The girl who checked us in rattled off a very fast, rehearsed and monotone speech with all of the information, rules and directions. We didn't catch any of what she said. We stayed here for a week. All of the sites in the loop that we were in circle around and back up to a noisy playground. Most of those sites at least have some foliage separating them from the playground, but our site was wide open to it. If you have young kids with you, site 22 is the place to be, but if you want quiet then you don't want this site. The road is heavily wooded and the site markers are wood poles placed at the corner of the site driveway and the road. This combination makes it very difficult to back in, even more so when there is someone else camping at the spot across the road which parallels the road and is very narrow. We had to go ahead, turn around in a different site, and then drive the wrong direction on the one way road in order to get into our site. The sites are all dirt with woods in between sites. They pick up the garbage at your site every day if you leave it by the road, although I did not see any information about recycling. It's convenient that they have laundry facilities, but we did have to run the dryer through two cycles each time we did laundry (we used both Comfort Stations and it was the same each time). The park/campground is located on a peninsula and I found that location to be somewhat far from anything else we wanted to do. We did enjoy seeing the bald Eagles in their nest at the cove. We camped at Pohick Bay Regional Park in a Travel Trailer.

A gem amid chaos. Nice park 22 miles from DC. Stayed in site 67 - only area of Park really suitable for MH. Heavy shade so no satellite, a few over the air digital channels. Level, gravel sites with full hookups. We camped at Pohick Bay Regional Park in a Motorhome.

Easy access to Metro about 30" away for touring activities in DC. For a state park campground, it was a beautiful, peaceful setting. No WiFi, but phone reception was OK. We camped at Pohick Bay Regional Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Nice, cost effective place to use as a base for visiting DC. A metro stop is fairly close that will take you into the heart of DC. Our site was a pull through, dirt, moderately unlevel. Lots of trees so that you don't feel close to your neighbor. Electric only. Water is a bit of a problem and only available at the check in office where maneuvering is tight for rigs over 32. Careful with GPS. My Garmin would have had me go 2 miles past the entrance. Google Maps was dead on. Fortunately it is well marked...so follow the signs. The entrance/store/check in is not well designed. Very tight for rigs over 32, especially if towing. Water is available only at the check in, making a traffic mess. We camped at Pohick Bay Regional Park in a Motorhome.

Big waterpark close to the campground. We used the Franconia Metro station to travel to the National Mall. Convenient but very slow because of track work.

Overall Rating:

Pohick Bay Regional Park is located in a wooded area. Roads are paved.

Sites are dirt, but they were putting gravel down. Our site also had timbers placed around it to help contain gravel. It was the only one with the timbers.

There are only 10 sites with full hookups. Other sites have water and electric or shared water at some tent sites.

There are two bath houses with laundry areas, but only one was open as we were here out of season.

The office has wifi. We were able to get a weak signal from it with our Jefatech repeater using an outside antenna. Later in the week, we moved to a second site and could not pickup the wifi, so the coverage is spotty away from the office.

There was a loop with some small rustic cabins. Also, there were a couple new cabins build recently in another area overlooking the river. These appeared to have central AC or heat. We camped at Pohick Bay Regional Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

This park has hiking trails though the woods. The trails can be used to get to the marina at the river.

There is a playground for the children in the center of the camping area.

On the drive to the marina is a summer water park (not sure of fees), Frisbee golf in the woods, and miniature golf (showing its age).

Gunston Hall is near for a historical home tour.

Shopping is 5-6 miles from park.

This park is heavily wooded off the Pohick Bay which is part of the Occoquan River Water Trail, connecting Occoquan Regional Park and the wildlife refuges of the Potomac River. We were there at a bad time, after some heavy rains with lingering showers. It made the air damp, the ground was wet but the site was not muddy. Our biggest problem was backing into the site with our 37' trailer. It took several attempts. Luckily no one was in the two sites across the street from ours so we were able to maneuver easier. The site was fairly level. There are two great reasons to choose this campground. The water sports are great for family fun plus you are within 35-40 minutes of the center of Washington DC. We were using it as an overnight spot, heading for western New York's Finger Lakes and New England to enjoy the fall foliage. We camped at Pohick Bay Regional Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

Pohick Bay is close to a family member so it is always our campground of choice when we are in the area. For the first time we used their full hook up service.

50 amp electricity is not always reliable so we had to carefully monitor our usage. The sewer connection was about a foot out of the ground so it was a challenge to get our sewer hose to have enough slant to really work. We had to change sites in the middle of our stay and the second site was a challenge to try to get level. There were some other similar sites with the front tires off the ground. We choose to keep ours on the ground and never got completely level.

