Mixed feelings on this park. Nice, quiet surroundings. Staff was very friendly and polite. Nice camp store; pool and playground at the entrance are well kept but aging. Once inside the park, it is less appealing. We arrived on a rainy day, so lack of gravel at our site (#18) meant mud on tires, shoes, and paws. Interior road has rough spots and virtually all sites need gravel and yard work. Most disappointing was the appearance of several permanent RVs: dirty/aged exteriors, duct tape repairs, weeds, unkempt outside. Pull through sites are tight but manageable. Utilities (electric, water, sewer, cable) worked fine, though we needed our sewer extension. We did not use the wifi that was available for an additional charge; our AT&T hotspot worked fine. Nature trail is nice. Best sites are 47-59; they have more room and seem better kept. Despite the negatives, this is probably the best RV park option in the area. We camped at Shenandoah Hills Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Food Lion is close by. Greene Hills Golf Club is a short drive away (excellent condition, greens fees $59 with cart). Bald Top Brewery is very nice/scenic; Beerhound Brewery in Culpeper was exceptional. Highly regarded Bavarian Chef restaurant is a few miles away.

We have been camping at this campground since 2009, one or two times once or twice every other year. We have noticed lately that the campground has lost its lustre. It's still very close to Shenandoah National Park which makes it very appealing. It is near Charlottesville for shopping. We camped there in a fifth wheel and had a full hookup, pull through site with cable. Due to the park's location, channel choices were limited. The restrooms were clean but dated. The roads in the park, once you get past the pull through sites are in need of repair. The pavement is broken or missing and there are naturally-occurring speed bumps. There are many long-term campers. The office staff is very friendly and helpful. The camp store is well-stocked. We didn't use the pool or laundry. We would return if we are in the area again - there aren't many other choices. We camped at Shenandoah Hills Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

I rarely leave reviews but this campground has gotten such bad press that I decided I needed to review. We were going to stay at the Nat'l Park but realized that we could t run the generator at all so plans quickly changed. I chose this park because of the proximity. So many reviews said that the staff was rude but I completely disagree. The staff was very hospitable upon arrival and the office/camp store was clean and fully stocked. There is a security gate which is another plus. The roads were pitted but have you ever been to any Thousand Trails? I rest my case. We had a pull thru with 30 amp, water and sewer. 50 amp is available. The site was level. The bath house was very clean and even though the showers were pre-set temp and timed, the temp was perfect and the time was long. FYI...The cable was standard definition only (only matters to HD snobs like us!). Overall it was a great base camp for us and we will keep it in mind for the future. We camped at Shenandoah Hills Campground in a Motorhome.

This was our first of many future visits to this campground. We stayed in spot 30 of this hidden gem during the month of hot/steamy mid-July weather. The site is cozy with tree covered shade. We stayed at the end of "Pull-Through" road which allows for minimal traffic flow for the pull through spots and increased privacy. (All sites on this road are backed up to the woods without any additional campers.) Upon connecting the utilities, a large weather front (wind/rain) came through and within 10 mins my site's power dropped off, I gave it 15mins and called the front office to see if it was the whole campground or just me. They said it was just my site and sent out someone immediately. They had us up and running in 10 minutes! (Many thanks, guys! And I later discovered it was one of the owners!) When the weather cleared through, they reopened the pool. What a nice treat. We met up with some fellow campers looking for some humidity relief and completely enjoyed the pool. (I'm a little bummed that the pool closes at 7pm, but suspect it may be for liability issues). Still nice to enjoy while it was open. I had the opportunity to meet the owners. They are "down to earth" people that are looking to provide the best for their occupants. Bottom line, if you are looking to be a rebellious bunch that want to rock & party into the wee hours of the night, this is not the place for you. If you are looking for an enjoyable, relaxing environment to bring your smaller grandchildren to, or better yet, just bring your better half for a stress free time, this Is the place! Oh and I have to mention... CLEANEST bathroom I've seen in a long time! Dated, but CLEAN! Air conditioning, and to put things into a detailed perspective, BLUE water in the commodes if that tells you anything. We will go out of our way to come back to this place!!! We camped at Shenandoah Hills Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Lots of antiquing shops around the area. (Short Drive to the south) Vinny's Pizza has excellent food and portions. Blue Ridge Restaurant is also a gem of a place for good food. (Service is sometime hit/miss), but Chef Shawn comes out periodically to make sure that everyone is enjoying his food and is very open to comments/suggestions.

