This is part of a "complex" that includes a big gift shop, indoor flea market, cavern tours, and the CG. Unfortunately the campground seems to be an afterthought. Interior roads are poor and several permanent trailers are badly rundown.
That said, it is very convenient for an overnight just below Roanoke. We would probably stay here again if we happen to be going down I-81. We camped at Dixie Caverns Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Works for an overnight stay. Easy access on and off I-81. You will hear noise from interstate if you're not running your air conditioners. Outside the noise level is bearable. Park layout is good for big rigs, although we did unhook tow car in their large parking lot before parking the 45 foot motorhome on the site. Interior roads and site driveways are gravel and some mud if it has been raining. Sites are close together with some grass between sites. Verizon cell had 3 bars. Free Wi-Fi worked well. We were able to get satellite TV on our site. Some sites you may not be able to get satellite TV because of trees and a hill next to the RV park. We camped at Dixie Caverns Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Suggest big rigs unhook tow car in parking lot near the office, before parking your coach. Grocery and big box stores are 5 miles away, as well as fast food and other restaurants.

Pulled in at 7pm. Office was closed but we saw a sign that had after hours pointed to an old mobilehome. Right next to an old camper with door open and trash flowing out. No one came to door when we rang bell "for service" we found park because of write up on Good SAMs app. Didn't feel very safe, it was loud from interstate noise. Cable did work, but big whoop, we were tired. Next morning went to pay at Cavern shop with my Good SAMs card in hand. The desk guy rudely informed me "we don't take discounts of no kind here'" the second staff member walked around corner with his shirt raised rubbing his belly. Class act! We camped at Dixie Caverns Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

If you have passport America go down 81 south a little and stay at on of the passport locations at half the price

This is an older park and could use some TLC. The cable TV worked well. We got a good signal on our Verizon Mifi. There are a number of long term stays that left for work early in the morning. The center row of pull throughs are short if you want to stay hooked up and narrow. Depending on how you and the rig next to you are parked, you may not be able to fully extend an awning in these middle sites. We were able to because the rig next to us was at the front of their site and our trailer was at the back of our site. The pull throughs on the right side of the entrance road are very long and a little wider. The sites farthest from the entrance/office are close to the interstate so there is highway noise all the time. The area is surrounded by trees so even the sites with no trees get shade in the morning and afternoon. We camped at Dixie Caverns Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Just off I-81 next to Caverns, if you like to see those. Mostly shaded. That's the good of it. Not much in area, sadly. This place is crowded, forget using an awning, and we could not get back slides all out with neighbors slides also being out. Old, not maintained, dirty, and just plain scary. We camped at Dixie Caverns Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Overnight is all I would recommend here.

This park is right off I-81, very convenient to the freeway. We spent a single night there, without unhitching our 38 foot RV. It is located in a little hollow, filled with hardwoods which must be very pretty in the summer and fall. Pluses: Friendly and helpful staff, long pull thru sites (ours was probably 80 feet long), great WiFi, good cable TV, 50A power. Minuses: very narrow sites (about five feet separated our slides from the neighbor's), freeway noise and a sea of mud created by the rain and melting snow. We camped at Dixie Caverns Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

For those of us pulling a long rig with a gasoline powered truck, finding a suitable gas station is a source of anxiety. As you get off I-81, continue past the park entrance a half mile, and you'll find a Citgo station on the left. Just swing in on the outside of the pumps (our F-250's gas cap is on the left) and drive out.

Nice quiet park. Everyone friendly. Good water and electric. Stopped to see the caves on our way north. Gravel sites but level. Some spots are tight but got thru ok. Lots of trees but have cable for tv. I would stay here again if in the area. We camped at Dixie Caverns Campground in a Motorhome.

Compared to some other parks a bit farther north on I-81 this was a bargain. Full hookups, strong WIFI, pull-through sites, lots of cable channels and a discount for the cavern tour convenient to the interstate are all a plus in our book. Some noise from the interstate until after dark and as others have mentioned the sites are a bit narrow but for an overnight stop we thought this was just fine. Very friendly, professional staff. We would make this a regular stop in the future. We camped at Dixie Caverns Campground in a Motorhome.

The sights are gravel and level. They are very narrow and short. The restrooms are clean and well maintained. The caverns are right there on the grounds and campers get a discount on the tour. Take the tour it is excellent. The only bad side is road noise from the nearby highway. We would camp here again. We camped at Dixie Caverns Campground in a Motorhome.

Bathrooms had good water pressure, but no dressing room in the showers. Also, no soap, towels or hand dryer in restroom. But nice antique shop, rock shop, and pottery shop next door. Caves have 347 steps, so we could not visit the caverns. We camped at Dixie Caverns Campground in a Motorhome.

First time staying here. Careful when pulling in off the highway as the CG has a stone sign in the center of their driveway. CG office is in the gift shop. Female staffer was friendly. They take credit cards. We had pull-through site 54. Nice long site but low in the rear. Not a problem if you are unhooking but we stayed hooked up. 50 amp power, water, and sewer were all fine. Site 54 also worked for my rooftop satellite dish so long as I was parked at the rear of the site. Site 53 would also work for rooftop satellite (again, stay to the rear of site). I'd stay here again for an overnight or if I was visiting the nearby Dixie Caverns. We camped at Dixie Caverns Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

This is an easy on and off interstate 81 near Roanoke, Virginia. We stayed here twice once in July for one night and then in August for 3 nights. The sites are pull-throughs and the power is sometime a little low. There are not a lot of choices in the area, and this one is acceptable. Staff was friendly. There are quite a few permanent residents. Interior roads are gravel and easy enough to maneuver with a big rig. Easy to get into Roanoke. Would stay here again if in the area. We camped at Dixie Caverns Campground in a Motorhome.

This CG has some potential! Looks like they only seem to cater to the Cave crowd. Sites are really tight-the guy next to us had to pull his awning in for us to get parked or we would have hit it. Unlevel gravel(not alot of gravel) sites. Site was pull through and very long (had car in tow to MH) but amenities are at the very end of site-so had to back up in order to use them.Stayed here overnight only. Needs alot of TLC before we would go back. Didn't bother with the Bath house either-one look and decided to use on board facilities. We camped at Dixie Caverns Campground in a Motorhome.

I'm sitting here on my shady site writing this review. We're staying 3 nights while attending a convention in Roanoke. Yes, I hear the highway noise but I also hear the many birds of the area and it is otherwise quiet and peaceful. Yes, the sites are smaller than we are used to, but the park isn't full so we have space on either side of us right now. Staff was very friendly and helpful at check-in. We are definitely used to more forest like camp sites, but with full hookups, very reasonable price, and proximity to Roanoke it can't be beat. We camped at Dixie Caverns Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed here for 2 weeks and I wish we had more time. The staff is friendly, sites relatively level, with the only complaint being that the sites are very close together. Outstanding Wi-Fi here and that's very important to me. Another small problem is the lack of access for a satellite antenna but they have good cable. Will definitely stay here again. We camped at Dixie Caverns Campground in a Fifth Wheel.
