This is a typical Virginia State Park. The park is clean and well maintained. It is not, however, geared toward larger RV's. Most sites could handle up to a 30 foot rig. There are 2 small lakes with swimming and small boats. My only complaint was the dump station backed up when I dumped my holding tanks. I could only open my black water valve half way in order to prevent the sewage from backing out of the drain. - MarkandMarty

First time at Twin Lakes State Park. Check in was nice, go pick your site and let them know the number. It's slightly annoying, though, how the check in procedures vary from state park, to state park. This one wanted both vehicles license plate numbers, and one of the vehicles was not there yet. Just was at First Landing SP, and they could care less. Anyhoo.. This campground is very much suited to trailers, as the sites are very well maintained gravel. Very tight, though, so watch out if you are on the larger scale. We did have a tent, and choose E/W, so it was a bit difficult with the tent stakes and the gravel, but there is a separate tent area if you want. Sites were a decent size, but seemed close together with no foliage between. Bath house was probably the cleanest I have ever seen, maybe better than Disney. The beach sand area was raked and and cleaned nightly. There is a seasonal concessions, again clean and friendly. Paddle boats and canoes for rent. All in all, a very enjoyable three days. If we are in the area again, we'll be back! - laurafergie

Agree with previous posts, This is a very tight campground with only a few big rig sites, I would say only 4 can fit 35 and larger. Site 26 is the biggest and has a view of the lake. The dump station is in a strange place, you have to circle around to get to it, but I was able to swing wide enough to make the turn. Some of the sites are only big enough for a tent and 1 vehicle. All in all this is a very nice campground, nice and quiet. - kenn209

This campground is located at Fort Pickett, and is owned by the county so anyone can use the facility. Be prepared to show the guard your ID to access the fort. During our one night mid-week stay, most sites were taken, but we did see at least three available sites. Sites are located on crushed stone that the grass has largely grown up through. Our pull-through site was not level, but good enough for one night. It was a challenge for us to find the office for arranging for a site, and you should plan to contact the office by phone before it closes at 16:30. We had to call the office three times to get directions to the office and staff went outside to wave at us or we might still be wandering around the fort. The rate shown is for full (E,W,S) hookups. We could only get two TV channels on our OTA antenna, but Verizon air card was good as was Tracfone. We stayed here en route to Petersburg. There are few campgrounds in Petersburg so this worked for us, and the price was certainly right. We'd stay again if in the area. - Jay Rutherford

Even though this park is run by the county, it is located on Ft. Pickett and used mostly by long term military personnel stationed there. There are very few sites available for temporary campers. They are various sizes and not level. There are showers and restrooms available in one of the old barracks, with a port-a-potty located in the campground. There is also an old playground that hasn't been maintained. We stayed here for 2 weeks so we could visit our daughter who works on Ft. Pickett and lives nearby. There were no other campgrounds within 50 miles that could accommodate our 35' fifth wheel. - Frank&Renae

This is a former military campground located on Fort Pickett. It is now run by the county and is open to the public. Very friendly with a 30-day+ rate of $8 per day. Call 434 298-0366 for info and reservations. - FiatSpider79

This facility is easily accessed via Highway 58 a major 4 lane road that runs east/west through Virginia. There are one or two gas stations within 10 miles of the entrance. This is a gem of a park. Campground hosts are very helpful. The roads in the park are all paved, no overhanging trees, nor trees on the side of the road to snag your rig. There are a few sharp corners but I had no problem negotiating them with my 36 MH with toad in tow. Our site #75 was a back in, easy to get into, hard packed dirt with gravel on top and was fairly level. Electric (50 amp) and water were conveniently located about mid coach. There was a fire pit and picnic table. We had a fantastic view every night of the sun setting on the reservoir which was just across from our site. The rest rooms were cleaned daily. The showers were modern, plenty of hot water, and cleaned daily. The park itself is well maintained with no overgrown weeds, brush, etc. In the summer given the number of trees around us I'm sure it would be well shaded. The main draw here is either boating or fishing on the reservoir. We would come here again with no hesitation. - William T
Aug 2017 - $13.00
Great park on the John Kerr Reservoir, sites are wooded, spacious, and well separated, with electric & water hookups, there is a nice double sided dump station. Bathrooms and showers worked well and were cleaned daily. Our site, as many others we noticed were very level, ours required only a single lynx block, (1 in.). There are fishing, boating and swimming opportunities, but we were there to just relax. Our rate was with the Senior Pass, we will definitely come back. - bukhrn
Aug 2016 - $25.00
We only stayed over night, but I wish we could have stayed longer. We had a back in site under many trees. All of the sites were tree covered. There were nice fire pits, fish cleaning tables, lantern hooks and picnic tables. There was a bit of space between sites, so we weren't looking directly into the camper next to us.
The bathrooms were clean and well kept.
I did not go down to the water it, but I believe there is a boat ramp. - car2ner
