Part of what you're paying for here is location, which is great. We stayed here in a 40 foot motorhome and interior roads easy to navigate. Easy in/out, friendly staff, well maintained property, clean bathhouse. Great location for exploring Shenandoah National Park and Luray Caverns, and also nice to sit at the campsite and look out at the mountains on both sides of the valley. No privacy between sites, you're pretty exposed from all angles and our site could use some leveling work. But this didn't detract from our overall stay. Walmart, grocery and other stores right up the road. T-Mobile didn't work here but our Verizon cell and mifi worked great. This is a true campground with transient traffic. We heard some road noise when we were there during the day, but very quiet at night. They also have some very nice looking cabins (from the outside), a nice tent area, and a trail along the river. We would stay here again. Rate reflects weekly rate. We camped at Outlanders River Camp in a Motorhome.

Nice campground with nice walking areas. No internet. Firewood had to be bought there but did not burn well.

Site flooded from the rain. Staff came immediately to dig trenches to help water drain.

Nice primitive sites as well as RV sites. We camped at Outlanders River Camp in a Motorhome.

This was a weekly rate. Good location for visiting Luray Caverns and Smokey Mountain National Park. This was a very rustic place, sites were gravel and grass. Very spacious and roads were easy to maneuver in our 45' motorhome. When we plugged in the 50 amp was not working. They were able to fix it within 15 minutes and we were very impressed. Owner and staff were very nice. They are doing a lot to spruce it up. We camped at Outlanders River Camp in a Motorhome.

We really enjoyed our stay here. It's very close to Luray Caverns, and 30 minutes from the entrance gate to Shenandoah National Park. Just a few miles away is a Walmart, supermarket, and a few restaurants and stores in Luray. The RV sites are decently spaced, with picnic table and fire pit. There are some nice tent platforms in the woods with a lot of privacy, and some rows of tent sites in the open in the main campground area. Several grassy "trails" lead around the property, great for dog walks, and there's quite a bit of river access which our dog loved for swims. We were there pre-season so the park was mostly empty and the rates were cheaper ($44/night including tax). The only downside for us was connectivity: Verizon had a pretty good signal but data was often slower than we'd like, while AT&T had only one bar of signal and varied between slow and unusable. Using our cell booster made little difference with data speeds. We'd definitely return. We camped at Outlanders River Camp in a Motorhome.

A very nice, very well maintained park. Open with very little shade, so it may get warm in the summer. There is a nice river near by for wadding or floating. Very close to Luray Caverns. We camped at Outlanders River Camp in a Travel Trailer.

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

A little pricey but a great campground. Since we like low key and a little rustic/rural, this was a fantastic place to be. We were here for 5 weeks in order to stay close to Washington DC to visit our daughter a lot. There are over 100 acres to explore and the Shenandoah River borders two sides of the property. Great for fly fishing. The highway is near but we never heard any road noise. Since we were here in late fall, we were thrilled to see beautiful trees changing colors. The owner and people who work here are so very friendly and accommodating. The campground is clean and the sites are far enough apart that there is plenty of room to be outside around the fire. The roads are well maintained and easily accommodate all RV's. There is a lot of tent camping down by the river. The sunrises and sunsets with the mountains as backdrops, are beautiful. There are no pools and only a small playground... but that is great because it's a great place for kids to be outside exploring! They have two shelters for gatherings and they are building two beautiful cabins to rent out beginning in spring of 2018. During November, the campground cleared out during the week and we were the only campers. But the campground became about 1/3 full on weekends even in very cold weather. Peaceful and relaxing!! I wish more campgrounds were like this one! We camped at Outlanders River Camp in a Fifth Wheel.

So close to the beautiful Shenandoah National Park! Lots of little towns to explore nearby...north and south of Luray. The Virginia Civil War Museum in New Market is excellent and a must-see. Murray's Fly Fishing shop in Edinburg is a must for fly fishers. A wonderful place for lunch in Woodstock is the Garden Cafe.

Overall Rating:

The campground setting is very beautiful, with views all around, and the hookups were very good. The sites are around a large field, with no trees for shade or privacy. As another reviewer has stated, the nightly rate is a bit high with few amenities and they accept no discount programs. There is no WiFi, and when the campground is full with many tent sites occupied, the restroom would be less than adequate. For self contained RVs this is probably not an issue. Check in was fine, but the list of rules is a bit harsh, especially the threat of a $75 fine for dog waste that you have to sign. We know there are dog owners who do not clean up from their pets, but not exactly a warm welcome to those of us who do. We camped at Outlanders River Camp in a Motorhome.