I stayed at the campground for the month of July. Loved it! Nice quiet wooded setting, campfire rings and picnic table at each site. Only about 35 minutes from Shenandoah NP too. There was a fantastic pancake breakfast one weekend (biscuits and gravy, pancakes, eggs if you don't like the other items, juice, coffee, thick sliced bacon, and two types of sausage). Can't beat it for $5. There was an ice cream social also and they had hay/wagon rides on the holiday weekend. Super nice people here. The bathrooms are very clean too. Enjoyed our stay and we will be back! We camped at Shenandoah Hills Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

They sell many different cuts of local bison meat at the campground store. Yoder's market is just down the street and you are only about 35 to 40 minutes from Shenandoah NP. Walmart is only 10 miles away and the local Food Lion is a mile from here.

This is the second time we stayed at this campground - first time was three years ago (I did not review at that time) and it is much improved since then. Cleaner, well maintained and friendlier. No problems maneuvering in or out of campground or camp site. There was some rain while we were there and drainage throughout was good - I did not see standing water in our site or around the campground. Restrooms are clean, well lite and well maintained. The pool was nice and clear. This campground also has nice little things for you to do over the weekend as well - ice cream social and a small craft for dad to make (Father's Day Weekend). The camp store had a good selection if you needed something as well. We would camp here again. We camped at Shenandoah Hills Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Friendly check-in, easy to find and setup on site, and while dirt/gravel generally level. Staff came by a few hours later to confirm we were "happy campers" and since power, water, cable, and sewer connections were as expected we enjoyed our weekend stay. We came in March. We arrived late after office closed, and left the next morning before office opened. (The registration material was left for us.) Very few others in campground, but still had a security gate. Shower okay. Nice area to walk dogs. Lot spacing was spacious and mostly shady. Site surface was gravel. We have camped at this campground several times. That is to say their is no other ones around. The staff (owner-female) has been rude at times and comes across as just doing business and comes across as she doesn't care if your their or not. The campground road is in need of repair gravel and paved sections have holes and many puddles and mud collect, causing the rig to sway side to side. The exit loop has several large holes and wash outs on the turns. The sites at in need of some care. Mostly leaves and sticks on the ground. Not tidy for the price. The pool is there, but was not open on our visit. Water/electric/sewer all good. WiFi needs improvement This used to be a KOA. But not any more. We camped at Shenandoah Hills Campground in a Motorhome.

The firs remarks out of the mouth of the "check in" person was "someone needs to get that dog on a leash!" Overall the park wasn't crowded and it was quiet, which was what I was looking for. You can still hear some road noise from US29, but the rest of the surroundings minimized that. Our site needed mowing when we were there. The facilities seemed in need of upkeep. When we were packed up and ready to pull out, I went to the bath house to wash my hands. They were being cleaned, so I asked if I could wash my hands. I was snapped at with "just give me 10 minutes". Given the negatives, it was still a relaxing park and a positive experience. I would probably stay here again. We camped at Shenandoah Hills Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Staff is the worst I've ever seen in 40 years of camping. They take all the fun out of a relaxing weekend. Very rude. The place is falling apart. Huge ruts to drive through and the sites are horrible and run down. Too many other decent campgrounds in better locations. Find one of those! They charge for everything. Campground is run down. It used to be a KOA, not anymore, it is a dump. The place was deserted on a gorgeous spring weekend. Small sites, the people come around everyday and grill you, and I mean grill you about where you got every stick of wood. They want you to buy it from them.

Check out is at noon, and I started to pack up at 1115 - only takes me 20 minutes to get done. They made a point of telling me I better speed it up because it would be $2 an hour if I was late. So then, not 1, but 2 staff members in two separate golf carts watched me (they tried to hide) to make sure I left on time. The second I pulled out, they disappeared. We came back for the fun in October. They have Halloween for 3 weekends and you can go to a nearby Apple Harvest Festival that is loads of fun. They deliver firewood when it's paid for and are great with directions to get places. Used to be a KOA, but it seems to be more outgoing and friendly now that they are private again. Whatever their reasons were, we like it! Site was awesome, Bathhouse was really clean, and Wi-Fi worked great! Absolutely plan to come back! We were told by the person taking our reservation request via telephone how much she hates this park and KOA! During our stay her comments about KOA were verbally reinforced by the owner. This place was more like a residential park then a campground. Very few campers on Customer Appreciation Weekend which is when we camped. It needs updating and owners who care! The grounds are over grown. The road is in dire need of resurfacing, etc, etc!. All in all not a good experience. Will not stay here again! We camped at Shenandoah Hills Campground in a Fifth Wheel.
