Very convenient for one night stay. Easy on/off from highway. Easy to pull in and set up, and enjoyed seeing farm animals grazing on hillsides surrounding RV Park. RV sites were close together but clean and easy hook ups. If we were staying in area longer, would choose nearby RV park, Pioneer Village, which is very beautifully landscaped but not as convenient for overnight stay. We camped at Fort Chiswell RV Park in a Motorhome.

Always stay here on our way north or south. Great little campground. Mostly pull thrus, great laundry, and good ice cream at office/store. Lots of clovers and the grass usually needs cut, but they are always cutting it! We camped at Fort Chiswell RV Park in a Motorhome.

There's a decent Denny's at the Flying J down the road and also a Wendy's in the same lot.

Great park. Quiet. Cows and sheep on surrounding properties. So much room to run your dog. Friendly folks. RV parts, and ice cream novelties at the office. Clean laundry. Gravel sites, all pull-throughs, took two tries to find the best level. We camped at Fort Chiswell RV Park in a Motorhome.

Great overnite stop off. Nice staff. Quick check in. Fairly level site kind of close but OK for the night. Good water pressure. Fair wifi. Cable TV reception good. As mentioned, Flying J just down the road at Interstate. Very little noise. Worth stopping for an overnite. We camped at Fort Chiswell RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Date of Stay: January, 2018 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

Ft Chiswell is a regular stop for us, usually for 2 nights, as we head south or north on I-81 and I-77. The check-in staff is always pleasant and accommodating, and the sites are easy to reach with even the largest rigs. Our pull-through site this visit was on the upper side with a concrete slab that almost made leveling unnecessary. The utilities were well placed and easy to reach for hooking up. We do prefer the lower section though, where the pull-through sites are a little wider, but with no slabs. The water on that side was shut off due to extreme low temps this trip, so we opted for the other section where insulated water taps were available. We didn't use the free WiFi or cable this time, although they have worked satisfactorily in the past. Our AT&T and Verizon cell signals were strong, and our site had a good satellite view. We will be back on our next trip by. We camped at Fort Chiswell RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Wytheville, VA is just a few miles away with many restaurants and stores. For a quick meal, there's a Denny's at the Flying J you pass just before getting to the park. The Flying J also has a Blue Beacon truck wash if you need to clean road salt, etc. off your rig.

Our second stay here. More than fine for an overnight and would work well short a short stay to see the sights. Definitely on the good side of average. OK wifi. Convenient to I 77/81. Clean restrooms and showers. Site surface is dirt and lot has a picnic table. We camped at Fort Chiswell RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

Like many visitors, we just stayed overnight. Since it's a pretty big park and caters to overnight stops, and it was mid-October, we almost didn't make a reservation but it's a good thing we did! The park was full by early evening. The section of pull-throughs we were in had very tight sites, fine for overnight but not much more than that. Another section had sites that looked almost twice as wide. Our site also had a steep incline at the beginning, then a level concrete pad for our motorhome, then uphill again at the the end. There's a nice grassy field for walking dogs. Both Verizon and AT&T worked well. We'd definitely stay again for an overnight stop, or maybe a longer visit in one of the wider sites. We camped at Fort Chiswell RV Park in a Motorhome.

We stayed here one night while travelling. Very easy to access - less than a mile from the interstate. We arrived mid-afternoon and there were 3 other RV's lined up ahead of us waiting to check in, so this must be a popular camp. I recommend advance reservations. Our site was level with sufficient room. Good cable and wifi reception. Very quiet at night. We would stay here again. We camped at Fort Chiswell RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Camped at site #7, a pull through, with a 32' 5th Wheel. Full hookups with 50amp service, sewer, water, cable and Wi-Fi. The PVC sewer connection is cracked and broken and needs replacing. The cable has a lot of snow (audio & video interference) but is watchable and understandable. The owner/manager is very nice and filled my propane bottle as I checked in. The sites (most pull through) have enough distance between them comfortably, but you do know you have neighbors...most are very friendly. No fire pits, but all have picnic tables. Well stocked camp store and there is repair capability on site. Lot of rooms for the kids to play in with spacious playground and pool. We camped at Fort Chiswell RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Flying J truck stop nearby just off I-81 on the way to the campground. If pulling a trailer, disconnect at the campground first before getting fuel...it is a bit tight turning in the truck stop. The campground is about 3/4 of a mile on the left from I-81. Very well laid out and nice campground.

Stayed for just an overnight. Very convenient on and off the highway and had a pull through site long enough for the toad so didn't have to unhook. Very pleasant stay! Will definitely stay here again if in the area. We camped at Fort Chiswell RV Park in a Motorhome.

When we arrived it was a ghost town but by late afternoon it was full so best to make reservations. We had one of the sites with a concrete pad which was level and long enough there was no need to unhook toad. Other sites were gravel. Easy big rig access. Bath house and laundry were clean. The sites are close together. Very quiet park. We stayed one night and would return if in the area. We were in a 40 ft motorhome. We camped at Fort Chiswell RV Park in a Motorhome.

We stay here almost every year because of the convenience and amenities. We had a pullthrough with 30 amp, sewer, water, wifi and cable. The wifi was ok, not great. Nice shade trees. Their heated pool was not open which disappointed us. I like this park, but my only complaint was the water had so much chlorine in it that it was bad tasting. The first site they put us in was very unlevel that we asked to move. We found a site and they allowed us to move there, much more level. Grass and gravel pullthrough. We camped at Fort Chiswell RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Just a two night stay for us, but a good location. Site was level (gravel), with grass between the sites, and a picnic table. Some shade. Utilities all good. The site was long enough for our motorhome and tow car. Not far from the Interstate, but quiet (not much road noise). We camped at Fort Chiswell RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The Blue Ridge Parkway is less than an hour away - we especially enjoyed the Blue Ridge Music Center and the Mabry Grist Mill. Flying J near the campground ("RV pump lane" can be a challenge when exiting - we went around the building). Plenty of restaurants and shopping in nearby Wytheville.