If you need a campground that is big rig accessible, we found this to be very easy to access both from how to get there and maneuvering around in the campground itself. We have a 45' and a tow. Sites looked level and are gravel with a fairly wide grassy area between sites. There is no Wifi nor cable. This campground offers a variety of sites including tent camping on slightly raised platforms. There is a river nearby that offers fishing, plus the campground has tubes for rent if you want to take a ride down the river. We camped at Outlanders River Camp in a Motorhome.

We stayed 5 nights in site #24, a back-in site with full hook ups. This is a beautiful spot of land along the river and the grounds are kept up very nicely. There was no wi-fi (ugh) but we did have full LTE cell service (AT&T). We did not try the satellite, but with such clear views of the sky it would have worked no problem. There are a couple of nice little ponds to fish in as well as the river. We camped at Outlanders River Camp in a Travel Trailer.

Very well-kept park. Good space between sites. Level gravel sites with grass, picnic table and fire ring. Must buy wood from them. River access is down wooded slopes accessed by nice trails or golf cart which can be rented. You can check out the aerial photos of the campground on the website. Beautiful views all around. It is a fairly new campground and owners are doing a great job, however, I think the price is too high for no wifi or laundry. We got a slight break for staying 6 nights. First the cons: No Cable, No WIFI of Internet. Now the pros: Beautiful well manicured campground, the hiking and golf cart trails are unique and a lot of fun. The staff couldn't be nicer or more helpful. The sights have good electric and strong water pressure. This is a "young" RV park that will soon be the finest campground in Luray. Would easily have had a 10 if they had WIFI, cable. We camped at Outlanders River Camp in a Motorhome.

What a great place. Above the South Fork of the Shenandoah River, near historic Luray with beautiful Caverns. Clean, friendly staff, great views of valley and mountains. Full hookup sites and primitive sites. Trails along river and around fields. Rained 1st two days hard so river was not navigable w my kayak skills. Kayak the river, fish, visit quaint Luray up the valley; they have a great coffee house and antique stores. Walmart nearby. Go over the mountains west to New Market, same as Luray, quaint and historic.

Quiet setting in an open field surrounded by "mountains" ("hills" for westerners). Beautiful views. Gravel access roads - main road is only lane and half; others are single lanes but "one way" (not really clear so traffic tends to go both ways). Sites are gravel with grass patio areas. No effective shade (young trees). Reasonable width on site but parking area for rig very narrow (about 8' so big rigs will be partially off the gravel even when centered). Pull thru sites have very noticeable slopes probably ok for 5ths and trailers (we observed the front of 5th wheel well below the top of the pickup when level at one of the sites), but most likely problematic for longer motorhomes. Backins are more level but we still needed our auxiliary step to get in to the coach due to how high the front end went to get level. Site was barely long enough to fit toad sideways.

Power mostly ok (one dropout in two weeks on a hot day, but with only a handful of sites occupied). Water 40 to 45psi, sewer ok. No problems with satellite access No cable, no over the air tv, no wifi. Verizon LTE had moderate signal and speed. Tmobile had no signal. Some of the worst trash management we've seen - a single dumpster that was emptied once in 2 weeks. They would periodically compact the trash which only broke open the trash bags adding to the very unpleasant smell at the sites near the dumpster (prevailing wind was from dumpster to sites). No recycle. No good road bike riding at campground or immediate vicinity. Stink bugs were a problem at this time of year (still finding them in the coach 3 weeks later).

Big rigs coming in from New Market should use exit 269, not exit 264 to avoid New Market center. The pass between New Market and Luray is fine as long as you are comfortable with mountain driving.

Would consider again but only if several sites away from dumpster. We camped at Outlanders River Camp in a Motorhome.

We loved this park. The property runs along the Shendendoah River with very nice walking and golf cart trails. The RV sites are open, but that did allow us satellite connections. There is no cable. The staff our very friendly and helpful. Electric and sewer connections were good. The tent areas were really nice and they also have a primative area which was totally beautiful.
