Ft Chiswell is a frequent stop for us as we travel up and down I-81 and I-77. It's very convenient to both, and is located just a short distance over a ridge that blocks most highway noises. The park is well maintained with well placed utilities, and there are pull-thru sites that will accommodate nearly any sized RV. The free WiFi is strong with moderate speeds, although it can bog down some when the park is near full. Our Verizon and T-Mobile signals were strong with good data speeds. The free cable service is good as well, and most sites are satellite friendly. We will be returning here. We camped at Fort Chiswell RV Park in a Motorhome.

There's a Denny's restaurant nearby at a Flying J truck stop, and other restaurants and stores are not far away in nearby Wytheville.

The heated pool was 80 degrees and delightful! Staff in the office was very friendly. This is the type of park we love - all amenities, cable, good wifi from our site, full hookups and things to do. We have stayed here twice before and will definitely come back. We camped at Fort Chiswell RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed 2 nights. Staff was very friendly from the time we booked our reservation until we departed. We have a 40 foot DP with 4 slides pulling a toad. Our site was off level front to back but we managed. Plenty of room for walking about, plenty of trees, pastures to walk the dog. WIFI was good for basic, used our own Satellite and OTA antenna. Park was clean and well kept. We would stay here again. We camped at Fort Chiswell RV Park in a Motorhome.

We drove to Mt. Airy, North Carolina. Home of Andy Griffith and the setting for Mayberry in the TV show. We had a great time as many open fruit stands along the route.

On a hill with easy access. Clean, neat spaces and really quiet even though it is close to the highway. We were traveling and stayed just one night. Cave attraction and National Park nearby. My only complaint was the "fruit flies" or gnats. Fruit and a neglected vegetable garden left with unpicked fruit which gave the gnats a place to thrive. We camped at Fort Chiswell RV Park in a Motorhome.

Easy in and out from the interstate. Very convenient. Just an overnight for us. Long gravel pull thrus, not quite level. Some sites had cement pads. Utilities were convenient, wifi was weak, no off leash dog park. They have a large area with pull thrus for transients and it filled up the night we were there. There was just one dumpster for the whole park and it was already full when arrived. By morning, everyone was putting trash next to and around the dumpster. Unsightly and unsanitary. We camped at Fort Chiswell RV Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

We stay here whenever we are on the way home and will be passing through the area. It an easy 4 hour drive for us the next day to get home.

The park is conveniently along I-81 and I-77. Mostly grassy pull through sites with full hookups located near the center of your rig.

Park is very clean, as is the pool and other facilities. They even sell wine in the office.

Fuel and gas, a Denny's and a couple other restaurants as you exit the highway. The park is less than a mile further and NO traffic noise.

Great place to stop for the night or spend a couple days in the New River area. We camped at Fort Chiswell RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Great location for an overnight before we headed south on I-77, and very easy off & on Interstate 81, but still a quiet spot. This campground seems to have been around for a long time, and has a peaceful, pastoral feeling because of the fields with cows and sheep that surround it. We were assigned a shady site, and noticed several big rigs pull in for overnights. Would definitely stay here again. We camped at Fort Chiswell RV Park in a Motorhome.

We had never been to this area before. It was easy to get to: minus the road construction on the bridge over the freeway. It was surprising quiet for being so close to the highway. We went to stay so we could ride motorcycles, and had a good time doing that. The area is not good for tourist type activities when we were not riding, those were pretty far away. Most campers just stayed overnight so we always had new neighbors. Plenty of room for walking our dogs. There was a pool but we didn't swim, and a pond that had some amazing large fish next to a quiet creek. We camped at Fort Chiswell RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

We ate at Graze restaurant in Wytheville which is located in the Bolling Wilson Hotel. It was excellent and well worth the drive. We also dined at the Mansion at Fort Chiswell, which I would pass on. It claims to be farm to table, but has a laminated menu so how can you change with the seasons?

Stayed one night going to N.C. from KY and then again on the return trip home. Park is always quiet and convenient to many fast food places. The staff are always friendly. Sites are level and some are shady...most are pull thru. We camped at Fort Chiswell RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

This campground is great for an overnight stay when driving I-81. It is close enough to the interstate to be convenient, but far enough off to not have any road noise. The campground is well maintained. Bathrooms are very clean. Campsites are relatively level. We would definitely stay here again! We camped at Fort Chiswell RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Park is very convenient to I-81. Sites are level grass and gravel. There are some old run down trailers but for the most part the park is nice and clean. Some sites are shaded and some are in full sun with a clear view of the sky. We enjoyed watching rabbits in an adjoining field and cows in another field. To be so close to the interstate you really feel as though you are out in the country. We camped at Fort Chiswell RV Park in a Motorhome.

We stayed here for 1 night passing through. It's convenient to the interstate, but far enough away to be peaceful. The restrooms, showers, and heated pool were all clean. The grounds were clean. The sites were spacious, level, and had picnic tables. There are no fire rings, so I assume no fires are allowed. The front middle pull through sites had some shade. The guy in the office was friendly. It was reasonably priced, but you have to pay an extra $2 per night for more than 2 people over the age of 16. The rules say to not move the picnic tables off the concrete slabs, so when it rained, we had to sit under the awning with our dinner plates. That was fine, but it would have been nice to move the table under the awning. We'd stay here again if passing through. We camped at Fort Chiswell RV Park in a Travel Trailer.
