C. area. We camped at Pohick Bay Regional Park in a Motorhome.

Beautifully wooded, natural setting. Two bathhouses in main campground. Very clean. Laundry on-site. Good over-the-air TV reception. Good Verizon signal. Great campground for people with kids. There is a playground at the campground and another down near the boat ramp on the bay. Campground staff provides activities for the kids on the weekends, ranging from scavenger hunts to arts and crafts. Pirate's Cove Water Park is right next door, but if you are counting on using that, be sure to call the park directly to check when it opens and on what days. Mini-golf and disc-golf are nearby. It's also a great place for boaters and fishermen (boat ramp nearby) and people who like hiking wooded trails. My only caution is that many of the sites are pretty un-level. If you have a motorhome or a trailer much larger than a pop-up, you might want to call the campground office directly (rather than going through Reserve America) to make sure you book something suitable. Also keep in mind that very few of the sites are full hookup and most don't even have water. Just electric. So be sure to take care of your tank situation accordingly. As other reviewers have mentioned, you can fill up on water by the ranger station/store when you pull in, but it is very crowded there. There is a single dump station available on the way out. We camped at Pohick Bay Regional Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

This is a great place to park the camper and explore the Washington DC area. George Mason's home, Gunston Hall, is adjacent to the park. A couple of miles down the road is Mason Neck State Park, a great place for hiking and bird watching. Mt. Vernon is an easy drive 10-12 miles north of the park. Old Town Alexandria is just north of Mt. Vernon. The Franconia/Springfield metro's blue line is about 10-12 miles away and will take you right into DC and all of its attractions.

Nice little "transit" campground. There were a few campers but this seemed more of an overnight drop and go. Other than that...on Friday this place turned into tent haven. Tons of tents, kids etc. Very loud campground surprisingly. The RV sites were great. Big and flat. Lots of room between campers. To me 60-71 were the best sites. I had 71 which to me was the best site in the campground. Only issue is that there is a kids field behind these sites and there is no clear exit so you have kids walking through your site to get to the road. The campground should provide a few clearly marked exits to avoid this for campers. Other than that there are hiking trails right at the campground. Ranges from .5 mile hikes to 4 mile. Great look hikes. There's a great lake with fishing opportunities. Boat rentals of all sorts there. We enjoyed it. Full hookup was great. We camped at Pohick Bay Regional Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed here and went back and forth to Washington DC. Only about a half hour ride in that drops you at the foot of the Memorial Bridge/Arlington Cemetary. Very convienent to and from. You can park at Arlington for a fee. We parked along the potomac river (free) which is convienent to walk to all the monuments. 3 hour parking limit but that's plenty. Arlington Nat. Cemetary. Consider renting a bike from Capital Bikeshare. Easy to see all monuments.

A very nice place to stay, especially if visiting DC. Bathrooms and heated showers were in tolerably good shape, but always seemed a bit muddy from people tracking in dirt. Never saw them "spotless", but they were clean enough to use. Woodsy feel and sites are reasonably separated. 2 each washers and dryers at each bathroom, in good working condition. Good access to DC by driving to Franconia-Springfield station, an easy 20-30 minutes in an RV. Parking for RVs is either in the nearby mall (free) and risk towing, or in an uncovered, metered lot which costs $1 per hour, for up to 12 hours. Metro claims there are two "RV" stalls, but there are no spots marked for RVs. Six bus-sized stalls, unmetered, are marked "HOV" for 12+ passenger vehicles. In two of the stalls marked for car width it's possible to park a little outside the lines without obstructing another parking stall. We camped at Pohick Bay Regional Park in a Motorhome.

This campground is located in the woods, however, the roads are paved. Sites are gravel, and un-level, ours was back-in and we had 30 amp hook-up and water no sewer. We could't get satellite because of the trees though we could easily pickup local channels on antenna The bath houses had laundry areas, and they were spotless. If they have wifi it would better if you called it nofi. There are many activities, if you go in season, Frisbee golf, miniature golf, and real golf on a very nice course. They also have a swimming pool and water park. We camped at Pohick Bay Regional Park in a Motorhome.
