Overall Rating:

We stay here almost every year because of the convenience and amenities. We had a pullthrough with 30 amp, sewer, water, wifi and cable. The wifi was ok, not great. Nice shade trees. Their heated pool was not open which disappointed us. I like this park, but my only complaint was the water had so much chlorine in it that it was bad tasting. The first site they put us in was very unlevel that we asked to move. We found a site and they allowed us to move there, much more level. Grass and gravel pullthrough. We camped at Fort Chiswell RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

Nightly rate reflects one week plus 3 nights plus tax with Good Sam discount. This park is laid out very nicely. Most sites are pull through with full hook-up service and cable TV. Laundry facility was clean; only $1.50 each for wash and dry. Ladies restroom was clean and spacious. Showers had good hot water and water pressure....even had piped in music! Clientele is mostly 1 or 2 night stays. Owners are professional. The office has an assortment of RV supplies along with some wine from local wineries, a book exchange, and pamphlets for local attractions. The park is very quiet even though it's not a mile from the interstate. We camped at Fort Chiswell RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Level sites, good wifi, 50 amp service, cable TV and ATT service. The long, pull thru sites are spacious and very convenient to I-81, quiet and well lit at night. We camped at Fort Chiswell RV Park in a Motorhome.

Just a two night stay for us, but a good location. Site was level (gravel), with grass between the sites, and a picnic table. Some shade. Utilities all good. The site was long enough for our motorhome and tow car. Not far from the Interstate, but quiet (not much road noise). We camped at Fort Chiswell RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The Blue Ridge Parkway is less than an hour away - we especially enjoyed the Blue Ridge Music Center and the Mabry Grist Mill. Flying J near the campground ("RV pump lane" can be a challenge when exiting - we went around the building). Plenty of restaurants and shopping in nearby Wytheville.

This was an overnight stop while traveling north. Only a half mile from the intersection of 81 and 77. The park is well laid out and all sites appear pull though. Our site was close to the front of the park but no traffic noise. The site was grass/dirt but had a very good concrete pad for your coach providing a solid level base. We camped at Fort Chiswell RV Park in a Motorhome.

What a find. Fort Chiswell RV Park in Max Meadows Virginia. Exit 80 about 1 mile off Interstate 81. Just a 1 night stop over but has all large pull thru sites with 30/50 amp, 52 channel cable, heated pool, very clean and quiet park. All this for $35.00 dollars a night less 10 percent for Goodsam member. Will definitely remember this place if back in the area. Also all sites are full hook up. We camped at Fort Chiswell RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We stopped for an overnight. The park is easy to get to off of the interstate. It is very quiet, thanks to a ridge between the interstate and the park. The staff was professional. Excellent park for my purposes. We camped at Fort Chiswell RV Park in a Motorhome.

We stopped for an overnight stay and never even unhooked our truck. The people in the office were extremely friendly. There were plenty of grassy areas to walk our dogs. There is a pool that was clean an inviting but sadly we didn't have time to use it We camped at Fort Chiswell RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

We used Ft. Chiswell for a 1 night stay. Park is only 1/2 mile off of I-81, but we heard no road noise at all. We had a pull thru site with a concrete pad to park on. Cable tv was good & the wifi worked well. Staff was friendly & helpful. We would stay here again. We camped at Fort Chiswell RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Good access to freeways. Long level pull thru sites easy to maneuver. Quiet for overnight stop. Heated small pool. Good hookups. Good wifi and cable for free. Pond. Not fancy but good for our purposes. Like the easy in and out. No problems. We camped at Fort Chiswell RV Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

We stayed here in March and again in June. It is a convenient pull off from I-81 as you are heading down the road. It is close to the highway but protected from road noise. The campsites are level and the utilities are convenient and work well. The campground is surrounded by grazing fields, with cattle on one side and sheep on the other. Yet, it doesn't smell like animals. There is a creek running through it and a small pond. The swimming pool looked inviting, and there were plenty of kids playing in it in June. We saw many goldfinches flying around. We camped at Fort Chiswell RV Park in a Motorhome.

This park had all the services we needed at a great price. Staff was attentive and friendly. Our pull thru was just long enough and had a good amount of grass for our dog. The park is very well maintained. Great WiFi service plus cable and satellite coverage. The town of Wytheville is about 8 miles away and has everything you may need to pick up. We camped at Fort Chiswell RV Park in a Motorhome.

Easy on and off I-81. Office staff was very pleasant and efficient. Free WiFi was very slow, but the park was almost full. Didn't use cable TV. Verizon had 3 bars, but it was also slow. Our site didn't have any trees, so satellite TV worked fine. Camped in at 45 foot motor home. Our site concrete pad was barely wide enough. Our site was a pull-through, but we chose to back out. Pull-through was too step. We camped at Fort Chiswell RV Park in a Motorhome.

Many bluegrass music opportunities in nearby Galax and Fries. The Shot Tower is worth a visit south on I-81. New River Trail is great for biking.

Overall Rating:

I always get a little nervous when I see a campground that is adjacent to an Interstate highway, but when I saw the 8+ rating on Fort Chiswell, I wanted to give it a try, even if it was 60 miles further than I had planned to drive that day. And I am happy to say that this CG is a gem. I don't know how they do it when it is situated less than a half-mile from busy I-81, but it was peacefully quiet all night. We even slept with the windows OPEN, and I could barely hear anything from the highway. The sites were nice, it was quiet, the utilities were good, it was quiet, we watched the cows, it was quiet, we didn't use the rest rooms, oh, and it was quiet. No question, we would be happy to stay here again, and again. We camped at Fort Chiswell RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

A great, fairly basic RV park located convenient to I-81 and a Flying J but still very quiet and peaceful. All pull-through sites, FHU, gravel or concrete pad with a picnic table, either sun or shade. Bathrooms, laundry, and a game room are all modern and clean. Easy and friendly check-in. Lots of grassy areas for walking a large dog. Easy in and out so good for an overnight but nice enough for a longer stay. I wish there were more campgrounds like this along our interstate highways.
