Very nice location. Friendly staff who were very accommodating. The only improvement is that that there could be more toilets and showers for the size of the campground. Of course, I realize, that is easier said than done and very costly. During busy times, some waiting was required. Overall, a great campground and we will return. We camped at Staunton / Walnut Hills KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Very large park in hills. We were up on top with a great view of park, pond and surrounding hills. Had a back-in with wooden patio. They had a kids parade for Halloween and then kids came around and trick or treated for candy. It was great. Very spacious site where we were. Would definity come back again-Best KOA I have ever been in. We camped at Staunton / Walnut Hills KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Check out German restaurant about 3 miles from park. Misses Rowe's restaurant was great-good food, great pie and very reasonable prices.

This is an interesting KOA, and in many ways was the best we've ever visited. We can say with complete confidence that the site we had was the best we've ever had at a KOA. There are three sections in this campground, each very different. The first section is in a valley around their "lake" (really a shallow man-made pond), and has sites facing the water or the creek that runs into it. Our site was in this part of the campground. The site is huge for a KOA and is level with the water. The electrical box was pretty far away from our site. We had to extend our power cord its entire length. Most of the other lake sites have a steep hill between them and the water and are very close to the neighbors. The second loop at the campground is up the hill, and is in fairly thick woods. If you like more shade and some possible mountain views, that's the place to be, but we noticed that it can be quite claustrophobic when full (as it was on this particular weekend). The third section is made up of tent camping sites and rustic cabins, and felt VERY much like a state park. The facilities were convenient and, while the showers and toilet stalls were VERY small, they were reasonably clean. We would absolutely visit this KOA again if we're in the area, but would be very disappointed if we couldn't get site 35. We camped at Staunton / Walnut Hills KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

The campground is a few miles from I-81, so road noise isn't a problem, but it's only 10 minutes from a number of stores and only 15 minutes from downtown Staunton. We had a good dinner at Kathy's Restaurant, a local diner.

Very nice park with everything you would want in a campground. Very neat and clean with pretty views. The only challenge we had is that we wanted full hookups and they sent us up the hill, which, although was very nice, the road up to that point was a bit challenging for our 44 ft motorhome, although we did make it. We just needed to careful. If you are over 40 ft - especially if just for an overnight - stay near the entrance which, although they don't have sewer hooks ups, would be much easier to get to. We camped at Staunton / Walnut Hills KOA in a Motorhome.

Escorted to site. Staff very friendly and accommodating. Beautiful park. No road noise. Nice to see grounds maintained. Called on short notice and was given a site that was shady, big and very easy backing. WIFI and cable worked well. Will stay here next time in the area. The nicest KOA at which we have stayed. Was sad that we were only over-nighting. This is a large and spread-out campground with sites in front, in back near and on a pond, and up the hill in woods. Spotless grounds with lots of open grass near the pond. Far enough off I81 to eliminate highway noise. Hwy 340 is actually a good cut-off if you are going I81 to I64 or vice-versa. Their cable is recently-expanded and includes such staples as CNN and Fox News. We camped at Staunton / Walnut Hills KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

The campground is close to the Interstate but we never heard any highway noise. The layout is very unique and makes good use of the terrain. Our site was on the hill overlooking most of the campground and the lake. We had a spacious, level full hookup site. The ducks and occasional heron make one realize he/she is truly out in the country. The restrooms were immaculate and obviously cleaned frequently. The campstore appeared well-stocked. We would and will visit again. We camped at Staunton / Walnut Hills KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Staunton is near Lexington, VA - home of Washington & Lee University and Virginia Military Institute. Be sure to take a carriage ride around town. The Natural Bridge State Park is also nearby and is a great place to visit - once owned by Thomas Jefferson. Near the State Park is an animal park where you can either drive through or take a wagon ride. Stop at the Visitors Center in Staunton for information on historical sites.

This is a beautiful campground spread around a lake. Moving around the campground appears challenging at first. Once we checked in we had to drive around the park back to the entrance and then enter the non-sewer area we had reserved. The following morning, as there was no right turn to the exit from our site, we had to drive around the campground again to exit. We were in a non-sewer, pull-thru site. Other areas of the campground were more wooded, but all seemed quite nice. We camped at Staunton / Walnut Hills KOA in a Motorhome.

Almost can't say enough good things about this KOA. Very scenic - a pretty lake with ducks, a stream running through the tent campsites, rolling hills, and the RV sites are well separated and kept very clean. Bathhouse/laundry room was air conditioned and clean. Our lot was the overlook, which had a beautiful view, up on a hill with the view of the park and mountains beyond. The staff was very nice and friendly. Where many parks offer extra things you can do, but they charge for them, this park loans you horseshoes, etc., for what you want to do. Garbage is picked up at your site every morning if you put it out. There is a lot to see in the area - especially beautiful were the beautiful acres of manicured farms that line the road in to the KOA. We will definitely be back! We camped at Staunton / Walnut Hills KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

This KOA Campground is one of the most scenic and diverse we've attended. Walnut Hills includes rolling grassing hills, active fresh water streams, fishing pond and magnificent ambience. Trees are abundant, along with bushes and flowers all extremely well maintained. The Staff is particularly accommodating and responsive. Bathrooms were clean and showers quite good. We consider this an outstanding campground and will return on a regular basis. We camped at Staunton / Walnut Hills KOA in a Motorhome.

Staunton is a cool historic city but not particularly easy to navigate in our 27' MH. Skyline and Blue Ridge Parkway are just a few miles away and definitely worth the visit.

Clean level site with FHU on the lake. Good WIFI, limited cable. One of the best in the area. The drive around the lake upon entering is a nice view. Just far enough off I-81 that there is no traffic noise. Thses folks take pride in the grounds and buildings. We camped at Staunton / Walnut Hills KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed in a long level gravel pull thru in the water and electric section near the front of the park. We used the dump station before leaving. This area has satellite reception and was very quiet, owing to its rural location. The pool was very refreshing on a couple of hot, humid days. The park was very clean and neat, shows lots pride of ownership. We camped at Staunton / Walnut Hills KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed here to visit Shenandoah Valley National Park, Monticello, and the Woodrow Wilson home. Monticello was excellent, with lots of info on our third president and lunch at Michie Tavern in Charlottesville was a real treat.

We had a mostly level pull-through site that was long enough for our 40 ft motorhome and toad. Trees blocked our satellite dish but there was good cable TV. Good Verizon signal. Interior roads were a little curvy and narrow but mostly in good condition. Friendly and helpful staff. Park is clean and very well maintained.