After saying all that, we do enjoy being at Pohick Bay. When the grandkids are with us they really enjoy the playground. They enjoy the woodsy feeling of the campground. Pirates Cove swimming pool is nearby. (There was a drowning the day before we used the pool, though.) The trails are fun to follow and lead you all the way down to the Potomac River, where there is another great playground. We camped at Pohick Bay Regional Park in a Motorhome.

We enjoyed our time at Pohick. Campground includes many amenities; hiking trails, frisbee golf, boat ramp, fishing, picnic areas and much more. We utilized this campground to visit Washington DC, taking the local train which was only 15mins from the park. Only a couple sites offer direct sight of the sky for satellite TV. Since we didn't have a roof mounted satellite, we were able to move our dish through the trees. Our site included picnic table, fire pit and bbq. Our site was level and as many sites, surrounded by trees. Our Verizon phones were able to get a 4g signal from our site. No pull through sites, and some sites are not big rig friendly maneuvering in and out of. Campground within few miles of gas stations, restaurants, mall, movie theater, freeway access and grocery stores. This state park provides a few full service sites. We camped at Pohick Bay Regional Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Rate is for electric-only site. Park location: -- Great for exploring Washington DC (22 miles) and the surrounding area yet very quiet. -- Nice trails from campsites to the Potomac River and pool areas (closed after Labor Day) of the Regional Park. Sites: -- fairly level. Large sites with privacy from your neighbors. -- Most are electric only but there is an easy to get to dump station/water fill. -- Hard to get satellite reception as it is very woodsy. Amenities: -- Mostly paved roads - easily passable for our large Class A. -- Restrooms clean and good water pressure for showers. We would stay again. We camped at Pohick Bay Regional Park in a Motorhome.

This is a nice regional park with spacious, well shaded sites and provides a great location from which to tour Mt. Vernon and other Washington D.C. attractions. Our site was somewhat unlevel and we had difficulty hooking up to water due to a broken faucet part on the park's hook-ups. The camp is very quiet at night and frequently patrolled by park staff. Some maintenance and cleaning seemed to be overlooked (trash left behind in some sites, soap dispenser empty over several days). One other nice benefit was the bike trail that connected the campground to Gunston Hall and Mason Neck Wildlife Refuge. Overall, we would definitely stay here again while touring in the area. Our rate reflects $2 per night surcharge because we are not residents of Northern Virginia. We camped at Pohick Bay Regional Park in a Travel Trailer.

A nice regional park close to DC and an easy drive to the metro into the Capital. Pohick Bay has plenty to do other that visiting DC. There are walking trails, kayaking and a state park on a migratory bird route. Campsites are wooded and quiet. We had plenty of room for a 37 footer. We will visit again on our way by. We camped at Pohick Bay Regional Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Nice park, secluded but still close to the D.C. attractions. We had a full hookup site (there are about a dozen). Easy to back in to site and level; showers are typical for state/local parks: not the best. Great playground for kids. Water park close by. Close to D.C. and Metro for local attractions. We camped at Pohick Bay Regional Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Nice State Park. Showers & bathrooms cleaned 2x/day and generally clean except when rainy and people track in mud. No problems with water pressure, electric, or sewer. Quiet park, mostly families during our 7 day stay. Staff helpful. Firewood expensive and not totally dry. Some sites close together, but many have some spacing between sites. None are what I would consider private with screening. Stayed at site #50 which was convenient to bath/showers and kids playground. Only reasons not rated a 10 were dirty bath/shower houses when raining no Wi-Fi. We camped at Pohick Bay Regional Park in a Tent Trailer.

Very "remote like," even though it's located in a metropolitan area (Northern Virginia). Excellent 4-mile multi-use trail nearby that ends at another state park. Showers were very clean with good privacy. Very nice for families; well kept playground and hiking trails. Sites were a little close together but there were a few that offered good privacy. We selected an electric-only site, which worked out well because the bathrooms / showers were relatively close. We camped at Pohick Bay Regional Park in a Motorhome.

We were first time campers in a Cruise America rental motorhome. We stayed here as it was close to the RV return point. The site was well wooded and the staff were very helpful. We had no sewer but there was a dump station easily available. The comfort station was clean and fresh. The "Water Park" was essentially a large pool with some small slides for the children, although our teenage boys enjoyed it. We would probably stay again. We camped at Pohick Bay Regional Park in a Motorhome.
